Rumor: Treasure, the developer behind Gunstar Heroes, is done making new games
For years, Treasure has been consistent in developing high-quality games that were given universal acclaim. Treasure first made its mark with Gunstar Heroes, which debuted on the SEGA Genesis/ Mega Drive to high praise. Following that release, Treasure churned out a number of classics, including Alien Soldier, Guardian Heroes, Bangai-O, Ikaruga, and Wario World.
According to a recent podcast on Giant Bomb, there are rumors that Treasure might be shifting from a developer to a license holding company. Treasure has not released anything new since 2009, so it may have been inevitable for the company to go in this direction.

no mention of Radiant Silvergun?!
I was too busy crying into the keyboard
this is truly horrible news. Hope it is just a rumour and nothing more comes of it.
What are these rumors based on? Do I have to listen to the podcast to find out? Certainly they’ve been quiet, and many of the key staff involved with those old favorites are no longer with the company, so it’s easy to just assume it and it’s been that way for some time. But on the other hand, they did have the experience of putting Ikaruga on Steam relatively recently, and they sponsored an event in December (Transition 2015) to promote the STG genre on Steam to Japanese gamers, which suggests to me that they plan to continue to support it.
I like to think they’re quietly working away on something still, while raising funds between for-hire work that we’re not hearing about.
License holding? What IPs do they even own?
