See the Shenmue III Gamescom teaser trailer here!

Ryo finally emerges to the cave, and it's glorious

It’s Gamescom week, and we knew Yu Suzuki and his team at YsNet were there to show Shenmue III in some capacity, but we weren’t totally expecting them to release new gameplay footage, but that’s just what we got!

The video opens with Ryo and Shenhua inside the cave before they emerge during sunset to overlook a small village. The pace quickly picks up to show Ryo training martial arts with an elderly man, who I don’t believe we’ve seen before. We also see the big chap in suspenders make a return, and it appears as if Ryo has to fight him, possibly to protect Shenhua?

There are some absolutely beautiful locales featured in the video, and the new character models look pretty good.

Surely, there are some Easter eggs hidden within this video, so let’s get to cracking this egg, Shenmue fans!

Shenmue III is scheduled for release in the second half of 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and PC, with Deep Silver publishing the game worldwide.

  1. I do hope they work on some of the details a bit. Her earrings, for example, should not be hovering at about 20%s. Lovely environment design, though!

  2. The characters look really, really bad. The environmental modeling looks wonderful and naturalistic, while the characters look too simplistic and stylized to match their surroundings. The bad guy is so freakishly cartoonish it’s hard to believe this is actually what Shenmue III could conceivably look like.

The animation looks really poor also, but that is something that is easier to overlook in a teaser. For some reason that at least feels like something to be tackled later on.

  3. As long as they iron out those models, i think it will turn out ok. It still has more than a year left on release, so i’m not worried.

    The environments look beautiful.
