Innex bringing updated Sega Nomad-style handheld

Hardware distributor Innex Inc. is set to release an updated version of the Sega Nomad with the “Retro Gen.” It doesn’t use the Nomad name and it doesn’t look the same, but it is officially licensed by Sega and unlike other portable Mega Drives this one will take original Mega Drive titles.
But best of all Innex is promising a special download service, also officially licensed by Sega, that will allow gamers to download classic Mega Drive/Genesis titles but also brand new licensed Mega Drive games - with their “Fire Box” technology. Now that does sound awesome.

Sunday Night Question: What do you think Sega will show at E3?
Posted by George. Filed under George, Multi-platform, North America. Tagged with E3, Sunday Night Question, What do you want?.

Since E3 is next month, what do you think Sega will show at the expo?
I think they will have the 2009 release titles and a few surprises. Maybe a Sega Studios San Francisco title. I do hope they show any of the Alien games in some form or another.
Sega and THQ end joint trade event

MCV reports that Sega and THQ’s annual “Business Partners Summit” has been call off after two successful years. Both parties decided to retire the event as it is no longer deemed necessary, and Sega Europe is intending to showcase their 2009 products at this years E3.
“Sega Europe will now be supporting the revised E3 event in LA. Sega encourages all of its customers and media partners to support the E3 event in June via their attendance.” Mike Hayes, president and COO of Sega Europe told MCV.
“As ever, Sega will also support local European territory events which will include IDEF and the Cologne Convention. There is a consensus between both companies that the Business Partners Summit is now no longer required.”
While only lasting two years, the summit has played a key role for retail and distribution, with over 400 trade delegates coming to the 2008 show from all across Europe, Africa and even Australia. The show was initially setup in 2007 when retail distributers questioned the role and time efficiency of single-publisher events.

E3 had “atmosphere of a large hospital corridor” - but Sega still backs events
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Interviews, News, North America. Tagged with E3, Simon Jeffery.
Just the other day, we reported on how several top game developing companies, including Sega, spoke of their disappointment at this years E3, and that something had to be done.
Speaking with MCV, Simon Jeffery (yep that guy again!) wanted to clarify his views on the matter:
“E3 was a strange beast this year. We had an extremely strong product showing, had some great meetings, and got our messaging over pretty strongly - all at an event that had all the atmosphere of a large hospital corridor.”
But Simon also assures the gaming world that Sega would still back the annual event. However, it is clear that something does need to change:
EA, Ubisoft and Sega: E3 not as good as it used to be
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News. Tagged with E3.

Reading several forums (including ours) all I read were complaints about how poor the announcements and games line-ups were for this years E3. About the biggest shock news was possibly Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox 360, but even that didn’t seem to cause a massive stir in the waters of the gaming public.
And, it seems that it wasn’t just the gamers that were disappointed with E3 this year, some of the actual developers aren’t too happy either.

E3 2008: Stormrise new screens and artwork

There doesn’t seem to be any new information, since the game’s impressive announcement video last week.
But Sega has kindly graced us with some new screenshots and a couple of artwork images. Which is nice.
Check it all out after the break.

Key-carrying action!
A video (presumably from E3 has surfaced on Youtube detailing a few of the other speed style levels from Sonic Unleashed as well as finally revealing some footage of the much hushed-up Were Sonic segments.
They look like standard brawler fare, but don’t take my word for it! Check it out for yourselves!
More Shenmue III rumours emerging, must be close to E3 again!
Posted by Graham. Filed under G. Tagged with Dreamcast, E3, Exhibition, Rumour, Shenmue III.

It seems that just before a major gaming expo, rumours of some of Sega’s classic great roll out from forums and sites. You get the odd, “Skies of Arcadia 2“, maybe a little “NiGHTS coming to 360/PS3″ - but always you hear “Shenmue III going to be announced at this years *insert reputable exhibition here*”
Well this summer is no different. We are about 2 months away from E3 2008 and, low and behold, rumours of Shenmue III are springing up once again! As Play.tm report;
Virtua Fighter 5 gets Game Critics Award
Posted by George. Filed under Uncategorized. Tagged with Awards, E3, Universe at War, Virtua Fighter 5.

Game Critics Award has been giving out awards since 1998. Yep, back in the day when us Sega Nerds were importing games on our Sega Saturn and swearing Dreamcast would be the next sure thing.
I’m sorta surprised that Virtua Fighter 5 got best fighting game, since its just a port. I would like to say, before we get all the Nintendo fans saying that Super Smash Bros deserved the award. Super Smash bros was not nominated. The game only had to face off against Smack Down! vs Raw 2008 and the 30th Naruto game announced this year.
The only other game that was nominated was Universe at War: Earth Assault, who lost against World in Conflict. Whats up with this similar sounding names?
