IGN tells us what they want in Jet Set Radio 3

IGN writes about how Jet Set Radio can make a come back, I’m sure a lot of fans want this to happen, including me. IGN says the game should be on the Nintendo Wii, a Sega favorite for IP resurrections it seems. Even though NiGHTS and Samba de Amigo returns haven’t fared all too well in the sales department.

” Co-op or competitive play could allow for more extravagant city-spraying, allowing for teams of players locally to face off against other groups of AI gangs, or online foursomes to take to the streets and spray their own tags against other skate crews online, all with the help of WiiSpeak. Unique, user-made spray icons, taken from the original Dreamcast concept, could be made offline in a simple IR-based editor (or with the help of a connected DS and stylus), with whole crews using those logos not only in-level for basic spray zones, but also as their crew tag in massive online leaderboards.”

We already know that Head Strong games asked Sega if they could do a new Jet Set Radio game, but it wouldn’t be the same without Smilebit. Not saying that Head Strong Games aren’t good developers, just saying I would like a third game by Smilebit, thats all.

Rumour: More Sega IPs to be revived?

Resurrecting IPs?

Speaking to MCV recently about Samba De Amigo and how Sega is planning its revival on the Wii, Product Manager Ben Payne also spoke about Sega’s possible intentions of bringing more classic IPs onto the current generation systems.

“It’s certainly interesting,” said Payne.  “What we’re doing is making good iterations of classic Sega IP.  So we’ve had House of the Dead, and there’s another one coming, and then there’s Golden Axe, Samba, Nights and Sega Bass Fishing.  It just shows that Sega has a really good catalogue of IP that it can dip into whenever it pleases.”

This is by no means a confirmation that Sega is planning any more resurrections of its older franchises, though I wouldn’t doubt some potentials in the pipeline.

There have been many rumours flying around about a new Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia and more over the past couple of years.  Of course, some of them are no doubt not going to happen anytime soon (like Shenmue), but some of the rumours could work out.

It’s always interesting to hear someone from Sega acknowledging that they have some classic titles which people would like to see return.

Rumour: Kuju to make the new Jet set Radio game?

Professor K

It has come to our attention that in 2006 Kuju tried to pitch an idea for a new Jet Set Radio title.  Unfortunately it seems that the idea was rejected at the time.  But perhaps Sega has had a change of hearts, what with rumours that a new Jet Set Radio could be on it’s way, possibly for the Wii.

The ‘evidence’ (let’s call it that) came to light, when we were tipped off about some artwork, drawn by Cory “The Rey” Lewis, which was used in the original pitch back in 2006.  The artwork shows off a few of the main characters, plus some rival gangs - including a brand new gang, designed by Cory.

Artwork and more info after the break.

Jet Set Raio Wii?We’ve heard this rumour several times in the past few years, but perhaps now it has more credence.

According to Kotaku, Sega has recently re-filed, for the game’s trademark - dated 24th July 2008 - and at the recent Comic-Con this year, the gaming website overheard some interesting rumours.

That’s what we heard from friendlier folks at Comic-Con last week, specifically that the publisher was planning on bringing back one of its more beloved franchises, Jet Grond Radio.

We were overly excited to hear a rumor that Sega was planning on reintroducing the series, this time on the Wii.
