No Gunstar Heroes online fix due to low sales?

9:45am 4 Jul '09

When Playstation 3 owners purchased Gunstar Heroes, most of them wanted to fire the game online to play, but couldn’t due to the game being broken. Most fans decided to put in a help ticket at Sega, to let them know that the game’s online mode didn’t work and if there was going to be a fix.

A user over at Playstation boards claims that he got the following response from Sega:

“We have confirmed this issue as having to do with the players having different internet connection speeds and types. We have also found that it does not occur %100 and that at worst you should be able to connect ~%30 of time.

We are looking into options to resolve this but so far have not come up with anything that would be cost effective relative to the game’s disappointing sales. I’ll let you know if there are any further updates.”

There you go, there is no plans (”looking into” sounds like no plans at least) on fixing a game that should have worked to begin with, due to low sales. This is Sega’s way of thanking the few people that bought the game (if the response is legit).

Rumor: Aliens: Colonial Marines might still be in development

Alien Colonial Marines Screen

A while back we found out that Gearbox Software was going through a rough time, letting go a bunch (ok, more like 15ish… rough number!) of employees. Right when this happened it was said that the Alien shooter was ‘indefinitely suspended.

It seems that the project might still be on, Gearbox just put up a new hiring page and if you notice it says they are hiring for ‘all projects.’ If you go check their development list of games, guess what game is listed? Aliens: Colonial Marines. The page was updated on April 13th, so it isn’t like they just forgot to take it down.

So now we will see if Sega will show off this game at E3 or not, I guess we will find out later this upcoming June.

Aliens: Colonial Marines guide may hit game mag next month

The last time we heard about Aliens: Colonial Marines, Sega had delayed it until next year and was possibly reviewing whether they’d even release the game altogether. However, according to UK cheats magazine Powerstation, the game may actually hit store shelves after all.

In its March issue, the magazine teased that it will have a guide for Colonial Marines in its April issue. And before you scream “April Fools!?!?,” our tipster who’s a longtime Powerstation subscriber, says the magazine has never published an April Fools joke before.

While this might just be a misprint or even a first-time joke, we won’t know for sure until we hear back from the Powerstation staff or until the magazine hits newsstands April 23.

[Thanks for the tip, Casanova!]

Rumor: Phantasy Star II coming to XBLA?

9:56pm 28 Feb '09

The website GamersReport got a strange email, someone reported that Phantasy Star II was coming to Xbox Live Arcade and provided these screen captures as prove it. I guess this can go with our Sonic 3 and Gunstar Heroes coming to XBLA rumors. Find it odd that anyone would pay $5 only for Phantasy Star II, when they can get all four of the Phantasy Star games and 40 plus more games for $29.99.

I have to question these images, if you see the title screen above, you will notice that it says ‘XBOX 360′ with the date and time right next to it. I only have one Vintage Collection game (Streets of Rage II) and that game doesn’t have that.

What do you guys think?

Rumor: Sega to release “Fun Packs”

3:24pm 21 Feb '09

Some Amazon listings suggest that Sega will be releasing a set of “Fun Packs” this upcoming March. Users be warned, there is no fun to be had with Shadow the Hedgehog!

The listed games are as follows:

This reminds me of what Sega did last gen with its double pack of Sonic Mega Collection and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (Super Monkey Ball already being a double pack!).

As you can see there was no listings for a “Fun Pack” on Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. If you guys had to choose two titles to be in the fun pack on those platforms, what would they be? Obviously it can’t be Sonic the Hedeghog 2006.

Rumor: Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics to be revealed soon

Spanish Nintendo magazine “Nintendo Acción” (Nintendo Action) has said they will reveal a new game in the next issue. The picture that was given as the hint is the one above. They say, in the scan, that the game will be two great figures coming together once more.

The obvious? Sonic and Mario. So we solved the mystery, do we get prize bubbles now?

Hit the jump for the scan.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s QJ might be the sequel to Rez

According to the EGM rumor mill section, Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s upcoming Wii exclusive game called QJ (working title) might be the spiritual successor of Rez.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi left Sega after they merged with Sammy, after he went solo he had massive success with his Lumines game and all the expansions for it.  After he announced Rez HD for Xbox Live, we all thought that Mizuguchi and Sega might have patched up their broken relationship.

Seems like we are all wrong, since QJ and the upcoming bundle called Q3 are both going to be published by Atari.

Rumor: Sega making a new Outrun with THQ?

10:22pm 17 Nov '08

Australia’s Office of Film & Literature Classification board has issued ratings for Outrun Online. The title was listed as a multi-platform release.

That isn’t the shocking part, it seems they have Sega listed as publisher and THQ as the author and producer. Maybe Sega is letting THQ use some of their old IPs?

I hope not. This isn’t the first time THQ has made and published some old Sega IPs, they have released several on the Gameboy Advance, like Crazy Taxi.

[Update] Rumor: Sega to publish The Conduit?

If you’ve never heard of The Conduit, its an FPS game for the Wii. It even looks rather good, something that is becoming rare on the console. There has been a lot of speculation as to who will be the publisher of the title, with (apparently) many publishers expressing their interest in the title.

High Voltage Software was meant to announce the publisher of the game during this years Nintendo’s Fall Media Summit, but due to legal/technical reasons could not. Well (I think you all know where I am going with this), some people saw a folder on Sega of America’s FTP called ‘The Conduit‘, that was removed rather quickly.

Sega has yet to respond to this news and no one got a screen capture. So this is a rumor, for the time being.

[Update:] One of the guys from Neo Gaf managed to get some screen dumps before it went down.

Conduit The Conduit

There is always a chance that it is a photoshop job - but it’s a bit of a weird thing to lie about. But we will still take it as a rumour until Sega announces otherwise.

According to a listing on Amazon and Gamefly,  Sega is planning to release a new Sonic Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

According to the sites, the game will hit the streets Feburary 2009. I’m sure most of you are dying to own more copies of old Sonic games. Maybe Sega will answer fan demand and make them HD versions, that would be nice.
