arcade_holiday_bonuslg.jpgLast year Microsoft gave out Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2 with their Xbox 360 Premium and Elite during the holidays. Now this year, if you buy the arcade (grumbles) you will get Sega Superstars Tennis for free.

While the Pro and Elite bundles have a better deal with both Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones. The bundles ship out October 8th.

Mario & Sonic still kicking ass in UK, Hulk not so much

The juggernaut that is Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games continues to roll on in last week’s UK software charts ending on June 21, as the Wii title captured the sixth spot. On the other end of the spectrum, Sega and Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk disappointingly fell to the 36th spot in its second week of release.

Other Sega titles to place in the top 40 are:

21. Iron Man
25. Sega Superstars Tennis
29. Football Manager 2008
37. Sonic and the Secret Rings

It’s pretty amazing that Mario & Sonic is still selling so well in the United Kingdom, better even than any other Nintendo-developed game other than Wii Play. With the way the game is selling, it could very well go down as Sega’s best-selling game of all time. Now wouldn’t that be somethin’?

Sega Superstars Tennis has now reached over a million copies sold world wide! If you didn’t find something to like in Sega Superstars Tennis, you are not a Sega fan! This game was a overdose of Sega love, sweet sensual Sega love.

This number comes from VGchartz, so it could be well off.  Something to add, the game hasn’t been released in Japan yet! Not that I think it would do that great there anyway.

Hopefully the game has profited enough and Sumo Digital will be allowed to make a new Sega Superstars game. Maybe a fighting game or a collection of minigames not involving tennis. That was the best part of Sega Superstars Tennis, the minigames. Though I’m sure all you guys have better suggestions, right?

Overall, Sega had a pretty decent week in this week’s UK charts, as Chart Track is reporting Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is holding onto the third spot, while Iron Man debuted just outside of the top 10 at the 11th spot.

  1. Grand Theft Auto IV
  2. Wii Fit
  3. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
  4. Wii Play
  5. Mario Kart Wii
  6. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
  7. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
  8. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare
  9. Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training
  10. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
  11. Iron Man: The Official Videogame

Additionally, Sonic and the Secret Rings holds the down the 17th spot and Sega Superstars Tennis is at 21, dropping down seven spots from last week.

Sega snags three spots in UK’s top 10

Sega has been pretty darn successful as of late in the United Kingdom, and it doesn’t appear that its momentum is slowing down by very much as proven by this week’s top 10 software chart. Sega was able to grab the third, sixth and ninth spot in this week’s charts, having the most titles of any publisher after Nintendo.

  1. Wii Fit
  2. Mario Kart
  3. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)
  4. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
  5. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training
  6. Sega Superstars Tennis
  7. Game Party
  8. PES 2008: Pro Evolution Soccer
  9. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)
  10. Wii Play

We’re still amazed at how well Mario & Sonic continues to sell. It seems that this game just won’t die, and we expect it to stay in the top 10 for awhile due to all the Beijing Olympic buzz. It’s also nice to see Sega Superstars Tennis selling well, especially since it hasn’t sold nearly as well in North America.

Sega Deals: Sega Superstars Tennis $20 at Gamestop

It’s not everyday a relatively newly released game sees such a dramatic price drop, but that’s exactly what’s happened to Sega Superstars Tennis. Gamestop is currently offering all console versions for $20 and the DS version for only $15 through May 1.

Other sites are saying poor sales have forced Gamestop into this price drop to clear inventory, but other retailers have yet to match Gamestop’s drastic move. Amazon currently has the game for $50 for next-generation consoles, and $40 and $22 for the PS2 and DS versions, respectively.

According to VG Chartz, the game has mustered about 51o,000 combined sales, which, if accurate, is a fair amount but certainly well below Sega’s estimated sales forecast.

Sumo

Earlier in the week Sega Nerds was invited to a conference call with a couple of the guys at Sumo Digital, the development house behind the upcoming SEGA Superstars Tennis. After a bit of a communications flub, we eventually had our questions answered.

Steve Lycett clued us in, and today we’re bringing you a transcript of the conversation. Enjoy!
