Sega has finally brought Valkyria Chronicles to the west, six months after the Japanese release and following much positive feedback from the gaming community. Now that the game is here, was it worth the wait?
Valkyria Chronicles is getting animated
Posted by George. Filed under George, Japan, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Anime, Valkyria Chronicles.

Sega has decided to give Valkyria Chronicles a televised anime adaptation in Japan. The anime will be done by by A-1 pictures, a studio funded by Sony.
The studio is known for their work on Persona Trinity Soul and Birdy Decode. The anime will be released in Spring of 2009, about a year after the game originally came out.
Now will this anime get a western release? I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Downloadable content coming to Western Valkyria owners
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Download Content, Valkyria Chronicles.

It was pretty inevitable really, but now it has been officially confirmed. The download content for Valkyria Chronicles, which was made available to Japan a while ago now, is set to come to the West. The game’s American producer, Christopher Kaminski, has confirmed that the content will also be coming to North America and Europe.
The download content comes in the form of the “Extra Hard” Skirmish mode and an ‘extra mission.’ While that might not sound too exciting for some of you, I am assuming that the downloads are the same as the Japanese version of the game, and the ‘extra mission’ is in fact an additional episode - focusing on Edie, (a support character from the main story mode), complete with full vocal work, story elements, and skirmishes.
Unfortunately no date or pricing has been announced, other than ‘early 2009.’ So it seems we will have to wait a few months - and who knows, by then I might have actually bothered to buy a PS3 ;o).
And if you are holding off buying Valkyria, (for whatever reason) then stayed tuned, as we shall have our own review up fairly soon.

Valkyria Chronicles ships to retailers in North America

We’ve got some good news, and for some of you we’ve got some bad news. Want the good news first, right? Okay. Sega has announced that Valkyria Chronicles, arguably the company’s most-anticipated RPG in like forever, has now shipped to retailers across North America.
That means all of you need to go out first thing and buy up all the copies you can.
Now time for the bad news. Sega won’t throw in a free copy of the Valkyria Chronicles yaoi manga with your purchase of the game. However, Graham is still holding out hope that a translated version will hit soon!
Valkyria Chronicles gets a yaoi manga

I’ll be totally honest, I didn’t know what yaoi was for the longest time. But one day I was clicking random links and I found out the hard way. Yaoi mangas usually deal stories involving homosexual relationships, some include explicit images. [more info]
Sega’s upcoming SRPG, Valkyria Chronicles will have a yaoi manga adaption very soon. The story for the manga involves a experienced sniper named Julius Klose and a shy boy engineer named Mintz. How very romantic.

Valkyria Chronicles: Welkin trailer
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Sony PlayStation 3, Video. Tagged with Gameplay, Trailer, Valkyria Chronicles, Welkin Gunther.
With the game’s launch in just a few weeks, Sega has sent out another little trailer to remind us that Valkyria Chronicles is still on its way.
This is another “cast trailer” which shows off a member of Squad 7, this time its leader and tank commander (not to mention the game’s main character), Welkin Gunther.
I think the trailer is a little cheesy, but it does show some fairly good gameplay from the game - like the tank’s ability to break through walls.

Valkyria Chronicles European demo now available
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Valkyria Chronicles.

The European demo for Valkyria Chronicles is now available for download from the Playstation Network. The game is due for release in Europe on October 31st.
We reported a few days ago how the demo would be heading to the US, but unfortunately gamers will have to pay for the privilege, as it comes “free” with the PSN’s online gaming magazine, Qore. So you will either need to be a subscriber, or pay a one-off fee to download the demo magazine.
So, you American chappies can either wait, and pay to try the game. Or you could try to setup a seperate European account on your PS3, so you can download the demo that way - at least I’m told that is doable.
The full press release is after the break.
Meet Valkyria Chronicles’s Alicia; U.S. Demo Details Announced

GameTrailers has a video introducing us to Alicia Melchiott, the scout class of Valkyria Chronicles and Squad 7’s second-in-command. What an adorably anime sweetheart! Anime anime anime anime anime anime anime anime anime.
Seriously though, this game is going to be great, and we finally have details regarding a demo for us North Americans itching to try it out. Unfortunately, the news isn’t so great. According to PlayStation.blog, the demo will be exclusively available in the upcoming issue of Qore, Sony’s digital online magazine thingamajigger for PlayStation Network. This means that the demo costs $2.99 for those of us that aren’t subscribed to Qore (an annual, 13-episode Qore subscription costs $24.99). Say it with me now: LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.
This month’s issue of Qore will be available this Thursday in the weekly PSN update. Valkyria Chronicles is set for a November 11, 2008 release in North America.

Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Release Date, Valkyria Chronicles.

According to Eurogamer the upcoming PS3 exclusive, Valkyria Chronicles, has had its release date pushed forward by two weeks. Rather than being released on the original November 14th date, Sega will be releasing it on October 31st in Europe. Which is good news.
Also, don’t forget that there is a European demo due for release in a few days. Still no word on the release date of the US version, or any news on the demo.
