Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles released for Dreamcast

This kind of crept up on us, Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles, a new Dreamcast title developed by Yuan Works and published by redspotgames, has been released.
I’m a bit confused on the dates, as Play-Asia says it was released yesterday (Nov. 10th), Yuan Works says on November 1st and redspotgames is saying November 5th. But whatever the case, the game is out now!
For those that don’t know, Wind and Wateris a puzzle game that was first released on the GP2X, but now it has (finally) arrived on our beloved Dreamcast console with plenty of added extras - as the website mentions:
[Update] Win a Dreamcast bundle (but not with us)
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Retro. Tagged with Centipede, Contest, Crazy Taxi, Dreamcast, Kiss: Psycho Circus, Recycled Gaming, Soul Calibur.

Unfortunately we are not having a contest to win a Dreamcast bundle (though the idea has certainly come up a few times), but the retro-website Recycled Gaming is holding a Dreamcast contest. Full details on how to enter are yet to be announced, but the prize has been revealed, and it is a pretty good one.
Participants will be in with a chance of winning a pretty decent Dreamcast bundle featuring:
- Dreamcast console (with cables - handy)
- Two Sega Dreamcast controllers
- One official VMU
- Four games: Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Centipede and Kiss: Psycho Circus
- Official Dreamcast carry case (not in picture)
I’d say that is a pretty cool prize for any Sega Nerd. Especially if you haven’t got a Dreamcast yet - it is a very good starting point. Plus, you know, it’s free.
[Update:] The contest has now started folks, all you need do is answer five questions - all of which should be very easy for any true Sega Nerd ;o) So check it out, and good luck!
Be sure to check back at Recycled Gaming over the next couple of days, when the full contest details should be announced.

Dr. Robotnik still plays his Dreamcast

Do you see it? It’s the Dreamcast, and it’s a good sign that Sonic Team hasn’t forgotten the white machine. We haven’t either!
The screen is from the upcoming Sonic Unleashed, and I have to say it’s looking better and better.

New portable Dreamcast the DreamTrooper
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Retro, Sonic, Video. Tagged with Dreamcast, DreamTrooper, Fan Stuff, Portable, Sonic Adventure 2.
A guy called Hailrazer, over at the Benheck forums, has constructed a pretty cool handheld Dreamcast. There are a few fan-made portable Dreamcasts knocking around these days, but it is always a joy to see new ones coming around.
Halrazer’s Dreamcast, called the DreamTrooper, as the casing resembles a Storm Trooper’s helmet from Star Wars, is certainly one of the better made portable Dreamcasts.
The device was cobbled together using the shell of something called a “Lazer Doodle” (no idea what that is, I guess it’s an American toy), the LCD screen off a PS1 portable, a Quantum Fighter pad for the controls and some expensive rechargeable batteries.
The DreamTrooper is not 100% complete just yet, but it is in full working order and appears to have built-in memory. On the Benheck forums, before he made the device, he mentions the idea of an in-built VMU, but the video doesn’t specify if he has, or where it is. But when he loads Sonic Adventure 2, it looks like he has a few saved files there already.
Review: Samba De Amigo
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Nintendo Wii, Review. Tagged with Dreamcast, Gearbox, Samba De Amigo.

Despite receiving a generally good reception on the Dreamcast from magazines, websites and the gaming community, Samba De Amigo perhaps didn’t sell quite as well as Sega (and all Sega Nerds) had hoped for.
However, Sega has seen some light and decided to release an updated version of the Dreamcast classic on the Wii. But, is this new version as equally fun as the original game? Or has Sega made a cock-up trying to release it on the Wii?Â
Samba De Amigo now in stores
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo Wii, North America, Retro. Tagged with Dreamcast, Gearbox, Samba De Amigo.
Yes, it’s Friday the 26th of September, and Samba De Amigo has now been released in stores across Europe, which means that the game is now available in the United States as well. I also thought it was out in Japan today too, but looking at Play Asia, they only have the U.S. version listed…. Oh well.
So, what does this mean? It means that you should all go out and buy a copy!
It is your duty as a Sega Nerd to make sure that a fun, unique game gets a fair go. Yeah, it may not he quite the same appeal as the Dreamcast original, with the cool maracas to swing about, but seeing as not enough people bought the original, we are lucky that Sega is giving us a second chance.
So we should go and buy the Wii version, grab some friends, start shaking our asses to some funky beats, get a little sweaty, take a group shower and then all go and play some Samba!!
Check after the break for some half decent deals and where to buy Samba De Amigo for the Wii or Dreamcast.
Peter Moore pulled the plug on the Dreamcast
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Interviews, News, Retro. Tagged with Dreamcast.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Peter Moore talks about his career/life - including his days at Sega with the Dreamcast. Not all of his inerview will be published in Eqsuire, so the interviewer (Keith Stuart) is going to kindly post some of the interesting segments not included, over the next few days, and it turns out that it is pretty interesting.
Possibly the most interesting thing said in the interview is that it was Peter Moore’s decision to stop production of the Dreamcast.
“But then we had a target from Japan that said – and I can’t remember the exact figures – but we had to make N hundreds of millions of dollars by the holiday season and shift N millions of units of hardware, otherwise we just couldn’t sustain the business.
So on January 31 2001 we said Sega is leaving hardware – somehow I got to make that call, not the Japanese. I had to fire a lot of people, it was not a pleasant day. “

Bargain of the month - 40 Dreamcast games for $75
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, North America, Retro. Tagged with Dreamcast, Game Deals.

I’m always seeing some fairly good deals online for old Sega bits and pieces, but this is possibly one of the best value bundles I have seen in a while.
40 Dreamcast (NTSC) games for only $75, and the good news is that it’s not on eBay or another auction site - so the price won’t be going up!
The deal is up on UsedVictoria.com - to be honest I have never heard of the site, so I’m not entirely sure of how good/reliable they are, but it’s certainly worth a look.
Check after the break for the full list of games on offer.
New Samba trailers, Ulala action and maraca information

Sega Europe has released a couple of new Samba trailers online. The first is “Gameplay Trailer #2″ and shows some more in-game footage - including a Space Channel 5 level, with Ulala and Amigo shaking their funky stuff in space (well on a space station… in space).
Check after the break for the other new trailer, and more information.
