New Genesis game Coffee Crisis pays homage to classic beat ’em ups

During the era of the SEGA Genesis, the console delivered some truly classic beat ’em up games like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Splatterhouse. A new SEGA Genesis game on Kickstarter wants to bring back the beat ’em up in a brand new 16 bit adventure.

“The Smurglian race has come to Earth and they’re not leaving until they steal our four most prized commodities: our metal music, the best coffee, cat videos, and all of the WiFi. Challenge them through unique and innovative levels inspired by real-life areas (except for the Mars stage – that’s just Will’s imagination), on a retro platform that needs new games like Earthlings need WiFi, the Sega Genesis. Join Black Forge Coffeehouse baristas Nick and Ashley, two galaxy gladiators called to arms to stop this madness and remove the Smurglian threat from Earth.

The Smurgliens can have the Kid Rocks, Coldplays, and Linkin Parks… but if you don’t help our heroes fend off against the alien-assimilated elderly, bros, cowgirls, and country western singers, who knows what could happen!”

Coffee Crisis has $6,134 with a goal of $10,000 on Kickstarter. The game has 15 days to go, so if you’d like to help out (and check out their page), click here to do so! You can also check out the Mega Cat Studio’s website by clicking here.
