Sonic 3 & Knuckles (1994)
Sonic is not only the face of Sega, but his games helped shape and define the entire generation of gaming from the time of Genesis to Super Nintendo. His iconic music and design were known globally – real hit for Sega.
This game, in particular, is quite an art piece. It brought console gaming to a whole other level during its time with the impressive use of technology and groundbreaking options. Players could combine Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic 2 with Sonic Knuckles, allowing both characters to play in each other’s games, this alone amazed gamers at the time.

Ecco the Dolphin
One of the more unusual games to be released from the era, the story follows an aquatic mammal called Ecco who gets separated from his pod of dolphins during a big storm. Ecco is forced into a long journey of adventure to discover the lost city of Atlantis.
Although it has a strange story, the game was so popular at the time that many sequels were produced in response, but none made it as far as Ecco the Dolphin.
Street Fighter 2
Still referenced to this day, this 2D fighting game helped Genesis beat Super Nintendo as it captured the picture and sound far better than Nintendo. There are various versions of this game, including one that was released recently in 2017. But one thing is for sure, the consoles will never beat the arcade game, but Genesis sure makes a reasonable effort.
Earthworm Jim
This game was created to simply poke fun at the other cliche games that were on the market at the time, it managed to catch on and became extremely popular during the ’90s. It worked its way onto Super Nintendo and PC and even got an HD remake in 2009.
A massive success for the Sega Genesis and the Sega corporation in general EarthWorm Jim really manages to worm it’s way to victory in the industry.

This overall funky game has a terrific soundtrack to match and was known as a Genesis exclusive. Another hit for the Sega enterprise much to the surprise of others.
Gain Ground
Another original from the time of arcades that managed to work its way onto consoles was Gain Ground. Many found this game addictive and found it provided endless hours of fun.
