Unfortunately we are not having a contest to win a Dreamcast bundle (though the idea has certainly come up a few times), but the retro-website Recycled Gaming is holding a Dreamcast contest.  Full details on how to enter are yet to be announced, but the prize has been revealed, and it is a pretty good one.

Participants will be in with a chance of winning a pretty decent Dreamcast bundle featuring:

I’d say that is a pretty cool prize for any Sega Nerd.  Especially if you haven’t got a Dreamcast yet - it is a very good starting point.  Plus, you know, it’s free.

[Update:] The contest has now started folks, all you need do is answer five questions - all of which should be very easy for any true Sega Nerd ;o)  So check it out, and good luck!

Be sure to check back at Recycled Gaming over the next couple of days, when the full contest details should be announced.

Crazy Taxi: Double Punch on its way to Japan

8:07am 3 Jul '08

I had no idea that Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars still has yet to release in Japan, despite the fact that it was released in North America and Europe in August and September, respectively. However, in the move to Japan, the game has received a name change - instead of Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars, it’s now known as Crazy Taxi: Double Punch. I’m not really sure what that’s supposed to mean, but the sexual innuendo is definitely there, so it may help the game sell better in Japan.

The above video is the Japanese debut trailer for the game that will ship in the region Aug. 14.

ScrewAttack remembers Crazy Taxi

ScrewAttack is best known for its affiliation with the Angry Video Game Nerd, but its Video Game Vault series has quite the following on Gametrailers, too. Today, they take a look back at Crazy Taxi, one of the Dreamcast’s most fun games.

For the most part, their trip down memory lane is pretty spot on, but c’mon, they don’t like the in-game music? That’s one of the hallmarks of the series, and it certainly isn’t the same without some Bad Religion and Offspring. I mean just take a look at Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars if you don’t believe me.

ATEI 2008 Earl’s Court

A couple of days ago, I informed you all, that I (which would ultimately mean Sega Nerds) would be attending the ATEI 2008 show.

The whole show is dedicated to the different sides of gaming, which includes Slot machines, Pinball machines, Quiz machines and even money counting equipment (for casinos, I would presume).  But most importantly, for us, the show also focuses upon Arcade machines.

First things first, before I get onto reviewing the line up of games that Sega had on show, I should point out that this years ATEI felt very different to that of last years.  Well different for Sega, at least.

Finally! The New Years Nerdaway!

Finally it is here! Apologies we had planned to hold it sooner, but… well I won’t fob you off with any excuses, it was held off, it’s here now.  That is what matters!

Previously we had teased you with the outline of prizes we had on offer, and now I give you the rules, regulations and (most importantly) the questions, with which you will need to win.

Rules:  We have 4 seperate bundles of prizes to give away.  Each bundle has a question to go with it.  All you need do is choose which of the prizes bundles you would like to try and win, and answer the corresponding question, and then send your answer(s) to us (contact info coming up).

You can enter to win as many of the bundles you want to, however, we will pick the winners for each bundle in order (starting with 4, ending with 1), and should your name be chosen for Bundle 4, you will not be eligeble for any of the other bundles.

So if you really want to win Bundle 1, it could be wise not to enter for all 4 bundles, in case you ‘accidentally’ win a different bundle.  But, then again, if you just want to win some Sega gaming goodies, then go ahead and enter for all the bundles!

The full list of prizes and questions coming up after the jump.

Sega dates upcoming European releases

European Release Q4 07Sega Europe has given the official release dates, for some of their upcoming, highly anticipated, titles.

Even though I have my bias towards Sega, many of you (non-Sega fans) will have to admit, that’s a pretty sweet line-up right there.  Sonic Rivals 2 is the only one I’m not overally excited about, but the rest I’m really looking forward to.

Hopefully we will be able to bring you reviews on all those games, (even if I have to buty them all myself!) -Although I just realised that I will be in Japan for the the TGS when Crazy Taxi is released….dammit.

Beware of dodgy Crazy Taxi copies, or just bitter liars

Crazy Taxi Fare Wars complaint

It seems that a poster in the forums over at GameSpot, named zeo_max, posted up a mini review for the new Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars, on the PSP.Quite shockingly the mysterious poster, complained about some very poor frame-rates and terrible loading times.

“I just picked this up from my local EB. I’m sorry to say that there are serious frame rate issues, the image looks stretched out on the PSP’s widescreen, and it takes about one minute to load each level.”

Naturally, any Sega Nerd would be very upset, to hear how one of their beloved franchises has been made poorly. And I’m sure many of us were really looking forward to getting our hands on some decent Crazy Taxi handheld action…..

But wait! This fairytale story doesn’t end there. No, in the true Disney style, of story telling, we have a happy ending.
