Infinite Space has a big drop in the sales charts

We reported that Platinum Games and Nude Maker’s Infinite Space was number one in the Japanese charts last week. It sold most of its first shipment, since Sega only bothered to ship 46,000 units.
This week the game had a massive drop in the charts, went from number 1 to number 18. This could have to do with the fact that most shops are sold out, since Sega thinks its a great business plan not to restock or maybe Sega did restock and the game just didn’t have legs.
I hear there is a ton of issues with used games in Japan effecting the sales of games, that is why most games now offer free DLC weeks after the games are released. One of the first games to show this trend was Yakuza 3.
Infinite Space highest charting game for the week in Japan

Sega should have a big smile on their face right now, Infinite Space is the first Platinum Games …. game to be released in Japan and it seems to be a hit. It sold 38,000 units for the week, though the game only had 2 days to sell. It will be interesting to see what it sells next week.
We told you guys a few days ago that Infinite Space’s first day sales where around 30,000 units, so it seems that the second day it only sold around 8,000 units. I hope it stays on the chart, but I doubt it will stay in first place next week.

When Platinum Games and Sega’s partnership was announced, they said they where working on four titles. The big hyped ones where MadWorld and Bayonetta, but between those was Infinite Space, co-developed by Platinum games and Nude Maker for the Nintendo DS.
The game sold around 30,000 copies, obviously that is not the exact amount, but a rough figure. Sega apparently shipped 46,000 copies to Japanese retailers. This would mean that the game sold roughly 65% of its first shipment.
Given that the game didn’t have much hype, that is fairly decent. We will have to see if it keeps on selling and hopefully is profitable for Sega in the long run.

1Up awards Bayonetta ‘Best Action Game’ of E3
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, Multi-platform, News, North America. Tagged with Awards, Bayonetta, Best Action Game, E3 2009, Platinum Games.

The guys at 1Up.com have voted Bayonetta as the ‘Best Action Game’ of this year’s E3. While the 1Up awards may not be proper gaming accolades, it is always great to see a Sega receive some love like this.
The most impressive thing about Bayonetta getting this reward is when you take a look at the other finalists that it was up against. Bayonetta managed to impress the 1Up guys more than these heavy hitters; Splinter Cell Conviction, Assassin’s Creed 2, Uncharted II and God of War III.
Here’s what they had to say on the matter:
You might be surprised to see us pick Bayonetta as the best action title at E3 — especially with God of War 3 playable for the first time — but trust us, once you get your hands on the controller you’ll recognize why director Hideki Kamiya (of Devil May Cry fame) is the master of action games; it’s incredible. Also, there’s nothing quite like a sexy woman kicking some ass; and Bayonetta delivers on this in spades. The flashy move set is both beautiful to watch and a joy to execute, and the controls are easy to pick up — the sheer amount of combo options makes it so there is never a dull moment.
Sounds like the game is going to be quite the treat for action fans. What do you guys think?

That Bayonetta model in action at E3

~Couldn’t get the sodding video to stop auto-playing, so click on the above image to view the real Bayonetta in motion~
Still can’t get enough of the real life Bayonetta? Well neither can we - or various other sites it seems, including USA Today.
USA Today has managed to score… (tempted to end the sentence right there, but I won’t). USA Today has managed to score an interview with Penny Drake, the lovely model who has been portraying Bayonetta at this years E3 show.
Turns out that she’s not actually English, but can, apparently, put on an English accent. I say “apparently” because she sounds more Australian at the end of the video. But what the hell, she still looks fantastic and very sexy. Hmm I wonder if she’s available for birthday parties…
And if you want to see of the hopefuls who auditioned for this part, then check out this video here.

G4TV gets hands-on with Bayonetta

With all the E3 shennanigans happening, G4TV was able to get the “World Exclusive Premiere” hands-on look at Platinum Games’ Bayonetta.
In essence it is an interview with one of the Sega reps, while an attractive girl plays the game behind them (with plenty of close ups of the on-screen action). For the interview itself, I think we already know most of what is spoken about.
But the video does give us a decent look at how the game plays, showing one of the levels and one of the mini-boss fights. And it’s looking pretty damn sexy.

Sega has just released the latest trailer for Platinum Games witchy title, Bayonetta, and all I can say is “Wow.” Quite frankly this is one of the best trailers for a game I have seen in ages.
The exciting video shows off a lot of gameplay and gives us more insight into the game’s story. Well check it out for yourselves!

Aliens vs Predator joins Sega’s E3 line-up

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Sega had revealed several games that they were going to be showing off at this years E3 event in Los Angeles. The original announcement came after Sega America posted a list of games via their Twitter feed.
Well Sega America has now doubly confirmed their original list, while also adding that one more title, Aliens vs Predator, will be previewed at the show.
The list of confirmed games are:
- Aliens vs Predator
- Alpha Protocol
- Bayonetta
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
- Planet 51
- The Conduit
- Vancouver 2010
However there could always be a few more surprise games that Sega might pull out of the bag. I wonder if Sega will decide to drop a bomb shell, now that E3 has reverted back to a ‘big’ event… but hopefully there’ll be nothing to do with Black Knights or Werehogs ;o)
For more information on the confirmed games, see after the break for the press release.
Sega’s spring press conference in full
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Japan, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Sony PlayStation 3, Video. Tagged with Bayonetta, End of Eternity, Platinum Games, Press Conference, Puyo Puyo, Trailers, Tri-Ace.
Sega Japan held their Spring press conference a few weeks ago, at the UDX theatre in Akihabara, where they recorded the entire event and have now uploaded it to Youtube for the world to enjoy.
The press event featured three big upcoming Sega Japan-published titles, Puyo Puyo 7, Bayonetta and End of Eternity. As we were covering the news as it broke at the time, you will have seen most of the screens and videos shown at the event. But it is always quite interesting to see how a Sega press event is held and it might enlighten some you to watch this.
The only problem is that it’s all in Japanese (with the exception of the Bayonetta trailer), so if you can understand Japanese you will probably get more out of it than the rest of us - but at least we get to look at the pretty pictures still.
Also how come Sega Japan can upload a 27 minute video on Youtube? When I try to upload anything over 9 mins 59 secs, they tell me off!

Platinum Games shows us how they made the perfect witch
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Japan, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Bayonetta, Modelling, Platinum Games, Sexy Lady Parts.

Kenichiro “Yoshi” Yoshimura, the modeller for Bayonetta, has posted up some information on how Platinum Games went about creating the design and look of their heroine for their upcoming action title.
The post on the Platinum Games’ official site shows some of the early shots of Bayonetta herself, as they were going through her ‘building’ process.
Some of the talk is just game development stuff (boring if you aren’t into it), but the man clearly does have a passion for the character he is creating:
Bayonetta’s face: She is really attractive, yet dangerous, so I wanted to get that across without over-doing it. She is beautiful, but she can’t be pandering. Those sorts of things are really hard to pull off, let me tell you. So I would draw some sketches as I worked and eventually arrived at a final design as I was modeling.
But he does also admit that he needed some help in giving Bayonetta that feminine look:
Since Bayonetta is obviously a woman, I made sure to consult with another woman, Mari Shimazaki, about how her makeup should look. As a guy, I haven’t the slightest idea where to even begin with something like that.
Well if you want to see some more alluring screenshots and read up on the process of making your very own computer generated lady, then head on over to Platinum Games’ website.
