Interplay is selling off Earthworm Jim, Boogerman, MDK rights
Things aren’t looking very good for Interplay these days, as it appears the company is enter a process to sell off many of its assets and intellectual property, including the beloved Earthworm Jim series, according to a Nasdaq press release.
The full amount of its IPs totals to about 70, with another dozen characters expected to be included in the sale, but those included in the press release are: Battle Chess, Boogerman, Clay Fighter, Dark Alliance, Descent, Earthworm Jim, Freespace, Kingpin, M.A.X., Messiah, MDK, Redneck Rampage, Run Like Hell, Sacrifice, T-Rex Rumble, and Giants
“With the proliferation of mobile, augmented reality, virtual reality and other new forms of consumption, we believe that consumers are ready to experience and interact with Interplay’s characters, stories and game play in ways never possible before,” said Interplay CEO Eric Caen.
Earthworm Jim creator, Mike TenNapel took to Twitter to provide his thoughts.
Fans deserve a proper Earthworm Jim cartoon/game/toy but I assume it will go to a business that thinks EWJ is just a title and not a method.

It’s interesting to see Boogerman on the list, as there was a Kickstarter campaign to fund a sequel, which ultimately failed, but would have included Earthworm Jim as a playable character.
