Seaman creator to make spinoff for iPhone

It seems the creator of the cult Dreamcast classic (and a game I am yet to play), Seaman and (for the PS2) Seaman 2, Yoot Saito is creating a quasi-spinoff of the series on the iPhone, entitled Gabo.

Not many details have come out yet, but the game appears to be using a similar character to that of Seaman 2, a caveman/monkey person and instead of talking to the ’seaman,’ players use the iPhone’s touch screen to interact with it.

I’m not sure if this game is actually being published or developed by any Sega team though.  The news originallly came from Yoot’s own personal blog, in the form of some truly awful broken English translation.

It seems the game will be released in Japan first, but Yoot confirms that there are plans for a worldwide release.  Hurrah!

One last thing to do: “Gabo, Gabo! GABO!”  (Simpsons fans should appreciate that).

Own the complete (US) Dreamcast collection

DC CollectionUsually most Dreamcast auctions online (well eBay…), only have a couple of control pads and a few games, but not this one!  You now have the chance to buy the complete (or so we are led to believe) US collection of Dreamcast goodies.

Only a few days left to win this fantastic bundle;

1 white Dreamcast console (complete) with av/power cables
1 black Sega Sports edition Dreamcast console with rf/power cables
6 official controllers (5 white, 1 Sega Sports black)
1 3rd party controller
1 light gun
8 official vmu memory cards (4 blue, 2 green, 2 red)
2 3rd party memory cards
1 official jump pack (complete)
2 3rd party jump packs
2 official microphones

You also get somne 247 (unique - no repeats) Dreamcast titles, I would have listed them here, but it’s a very long list…

At the time of writing this, the auction is at $610, (that’s about £305) which is no doubt too expensive for some, but at the same time, the collection does feature some games which can go for over $50, at times.  So overall, this could be well worth it, let’s just hope the price doesn’t go up much farther.

TGS07: Seaman 2 hands-on impressions

Seaman 2

One game that would be bound to get any Sega fan tingling, has got to be Seaman 2.  So, cunningly, Sega decided to hide the game away, with the DS and Wii titles, right next to Sonic Rush Adventure.  So, as you may imagine, the display for Seaman 2, was none too impressive - just a PS2 in a display unit, not much else.

One thing that would catch your eye, though, would be the new Seamancontroller.  For the Dreamcast version, Sega released the microphone attachment, but for the PS2, they have designed a brand new control pad for the game.

The pad looks nothing like a normal PS2 pad, in fact it kind of reminds me of the really old Megadrive controllers (the big ones), but flatter, with a single analogue stick, and a nice chunky microphone bit sticking up.

Sorry for the blurred image, this is the only close-up I got of the controller.

TGS 2007: Day one overview

TGS Big sega sign

Well hello there fellow Sega Nerdians.  It is I Graham, and I have just finished for the day at Tokyo Game Show.

It was a worrying time for a while, as we were told at one point we wouldn’t be allowed Press Passes this year (another sucky thing about not being paid for this job!).  However, I managed to use my cunning, guile and my amazing charms to get myself tickets for all 4 days.  So after flashing my collection of thongs at the lady, and blinding her, I managed to nab a pass, and got into the show.

Right now, I’m incredibly tired and hungry - walking around for some 9 hours definitely wears a hole in your socks!  So because of this, I have decided to give you guys a very quick overview of my experiences today.  A quick guide to some of the games I played, and some brief impressions.

But do not worry, over the next couple of days, I shall definitely be bringing you the goods, with plenty of videos, pictures and honest opinions on the upcoming games from Sega, plus some big games from some other companies - and a few smaller ones.

What did I see/do today?

Seaman 2 to finally arrive in Japan Oct. 18

073107sea.jpgThe PS2 continues to soldier on as Seaman 2 appears to be finally set on an Oct. 18 release date after several other supposed dates have come and gone.

For gamers who pre-order the sim-game beginning Aug. 1, you’ll receive Seaman 2: A History of Life audio CD. The Soundtrack of Life will also be released.

Unlike the original Seaman, which featured a fish with a human head, the sequel will feature the Peking Man. Discovered in China in the early 1900s, the Peking Man is believed to be the first tool worker and lived anywhere from 250,000 to 400,000 years ago.

In the game, you’ll teach him to hunt, fish, talk and other methods of taking care of himself. Like the original, Seaman 2 will come in two packages - one with a bundled controller, and one with the game only.

Currently, there’s still no word on a release outside of Japan, but we’re of course holding out hope. Hey Sega, if you do ever plan to do so, how about a Wii port? It just makes too much sense.

[Thanks for the tip, Ali]

Well it’s all in Japanese, but I wouldn’t let that stop you visiting this website. There are some brilliant videos on the site that show off the game, which is looking just as fun, if not more so, than the original.

CHECK IT OUT HERE

Navigate the site with the buttons along the bottom. In one video you can literally watch some lovely Japanese ladies spank a monkey.. Its totally worth it too.

The game is for the PS2 and will release with its own controller, I’m hoping it gets a port to the Nintendo Wii. The graphics are a little dodgy around the edges and I hope they can be cleaned up a bit before the game is released but other than that its looking like a totally awesome game.
