SEGA PR rep explains why Yakuza 5 release date was removed
Earlier today, SEGA published a blog post detailing some of the translation issues they’ve had with Yakuza 5.
But the most newsworthy piece of the post was that they were targeting a mid-November release for the much-anticipated PlayStation 3 release.
However, soon after it was published, the post was edited, removing any mention of the mid-November release window. We reached out to SEGA and received some clarification for why it was removed.
SEGA PR rep John Hardin explained that the release date was removed because SEGA was worried people would take the language too specifically and that it would be able to release Yakuza 5 in that time frame if everything goes to plan.
He reiterated that SEGA still hopes to release the game in mid-November but is non-committal on the date.
Yakuza 5 will release digitally on the PS3.

Take your time, SEGA, it’s totally cool. We’ve waited all this time, another month or so is no problem at all. I would MUCH rather you had the time to release the game free of bugs, than to be forced to ship it out early….and broken ! Cannot wait !
Good. We don’t want to get shafted by AAA titles AKA Fallout 4. Hopefully they can release it on December 8, 2015, (more sightly 3 years after the Japanese release date since it’s first release on December 6, 2012).
Fallout 4 is on a completely different console.
Most pining to get Fallout 4 don’t have Yakuza 5 anywhere near their radar since its not on PS4/XB1/PC
I know that. However releasing a niche game on the same date as a big game is NOT a good idea. Some PS3 owners already have a good PC, PS4 or Xbox One to play Fallout 4 as their most anticipated game of the year. Even the games are in the different platforms, big AAA titles games will screw over the niche games. For example on Sept 1 2015, NIS America got shafted for releasing Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (niche game), the SAME date as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (big AAA game). Or another example on September 29, 2015 on Atlus’ for releasing Persona 4: Dancing All Night and Tecmo Koei’s Samurai Warriors 4-II the SAME date as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 (bad game) and NBA 2K16 (Big AAA game). If Yakuza 5 releases the SAME date as Fallout 4, well Sega is officially screwed for low sales making them not localize future Yakuza titles anytime soon. It’s better if it’s release when Sega did not release at the SAME date or closer to the AAA title games.
