Review: Yakuza 2

The original Yakuza received a fair bit of praise for its gritty fighting and intense storyline, but never really made it as a household name among non-Sega fans, which is no doubt why Sega took so long to release the game outside of Japan.
But now one of the most brutal franchises on the PS2 has finally made its way to Western shores, but is it any good?
GC 2008: Yakuza 2

One of the coolest games Sega made since their fall from the hardware business, and possibly the closest game to the Shenmue franchise (although still way off), is Yakuza.Â
With the impending western release of Yakuza 2, Sega has sent out some new screens of the English version, and it’s looking sharp - a lot sharper than the original, at least.
Also, Yakuza is (so far) the only PS2 game, that I own, that I actually love. Which is perhaps why I am so damn excited for it’s sequel. Right now my PS2 is getting about as much play as my PSP (which is bugger all), so I need something to get that disc drive spinning once more.
All we need now is for Sega to re-release the games on the Wii, like most companies seem to do, and piss off more newspapers, with another violent game on the ‘kiddy console’ ;o)

Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! Demo Impressions

As the release of Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! quickly approaches from over the distant horizon, Playstation 3 owners who live in the Land of the Rising Sun have been treated to an influx of downloadable content which Sega hopes will show the greatness of their latest big title.
With the release of two separate demos, as well as a trailer which stretches to over four minutes long, it’s clear that Sega is putting a good amount of press and hype into this, the newest game from Toshihiro Nagoshi. Not a surprising fact, as Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! has the largest budget of any game the company’s produced since Shenmue on the Dreamcast.
