Three free Sega games on your mobile
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, North America. Tagged with After Burner, Golden Axe, Mobile.
That’s a bit of a mouthful eh? Well Sega Mobile is offering it’s US residents the chance to download three of their titles for nothing.
Sonic Jump, After Burner II and Golden Axe are all on offer, from GameJump. The game’s are being offered for free through a partnership deal with GreyStripe. There is, however, a catch. The games are free but they contain adverts.
I’m not entirely sure how bad the adverts are or how annoying they might be, as it seems the deal is not open for European gamers, as mobile game company GLU holds the rights to Sega Mobile games being distributed through the EU.

Sega polls Japanese, finds they like cell phones in bath
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris. Tagged with Mobile.

We’re not particularly sure the reason behind this, but Sega has apparently polled more than 16,000 Japanese and found that more than 40 percent have bathed while making calls, listening to music or playing video games.
Who knows, but perhaps Sega plans on releasing “casual” video game that takes advantage of the Japanese’s waterproof phones and their built-in rumble technology. When properly combined, these three key ingredients could make for one of the most popular video games for the ladies of all time.

See Super Monkey Ball iPhone in action

Sega just unveiled Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone yesterday, and up to that point, all we had to go on was a couple of photos from Gizmodo. However, now there’s a video of the full demonstration, and it’s hard not to be blown away by such a perfect port of the game.
Using the iPhone’s built-in accelerometers, all you need to do to control AiAi is to tilt the phone where you want to go, explains Sega’s Ethan Einhorn.
Sega reveals Super Monkey Ball for iPhone

So Sega’s developing software for the iPhone using Apple’s new software development kit, and it just revealed its first title on the platform during a town-hall meeting – Super Monkey Ball. Gizmodo was there and apparently the game runs really smooth.
“The iPhone OS is a robust development platform that will allow Sega to deliver mobile gaming experiences that are truly compelling,” said Simon Jeffrey, Sega of America president. “Using the iPhone’s accelerometer to power a tilt control feature adds a whole new dimension to Super Monkey Ball, and we can’t wait for gamers to try it.”
We’re sure there’s someone out there really excited about this news. Someone … somewhere. Just not here.
Free mobile download: Sega Puzzle Pack Blue
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News. Tagged with Downloads, Mobile, Puyo Puyo.
If like me, you have no good games on your mobile phone, then it it looks like Sega can save the day (Yey!).
You can now download the Sega Puzzle Pack Blue, for free. The ‘pack’ contains two of Sega’s classic puzzle titles, Columns and Puyo Pop, just right for mobile gaming.
The two games a failry similar, both giving the task of ridding the player’s screen of coloured balls/gems. Columns (Sega’s classic rival for Tetris) has the player trying to line up gems of the same colour, in order to wipe them out. While Puyo Pop, has players trying to match up coloured orbs, in groups of 4.
Follow this link, to download your free version now. {Note: We, at Sega Nerds, do not take any responsibility for this download. So if it doesn’t work on your mobile, or actually contains gay-porn, then we are sorry, but it’s not out fault. Just a friendly warning}

Chaplain talks Sega’s mobile future
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, News. Tagged with Mobile.
Sega’s newest acquisition, Linda Chaplain, sat down with IGN recently to discuss Sega’s future in the mobile video game industry and how she plans to lead her new company on a revolution to take over the world.
She said her first order of business is to “build an experienced and dedicated mobile publishing team and infrastructure to support the platform. Inspire creative thinking about the mobile platform possibilities throughout the Sega organization. Expand distribution.”
While that may seem to like a no-brainer for most people, she said initially, Sega will continue to bring popular established franchises to the mobile platform, but it will “continue to explore and create new game concepts for the console market and now the mobile platform.”
It’s nice to see someone actually taking the mobile platform serious for a change. Hopefully, this means something else besides Sonic, Super Monkey Ball and Charlotte’s Web. Oh wait a second, does anyone even play games on their mobile anymore?

EA sales director jumps ship to Sega Mobile
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris. Tagged with Mobile.
Wow, last week Electronic Arts sent a shot across Sega’s proverbial bow when Billy Gordon gave some pretty lame reasons why his company chose not to support the Dreamcast. Now this week, Sega has stolen EA’s Linda Chaplin and has appointed her Vice President of Sega Mobile.
At her stay at EA, she was the senior director of strategic sales and worldwide licensing for EA’s mobile division. Now at Sega, Chaplain will direct the “expansion of Sega’s mobile initiative and bolstering the company’s drive to capitalize on the complex and growing mobile game market, according to Sega’s press release.
The truly interesting piece in this, however, is Sega of Japan is handing over operations and management for the Americas to Chaplin. This has previously been handled by SoJ.
“Sega is one of the most recognizable consumer brands in the game industry with well known and popular video game characters and franchises,†said Chaplin. “I’m excited to expand Sega’s mobile presence in the Americas utilizing our rich library of content as well as newly licensed properties.â€
All I can say is I hope this move means we’ll see less games like Charlotte’s Web and some original games that people will actually enjoy.
Code Monkeys develops mobile Golden Compass
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris. Tagged with Golden Compass, Mobile.
We know Sega plans to publish Golden Compass on every current gaming platform, but what hasn’t been announced is if or who will develop the title for mobile phones. Well, today I can answer that question.
Code Monkeys, who have developed such AAA titles such as Shrek: Treasure Hunt, Mighty Mulan and Legend of Hurkules (Yes, with a “k”), has recently inked a deal to bring the game to your favorite mobile phone.
To Code Monkeys’ credit, they have been in the video game business for a long time, having developed titles for the Commodore 64 all the way to the PS2. However, since most mobile games aren’t very fun to begin with, I’m really not expecting too much.
