ATEI 2008 Earl’s Court

A couple of days ago, I informed you all, that I (which would ultimately mean Sega Nerds) would be attending the ATEI 2008 show.

The whole show is dedicated to the different sides of gaming, which includes Slot machines, Pinball machines, Quiz machines and even money counting equipment (for casinos, I would presume).  But most importantly, for us, the show also focuses upon Arcade machines.

First things first, before I get onto reviewing the line up of games that Sega had on show, I should point out that this years ATEI felt very different to that of last years.  Well different for Sega, at least.

Finally! The New Years Nerdaway!

Finally it is here! Apologies we had planned to hold it sooner, but… well I won’t fob you off with any excuses, it was held off, it’s here now.  That is what matters!

Previously we had teased you with the outline of prizes we had on offer, and now I give you the rules, regulations and (most importantly) the questions, with which you will need to win.

Rules:  We have 4 seperate bundles of prizes to give away.  Each bundle has a question to go with it.  All you need do is choose which of the prizes bundles you would like to try and win, and answer the corresponding question, and then send your answer(s) to us (contact info coming up).

You can enter to win as many of the bundles you want to, however, we will pick the winners for each bundle in order (starting with 4, ending with 1), and should your name be chosen for Bundle 4, you will not be eligeble for any of the other bundles.

So if you really want to win Bundle 1, it could be wise not to enter for all 4 bundles, in case you ‘accidentally’ win a different bundle.  But, then again, if you just want to win some Sega gaming goodies, then go ahead and enter for all the bundles!

The full list of prizes and questions coming up after the jump.

Virtua Tennis 3 gets nominated for a Spike Video Game Award

Well, here I was thinking that Virtua Fighter 5 and Universe at War: Earth Assault would be bringing in all the awards. Seems that the people running Spike’s Video Game Awards took notice of Virtua Tennis 3.

The game is nominated under ‘individual sports game’, competing against Skate, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, and Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. I think we all know that Skate will take the award.

When I first looked at the list of nominees, I scrolled down to find a ‘best fighting game’ category, but there wasn’t one, though there was  ‘best military game’ and ‘best rhythm game’ categories.

Though, I think this is too early for a ‘best game of the year’ awards since theres still more then a month left, meaning they’ll miss out on games like NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.

Virtua Tennis 3 moves up UK sales chart

2:51pm 9 May '07

While Sonic and the Secret Rings and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz are kicking butt in Australia, UK gamers have chosen Virtua Tennis 3 on the PS3 as their favorite Sega game of late as it made the ninth spot in last week’s UK sales chart.

Virtua Tennis 3 was released March 23 in the UK and actually moved up one spot from last week, so it seems it’s holding its own for the time being.

1. Spider-Man
2. Wii Play
3. God of War
4. SingStar Pop Hits!
5. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
6. Buzz! The Mega Quiz
7. FIFA 07
8. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
9. Virtua Tennis 3
10. Pokemon Ranger

Additionally, Sonic and the Secret Rings is at the 22 spot, right behind Diddy Kong Racing.

Review: Virtua Tennis 3 (Xbox 360)

Well now that Virtua Tennis 3 has been out for a couple weeks and appears to have sold pretty well, considering some mixed reviews, it’s finally Sega Nerds’ time to give our opinions on the game.

First up for anyone who doesn’t know what Virtua Tennis is, or have never played them, I shall give you a quick overview and a slap on the wrist for not playing one of the greatest sports franchises ever.

Virtua Tennis was originally released in the arcades and (shortly after) on the Dreamcast in 1999/2000.  It soon became a hit on both platforms.  The Dreamcast version boasted a brilliant 4-player mode (doubles matches) and some extra modes and mini-games. The game has incredibly fast, fluid play and that great ‘pickup and play’ feel that one can only get from Sega games.  The beauty of the game is it’s also very easy to play, which encouraged younger and non-gamers to play the game.  As well has having the speedy standard tennis matches, the game also had some quirky mini-games which lengthened the average play time of the game and gave it some more “comeback” appeal.

Now Sega has blessed us with the serie’s third home-console game, though the N-Gage and PSP also profited from two different versions of the franchise a little while back. So technically, I think this is actually the fifth or sixth game in the series.  But let’s not split hairs, this is Virtua Tennis 3.
