Rumour: Sonic Unleashed to feature downloadable content?

According to the guys over at TheSonicStadium, Sonic Unleashed will feature downloadable content.  The news came about when they stumbled across an image showing the back cover of the Xbox 360 version, on the Woolworths website.

Now, it’s not that I don’t trust TSS, (because I do trust them), but I have put this down as a rumour for now for a couple of reasons.

Sega vs Capcom

According to the blog, Protodude, Sega is set to announce a new fighter cross over game with Capcom.  The information was given out by an anonymous source:

Earlier today, I received word from an anonymous source that both Capcom and SEGA are set to unveil a cross over title during the Tokyo Game Show festivities dubbed, “SEGA vs. Capcom: Great Clash Generation.”The game is described as a “hybrid RPG-fighting game” coming out on the Nintendo DS in Q1 2009 with a “likely” PSP port later in the new year.

The Sega Vision is real, apparently

Sega Vision

As you all know, just yesterday we reported on a rumour which suggested that Sega would be making a portable media device (PMP), and needless to say we were more than a little sceptical about it.

It had a very dodgy video, it was announced exculsively on a random tech site (when TGS is just around the corner), and the supposed size of the device sounds ridiculously small - so small that surely no one would want to use it.  But according to rpgsite.net it is real!

Rpgsite contacted Sega America last night and were given this response:

“The Sega Vision is a real device, a spokesperson said, “But it is not intended as a re-entry to the gaming hardware market or a rival to Sony or Nintendo’s systems.”

Rumour: Sega to release new handheld?

We are always hearing rumours and random reports suggesting that Sega is planning to move back into the hardware business, but this is one which seems to have more credence than most.

However, while we have a trailer and some pictures which (apparently) show off the device, we are still treating it as a rumour, until we have heard from Sega on the matter.  Annoyingly the news broke just after the Sega Europe offices closed shop for the weekend.

According to the website, Register Hardware, who first broke the story, Sega is set to release the new handheld dubbed the ”Sega Vision,” early 2009.

More details and speculation after the break.

Rumour: Sega trademarks new IP

Whirlwind Stories

According to German website, Gamefront, Sega Japan has filed a patent out on a new IP, Whirlwind Stories.

I’m putting it down as a rumour for now, as Gamefront hasn’t actually given a source, and I can’t seem to find any other sites with the same story.  But Gamefront is pretty reliable, and I don’t doubt that it will turn out to be real.

All that is known about the new game is the name, which is probably a ‘working title’ and might change in due course.  The real question is, just what type of game will Whirlwind Stories be?  And on what system?

Start your speculation theories, now.

Rumour: Kuju to make the new Jet set Radio game?

Professor K

It has come to our attention that in 2006 Kuju tried to pitch an idea for a new Jet Set Radio title.  Unfortunately it seems that the idea was rejected at the time.  But perhaps Sega has had a change of hearts, what with rumours that a new Jet Set Radio could be on it’s way, possibly for the Wii.

The ‘evidence’ (let’s call it that) came to light, when we were tipped off about some artwork, drawn by Cory “The Rey” Lewis, which was used in the original pitch back in 2006.  The artwork shows off a few of the main characters, plus some rival gangs - including a brand new gang, designed by Cory.

Artwork and more info after the break.

Rumour: Sega sign a deal with ATI to use DirectX 10.1 in upcoming game?

DirectX

I’m filing this down as a rumour, because I really can’t find much information about this anywhere, but I thought it might interest some of the more technical minded bodies here.

On the Rage3D boards (unofficial ATI community boards) one member, Dave Baumann, (who I believe works for ATI), posted this little slip of information:

“Something that hasn’t been noted yet is that EA and SEGA are signed on with us for DX10.1 titles, we’ve also signed a fairly major deal with Blizzard.”

What does this mean?   Well in all honesty I wouldn’t like to say for certain, as I’m not so clued up on the whole DirectX or graphics cards talk, these days.

One thing it will mean is that Sega is looking to the future, with the (slightly) more advanced abilities this version of DirectX offers developers.  Which is nice.

More wild theories and speculations on this topic, by yours truly, after the break.

Shenmue III rumours

It seems that just before a major gaming expo, rumours of some of Sega’s classic great roll out from forums and sites. You get the odd, “Skies of Arcadia 2“, maybe a little “NiGHTS coming to 360/PS3″ - but always you hear “Shenmue III going to be announced at this years *insert reputable exhibition here*”

Well this summer is no different. We are about 2 months away from E3 2008 and, low and behold, rumours of Shenmue III are springing up once again! As Play.tm report;

Rumour: Sega testing new arcade racing game?

Hummer Extreme

The chaps over at Arcade Heroes have information on a possible new Sega arcade racing IP. About the only information known about the game right now is that it is based on racing Hummers (or Humvees if you aren’t in the US Army or a rapper), the game is currently being (or has been) tested in the US, at GameWorks in Chicago and the game’s name is “Hummer Extreme” - though that could be a working title.

I have filed this under “rumour” for now, as so little is known about the game. Plus it is always safer to call it a rumour until Sega give out an official confirmation ;) - But the guys at Arcade Heroes are pretty reliable, so I would imagine this news to be true, depending on how good their source is of course.

So anybody in Chicago near a GameWorks, should head out right now. Take pictures, take video, take the whole damn cabinet if you have to! We want proof!
