SEGA Nerdcast: Episode 25

Thanks to SEGA Nerds’ reader Icedus, we have a new theme song this week! We also have a ton of great news to talk about for once!

– We go in depth to talk about the Sonic Boom cartoon announcement and ponder what actors could be cast in a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
– Steven gives his opinion on Sonic joining the Super Smash Bros. 4 cast and his hopes for Sonic’s increased attack power.
– We’re a bit late, but we discuss the recent news that Yakuza 5 won’t be coming to the West. *sad face*
– We also watch that creepy Japanese guy who used an Oculus Rift to sleep with Hatsune Miku.
– Lastly, we issue a challenge to the SEGA Nerds community to create a YouTube thumbnail for our Horror Fest video series. If we end up using your entry, you’ll win a complete copy of Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the Genesis! Also, everyone who enters gets a SEGA Nerds pin. More details here.

  1. I’m flattered! And also relieved this happened instead of me being Super Banned.

(I’m also crossing my fingers for being able to land any killing blows at all as Sonic this time.)

  2. Hooray! I am finally caught up on your podcasts!

I think Joe Musashi and Ulala would make good additions to Smash Bros… and of course Alex Kidd, too.

I would personally rather see Sega do something more like a follow-up to Fighters Megamix, but with tag-in mechanics and including the following, very unrealistic fanboy wishlist for characters:

    Lau (VF)
    Sarah (VF)
    Akira (VF)
    Candy (Fighting Vipers)
    Bahn (Fighting Vipers)
    Ryo (Shenmue)
    Lan Di (Shenmue)
    Kiryu (Yakuza)
    Axel (Streets of Rage)
    Blaze Fielding (Streets of Rage)
    Joe Musashi (Shinobi)
    Tyris Flare (Golden Axe)
    Gilius Thunderhead (Golden Axe)
    Bruno (Dynamite Cop)
    Bayonetta
    Sonic
    Knuckles
    Dr. Robotnik
    Alex Kidd
    Larsen (Eternal Champions)
    Xavier (Eternal Champions)
    Ulala
    NiGHTS
Ecco (This could somehow be done, I’m sure)
    Beat (Jet Set Radio)
    Alis (Phantasy Star)
    Nei (Phantasy Star 2)
Toejam and Earl (played as 1 wacky character)
    Vectorman
The Daytona Car (or substitute a Crazy Taxi if there is a licensing issue)
*and Insert a Persona character here*

… and of course tons of crazy support characters like those in the Marvel vs. Capcom games and a Metal Sonic/Dural final double-boss!

Make it happen, Sega! (I know very well that this will never happen…)

    1. A Fighters Megamix 2 is essentially what I was thinking, but I love the idea of a tag feature within fights. It probably wouldn’t cost too much to develop either, especially if it used the latest Virtua Fighter engine.

I like your list of characters, but I’d love to see more Atlus characters, like Kei Sagami (Maken X) and she’d have the Maken sword with her.

      1. More Atlus characters would be great, but I just don’t know their franchises as well. I did play Maken X and more recently, Catherine. Both are fine games and I’d be cool with seeing Sega wrap them up into their larger franchise collective.

I did realize that I forgot to add a very important character to my already unreasonable wish-list: G from the House of the Dead!
