SEGA encourages fans to “keep making great [Sonic] stuff”, pokes fun at Nintendo

It’s a bit hard to be a Nintendo fan when they keep taking down your fan games. This past month, we’ve seen a pretty great tribute to Metroid 2 and one fan also revealed their Sonic the Hedgehog game, which is pretty amazing.

The creators of Metroid 2 were forced to take down their game due to a cease-and-desist from Nintendo, while SEGA and Sonic the Hedgehog‘s Twitter account seem to be encouraging fan-made content.

I think SEGA is doing the right thing with fans who express their love for their favorite games through fan-made content. Yu Suzuki hired Kid Nocon after noticing the amazing Shenmue HD content that he was creating on his own. Keep up the good work, SEGA!

  1. Sega wasn’t always like this, though. They’ve shut down a fair amount of fan projects, themselves. If anything this is a PR stunt they’re doing to take advantage of the heat Nintendo’s getting.

    1. I don’t really follow what happen, but you know that they’re a good company if they only shutdown fans project who use stolen assets instead of making them from scratch.

I only know 2 fans project so my knowledge is limited, as far as i know Golden Axe Myth who make their own artwork/music, etc is still around & safe. Bareknuckle fans project who stole everything from the original game get shuts down

  2. Of course they encourage fans to make fans making Sonic games. To later make official romhacks since Sega mostly makes shitty Sonic games.
