Producer Katsura Hashino has revealed more information about the upcoming Persona 5 video game. According to Famitsu, the protagonist “is a second-year high school student who transfers to Shibuya in the spring (the start of the school year in Japan) to live with friends of his parents in a coffee shop they own.” It is not currently known what happened to his parents.
The main character’s default Persona “is that of a Arsène, a master thief named in reference to Arsène Lupin.” Character designer Shigenori Soejima mentioned that Arsène’s cape can make him go places other characters cannot. Our protagonist also puts on a facade, acting quiet and passive.
Towards the start of the game, the main character will meet a transforming cat named Morgana, who will have a big role in the story. The other two characters that were shown in the trailer will be met early on in the game.
The combat “will remain turn-based and each character will have at least some sort of long-range weapon. Dungeons will stay randomly-generated, but there will be more prescribed areas in mind to fit certain story beats.” It has also been confirmed that social links will return in Persona 5.
