Sonic & the Black Knight to feature multiplayer battle mode

Nintendo Power had a hands-on preview with the upcoming Wii exclusive title, Sonic and the Black Knight. They gave out a bunch of new info, one being that there will be a multiplayer battle mode. The only other playable characters announced for this battle mode, other than Sonic, are Knuckles and Shadow. You will have to beat them in single player to unlock them in battle mode.
You can either do a free-for-all death match, or work together to take down big monsters. It seems that the multiplayer side wasn’t that great (according to Nintendo Power), so that might be an issue.
The cutscenes in game are meant to look like woodcuts, giving it a old style feel. I think that should be interesting. As for character roles in the game you have Shadow as Sir Lancelot, Knuckles as Sir Gawain and Amy Rose as Lady of the Lake.

Sonic and the Black Knight box art

Sega of America has just posted up the American box art for the upcoming Sonic and the Black Knight. I have to say, it’s way better than the Sonic Unleashed box art.
First thing you will obviously notice is the bottom right hand corner, Sega will now proudly label these games ‘Sonic Storybook Series’. Just in cause you didn’t know, its on the cover, don’t mistake it with the “other” Sonic games!
UK:Resistance finally fed up with stupid Sonic concepts

I think most of us are slightly upset with the way Sega has been raping the good Sonic name over the past few years. Games like Shadow, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06 and now Sonic Unleashed haven’t done much to help put Sonic in our good books. Admittedly Sonic Unleashed is a step in the right direction, though the Werehog has caused some upset with Sega fans and the media a-like.
But when the new batch of Sonic and the Black Knight images came out yesterday, the guys over at UK:Resistance finally said; “Ok, enough of this
s%*t!”
For years now Sonic (or his silhouette at least) has been the ‘face’ of UK:R and in the light of seeing Sonic wielding a sword in Black Knight, they have decided to stop using Sonic as their icon, and are asking their readers to choose a new face for the site.

What with Sonic Unleashed being released recently, and all the excitement of Christmas just around the corner, I’m sure some of you will have forgotten that Sega has another Sonic title on the way for 2009.
So to help us all remember, Sega Europe has released a ton of screens for Sonic and the Black Knight. [Edit] Apparently they are all new screens Most of these are new screens, but we have seen a few before from dodgy magazine scans that have cropped up here and there.
No scans here though, and I have to admit some of what we are shown is pretty damn decent, especially for the Wii. Check after the break for the full selection.
TGS 08: Sonic and the Black Knight screenshots

Sega Europe has put up a 10 screenshots of Sonic and the Black Knight, which are (apparently) taken from this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
I have to say, that some of them look graphically good for a Wii game, and then others look, well kind of bland. A few of the screens have been shown before (like the one above) but there are some new ones here.Â

TGS 08: Sonic and the Black Knight trailer

Sega Europe has kindly posted up the new Sonic and the Black Knight trailer. Apparently this is the “European Cut” of the one that has been shown at TGS. But rather than having to look at a dodgy video, taken by someone filming a screen at the show, we get the proper thing, which is nice.
The video shows a wee bit of CG and a fair amount of gameplay footage from the game, all cut together to form a lovely montage. I’m still torn on the whole idea of Sonic using swords, but the game does look vaguely interesting.

Famitsu shows off new Sonic & The Black Knight and Bayonetta screens

Finally some real screens from PlatinumGame’s Bayonetta. The game is looking very good and still has many months in development, though I can already see the bloom. Why do so many next gen games have bloom?
The other game in the issue is Sonic and The Black Knight, pretty much confirming its release for Japan. I wonder if Sega will release Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood in Japan? The game has alot of detail for a wii game and personally I think its looking solid graphic wise.

Just a quick news update. The Sonic and the Black Knight art contest which we reported on the other day is now open to UK and Australian residents. Other European countries will have to wait, and no news whether the contest will hit Japan and other Asian countries.
