Let’s Tap debuts with weak sales in Japan

Let’s Tap debuted selling only 5,400 copies . It is obvious that Sega is selling the game in the totally wrong market, there are no penguins in Japan!

The chart started on December 15th and ended on December 21st. Let’s Tap came out on the 18th, so if my math is correct (brings up a calculator) that is four days of sales counted. So is that bad?

Two other Wii games released by Sega on the 18th also include Sonic Unleashed and Bleach: Versus Crusade. The Bleach game did a modest 15,000 copies, while the blue blur sat a bit above Let’s tap with 5,800 copies. Solution? Add Bleach characters to both games, instant sales boost.

Why is Valkyria Chronicles selling horribly?

I wanted this game since it was announced for only Japan, we finally get it on US shores and you guys don’t buy it! Why? Its a great stocking stuffer.

The NPD group has released sales figures for November and stated that Valkyria Chronicles sold a disappointing total of 33,000 copies for the whole month. Not only that it didn’t make it to the top 100 games sold for the month. That is right, all those hip “Babyz” game and other Wii titles that end with Z’s outsold it.

Hit the jump to see my list of possible reasons why this game is performing so bad.

Sony putting money in Sega’s pocket

Sony has just launched a new rewards program in Japan for publishers. It pretty much awards and pays publishers that release titles on the Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and PSP that sell over a certain number of copies. Could also be for Playstation Network games, but I doubt any have sold more than 500,000 copies in Japan.

The three prize awards are

The only Sega title to win this so far is Phantasy Star Portable, which won the Gold Prize Award. The prizes are given out based on Japan sales only, not world wide. Hit the jump to see the other games on the list.

Sega Superstars Tennis has now reached over a million copies sold world wide! If you didn’t find something to like in Sega Superstars Tennis, you are not a Sega fan! This game was a overdose of Sega love, sweet sensual Sega love.

This number comes from VGchartz, so it could be well off.  Something to add, the game hasn’t been released in Japan yet! Not that I think it would do that great there anyway.

Hopefully the game has profited enough and Sumo Digital will be allowed to make a new Sega Superstars game. Maybe a fighting game or a collection of minigames not involving tennis. That was the best part of Sega Superstars Tennis, the minigames. Though I’m sure all you guys have better suggestions, right?

However it may not all be as great as it sounds.

Sonic surpasses 8 million downloads on mobile phones

sonicjumpscreen3.gifI’m going to be totally honest, I don’t play cell phone games. Why not? Because they control like crap. But apparently other Sega Nerds don’t seem to mind! Sonic has been a top seller since it launched in 2006 on Verizon’s V-Cast. The game was launched exclusively for V-Cast, but is now available to download from other carriers. The 8 million download figure combines both North American and Europe sales, so it’s not worldwide.

Sega has announced that it will build on the Sonic franchise by adding some more mobile phone Sonic games. The games are Sonic at the Olympic Games, Sonic Spinball and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
