Check out this Jet Set Radio proof of concept shot down by SEGA

One of SEGA’s most beloved IPs, Jet Set Radio, has long been overdue for a sequel. Dinosaur Games, a studio based in Austin, Texas, actually pitched a fantastic proof of concept for their game, Jet Set Radio Evolution.

We made this Visual Proof of Concept after Sony expressed interest in seeing the characters in motion at GDC 2017. We spent a week animating and building the city for this presentation which was ultimately turned down by Sega.
This was the first step towards a gameplay demo. If Sega was interested we were going to invest in making a functioning prototype.

Check out the concept in the video above and let us know what you think in the comments below!

  1. Shame it never happened, the art style works great and it’s easily recognizable as the JSR brand from a glance. Just looks faithful to the originals. Heck it clearly looks as if they put some real feeling into the design, these guys are clearly JSR fans.
Gameplay wise I’d hope we could get the arcade style gameplay back a bit.
I know stopping to play a little follow the motions spray painting minigame wasn’t so fun for some and JSR:Future took it away for easy tagging and larger worlds but I like the idea of the tags being a little challenging and requiring just a little planning instead just just running over tag area and mashing the button.
Really hope SEGA changes their mind this style really works for the JSR series to me and I’d be more than down for a modern sequel, it just seems like a good time in the gaming market for something flashy and unique again.
