Some new MADWORLD screens

Some of these screens are old, but I decided to just post them all, in case some of you missed them. MADWORLD has already been used as an example of how violence in games can be bad for kids and its not even out. I don’t think the new screens will help the situation.
Sega hoping to open up a new market for the Wii

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz Darren Williams, head of content at Sega A&R, spoke a little of his feelings towards the Wii and how Sega hopes to (effectively) create a new market in the console’s games library.
When asked if he thought the Wii was a good starting point for new gamers and if the gamers would then move on to the true next gen consoles (360 and PS3), Darren had this to say:
MADWORLD shakes things up in California

This Wednesday, California will try to revive its anti-violent-video-game law through a federal court appeal. Guess what game is being used as an example? That’s right, MADWORLD.
The law will stop minors from buying violent video games. Makes me wonder, isn’t this law already in effect? According to supporters (like The Terminator), violence in video games leads to teen violence.
MADWORLD box art

Check out the cover for MadWorld, its so lacking in color! Well, we did sort of expect that. It has the RP (rating pending) logo for the ESRB tacked on, even though we all know it’s going to be a M rated game.
Plus, nothing tells parents your game has ultra violence like having blood on the cover. MadWorld will be released next year, and I can’t wait to play some man darts.

Platinum Games reworking MADWORLD controls

According to Joystiq, Platinum Games is currently working on fine tuning the controls for the upcoming blood-fest MADWORLD.
The announcement came at at Nintendo’s Fall Media Summit, where the Joystiq crew were happy to find MADWORLD running on two kiosks, but were soon disappointed to hear that they would not be able to play the game, just yet.
Instead, Sega reps informed us that the game is currently undergoing some fundamental changes to its control scheme and that, well, they basically didn’t want us to play it in its current state.
MADWORLD TGS teaser

Next up with the TGS 08 teasers is MADWORLD. We have seen a fair amount of video footage of the game, but it’s always nice to see such gratuitous violence on Nintendo’s ‘kiddie box’ (hmm sounds illegal).
It’s good to see that the game is shaping up well, and despite being only three colours, it is a very good looking game.

Sega’s TGS time schedule

The problem with going to TGS is that it feels like you are playing Dead Rising in real life, everything is timed! But thanks to Sega releasing their time schedule, we can be at their booths at the right times with extra drool.
The events will be broadcast live at Sega’s TGS site (all besides 428 and Project Diva). There will be a booth with games not on the list, that didn’t get a showing. This list is also missing surprises like Prope’s new game and a secret unannounced game (this game should be shown on the net in the next couple of days via Famitsu).

MADWORLD might include online features

The guys (and gals) over at videogaming247 have updated their Games Convention coverage, apparently MADWORLD project head Atsushi Inaba has confirmed that the game will be single player, but they in discussing online features.
“still in discussions and may have [online] features to announce.â€
I don’t think online leaderboards can hurt this title. Online multiplayer could be cool, having a game of human darts online? The online mode doesn’t even have to be deep! But I guess it could be a waste to focus on a new mode and meet Nintendo’s strict online requirements.

Sega in talks with BBFC over MADWORLD controversy
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo Wii. Tagged with Controversy, MadWorld, Morons, Platinum Games.

After the recent news that several UK tabloids and pressure groups, have shown their outrage at the levels of (cartoon) violence in MADWORLD, plus the news that Germany is to ban the game outright, Sega has revealed that they are in talks with the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and Pan-European Gaming Information system (PEGI), in a bid to ensure that the game does see it’s release.
Sega’s David Corless, had this to say on the matter:
“Yes, it’s violent. We don’t try to hide that, but as publishers, we see it as a fantasy game - it’s fantasy violence. It’s over the top. It’s cartoony. We also take the violence very seriously. We are working with the age rating boards, with PEGI and with BBFC.
Germany bans MADWORLD and House of the Dead: Overkill
Posted by George. Filed under Europe, George, Nintendo Wii. Tagged with House of the Dead, MadWorld.

Germany has apparently said that the content in both MADWORLD and House of the Dead: Overkill has to be changed if they want to sell the product in Germany. It doesn’t seem like Sega will comply. I side with Sega on this issue, because censoring is lame. Especially censoring games that are still in development.
Though the world is not bleak for Germans, since Germany and the rest of Europe all use Pal, so Germans could just import it from a nearby country and not even need a bootloader. However, I think this will affect sales in the end, sadly.
