Sega Game Endings: Story of Thor 2
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Video. Tagged with Saturn, Sega Game Endings.
Time for another installment of Sega Game Endings. This week we look at the end of Story of Thor 2 (aka Legend of Oasis) for the Sega Saturn.
I only ever got to play for a couple of hours (if that) on this game, so I never got very far into the game. but one thing I do remember is that I actually had a lot of fun with the game. I really enjoyed the gameplay and I remember thinking the animations in the game were brilliant, and to be honest I still think they look pretty good.
So for anyone else who was never able to complete the game, or perhaps has never even touched it, here is the fast way to view the ending!
Enjoy.
Sega Commercial Saturday: The Saturn is launched into orbit
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, Video. Tagged with Saturn, Sega Commercial Saturday.
[Editor's note: Every Saturday, we’ll be taking a trip down memory lane and looking back at some of Sega’s greatest commercials in Sega Commercial Saturday. If you want to see a particular commercial featured, e-mail us suggestions to seganerds [at] gmail.com.]
There’s so much stuff going on in this group of launch commercials for the Saturn that I honestly don’t know where to begin. Back then, Sega was promoting launch and first generation games like Panzer Dragoon, Virtua Fighter, Clockwork Knight, and World Series Baseball, to name a few. But in between video footage of those games, these commercials featured hot bald chicks spouting nonsense, a doomsday Zordon clone, a biker in a tutu, Klu Klux Klan members and the Theater of the Eye … basically, the commercials encapsulate everything that made Sega so badass and quirky back then.
It’s kind of sad in a way to see how different Sega, and other game companies, have changed since these days. It seems they take themselves too seriously now and don’t have fun with their commercials like it appears they did a few generations ago.
Sure, these commercials are crazy insane, but they’re also funny, informing (in their own little way) and they get the point across that the Saturn was the most kick ass game console money could buy.
Saturn homebrew still going strong?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Retro. Tagged with Saturn.

Well I don’t know if we could call the Saturn homebrew market “strong” but there is definitely something going on out there.
Racketboy has recently interviewed one of the big players on the Saturn homebrew scene, Rockin-B, who is the organiser of C4, the annual Sega Saturn Coding Contest, amongst other things.
Anyway, the interview talks a bit about this years C4 contest, but mainly talks about the current state of Saturn homebrew development and what it’s like working on the Saturn hardware.
So if you are interested in what’s going on with the Saturn these days… some 10 years after the systems official demise from store shelves, give the interview a look. It’s a pretty interesting read actually.
Gladiators, Sega Saturns and 90’s haircuts

For many of you who don’t live in the UK, you won’t realise that one of the best saturday night television shows of the 90’s is set for a come back, Gladiators!
The UK show is similar to the US version of the show (which I have just heard also came back earlier this year!)…. but with more colourful and tighter fitting spandex, it seems. Which is what every show needs :)
Anyway, in light of the fantastic news, that I might be able to watch as people beat each other with giant cotton buds (qtips to you yanks) I decided to dig up as many old videos and pictures that I could of the original Gladiators show (UK version), and I found something even better.

CNET: Sega Saturn is the worst major console of all time
Posted by George. Filed under News. Tagged with Fan Stuff, Saturn.
Seriously, Sega Saturn the worst console of all time?! Did Don Reisinger even own a Saturn? He basically said that Saturn was to blame for Sega pulling from the hardware industry.
That isn’t fair, for the Saturn and all the great games that came out for it. This is Sega’s own fault for making bad decisions. We don’t judge consoles on corporate decisions, we judge them on games. Now that I have disagreed with this part of the article lets move on.
The sad part is, that I played the Sega Saturn more than my Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Wii combined.
Amazingly, only two Saturn games sold over 1 million copies — Virtua Fighter 2 and Grandia. Aside from those, the Saturn quickly became the cesspool of gaming.
So now it the quality of the game is determined by the number of units it sold? Seriously, so he is saying that Zack and Wiki sucks compared to Madden 08? He should have at least brought up review scores.

Just over a week ago, we announced the New Years Nerdaway, our special giveaway for the start of 2008. Featuring 4 great bundles of gaming goodness.
So far we have been inundated with scores of entries, but the contest is not yet over. No sir!
The closing date for the contest is on January 31st 2008. Which, at the time of posting this article, leaves anyone who has not yet entered, with exactly 1 week (7 days) left, to try and win these fantastic prizes.

Finally! The New Years Nerdaway!

Finally it is here! Apologies we had planned to hold it sooner, but… well I won’t fob you off with any excuses, it was held off, it’s here now. That is what matters!
Previously we had teased you with the outline of prizes we had on offer, and now I give you the rules, regulations and (most importantly) the questions, with which you will need to win.
Rules: We have 4 seperate bundles of prizes to give away. Each bundle has a question to go with it. All you need do is choose which of the prizes bundles you would like to try and win, and answer the corresponding question, and then send your answer(s) to us (contact info coming up).
You can enter to win as many of the bundles you want to, however, we will pick the winners for each bundle in order (starting with 4, ending with 1), and should your name be chosen for Bundle 4, you will not be eligeble for any of the other bundles.
So if you really want to win Bundle 1, it could be wise not to enter for all 4 bundles, in case you ‘accidentally’ win a different bundle. But, then again, if you just want to win some Sega gaming goodies, then go ahead and enter for all the bundles!
The full list of prizes and questions coming up after the jump.

NiGHTS into Dreams to hit GameTap next year
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris. Tagged with GameTap, Saturn.

While it’s safe to say we were all disappointed with the news that the NiGHTS PS2 remake wouldn’t make its way to the West, there’s a little bit of good news that has recently come out. Sometime next year, and possibly as soon as next month, the original NiGHTS into Dreams will be made available on GameTap.
GameTap actually has several Sega Saturn titles available on its service, and now gets arguably the Saturn’s crowning jewel. Now, if they just offered other great titles like Panzer Dragoon Saga, it might sway us to jump on board.
