Yakuza 3 makes top 15 best selling games list
Posted by George. Filed under George, Japan, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Charts, Sales, Yakuza 3.

Nikkei Entertainment magazine has posted a top 15 list of the best selling games in Japan, with Yakuza 3 coming at 3rd place (overall) and being the best selling PS3 game for December 29, 2008 to June 6, 2009. The list is for Japan only.
Yakuza 3 beat out heavy hitters like Resident Evil 5 ( PS3 version) and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Day. Nikkei marks Yakuza 3 at 485,630 units sold, even though Sega already confirmed it shipped 500,000 copies a few months ago. I assume it is because that was the last time the game charted.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva first day sales are in
Posted by George. Filed under George, Japan, News, Sony PSP. Tagged with 000, Famitsu First Day Sales, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, over 9.

What can I say about Hatsune Miku: Project Diva? I can say its a cute game…. err …. aimed at the Japanese public? OK, maybe I can’t say much about the game, but the first day sales are in and it sold 41,000 units, selling about 70% of its first shipment.
It was the best selling game on the day it was released, but that isn’t saying much since the only other two games released on the same day where Boku no Natsuyasumi 4 (Sold 23,000 units) and Grand Slam Tennis (Sold 1,900 units).
I will not be shocked if the game is number one in the weekly charts, I expect it to sell 55,000 units for the week, what about you guys?

Infinite Space animated video promises Spring 2010 release
Posted by George. Filed under George, News, Nintendo DS, North America, Video. Tagged with Anime, Infinite Space, Promotion, Release Date, Shorts.
We already know that Infinite Space launched in Japan, but what about the rest of the world? Sega of America has been kind enough to translate (and release) one of the short anime web episodes (or webisodes if you are hip), they even have English voices!
OK, so maybe the voice acting isn’t great, but it is better than not understanding what is going on. Sega teases us by telling us this is just part one of four videos to be released, so get ready. In the end of the video they promise a Spring 2010 release date.
Seems that everything on DS gets an anime, what about us console folks?

Even more Aliens RPG concept art

The other day we showed you a couple of images from the now cancelled Aliens RPG. However, apparently a lot more concept art was released on the Obsidian forums about a month ago, just no one reported on it/ realised it.
But here it all is now, including a rather freaky looking ‘Red Queen’ (above):
How much did the Sonic brand make in 2008?
Posted by George. Filed under George, Multi-platform, News, Nintendo Wii, North America, Sonic. Tagged with $, Sonic, Sonic and Mario, Sonic Unleashed.
So how much did the Sonic brand make in 2008? According to Wedbush Morgan Securities’ industry report it made $163 million dollars. A even better fact, this only accounts for United States, not Europe, where Sonic is more popular.
Sonic came in at number 11 on their top 30 list of most profitable game brands. This means that it made more money than the Gears of War , The Sims and Tom Clancy brands.
The majority of sales came from Mario and Sonic, a game that has been charting since it was released in 2007 (Wii version) and the release of Sonic Unleashed in late 2008. I’m sure Sonic would have cracked the top ten if they released Sonic Unleashed around spring 2008, instead of in the fall. Another Sonic game that was released in 2008 was Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

Twin Sticks EX going into production
Posted by George. Filed under George, Japan, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Retro. Tagged with 300 dollars, Twin Sticks EX, Virtual On, XBLA.

Sega has confirmed that Twin Sticks EX are going into production. Last week Sega said that the pre-orderes where going well. It seems they went so well that they got those 1,500 pre-orders before the deadline. The last day to pre-order is on July 2nd.
In other Virtual On news, Sega has launched a page to show off the new update that is coming on July 1st (tomorrow!). This update will add support for online match viewing, let players waiting in lobby watch the match going on, adds a special “Graphic Arrange” feature to the settings menu, brings some slight changes to the light and shadow effects, makes changes to controls, and most importantly fixes bugs that where found in the game.
To get the new update, simply boot the game up. I’m assuming the update will be world wide, but I guess we will find out on July 1st.

Sega not done with mature titles on Wii
Posted by George. Filed under Europe, George, News, Nintendo Wii. Tagged with House of the Dead Overkill, MadWorld, mature, profit, real talk, Sales.

Sega has delivered some of the best M rated titles on the Nintendo Wii this year, both MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill where excellent. But did they flop sales wise? Most people you talk to online will say they did.
According to Gary Dunn, MD of European development for Sega, House of the Dead: Overkill was a profitable title, while MadWorld did sell as expected. I’m assuming that is a nice way of saying it flopped?
More after the break…
