Wii Samba

It was quite a few months back that we reported on the mumblings, that there could be a new version of Samba De Amigo, coming for the Wii.  Though those ‘mumblings,’  were strongly believed to be rumours, more recent news has arisen to possibly cause the flames, of this rumour, to burn a little brighter.

It seems that written on a recent release list for upcoming Nintendo Wii games, US based store, Gamestop put out, Samba De Amigo is coming to the Wii.  Not only is the game listed, but it has also been given a release date and a pricing!

According to the release list the game is due out, Feb 5th 2008, and will cost $49.99.  But, before we all get too excited, and start breaking open our piggy-banks, to count the change, we should all remember that even though a game is listed by a store, it is not definitely coming out.

Viking Battle of Asgard at retail!

Viking: Battle of Asgard

So Game Stop are now taking orders for Viking: Battle of Asgard.. Who’s excited? Yeah, I know what your thinking. It seems that SEGA of America have Vikings up there sleeves!

‘Whats this all about then?’ I hear you ask. A game titled ‘Viking: Battle of Asgard,’ which seems to be an action game, for both Xbox360 and PS3, is being developed and published by Sega of America, has shown up on Game Stops website for pre order.

With no other info about this game, this is the first news of such a game Sega Nerds has heard about, which makes me wonder whether it’s an error on Game Stops part. Only time will tell.

But if this is anything to go by, we will have pesky Vikings plundering and raping our Xbox 360s soon. Those damn Danes rape everything!

What we can tell from the title?  Well I imagine this game to be something along the lines of God of War, as the games sub-title, ‘battle of Asgard,’ indicates that the battle will take place with in Asgard - which just so happens to be the home of the mythological Norse gods which include Odin, Thor and Loki.

We’ll have more info on this one for you soon! (Hopefully)

Rumour: Sega to release DS RPG in the US

Mysterious Dungeon

Well, we just reported on a collaboration between Sega and Chunsoft, with their horror ’sound novel’ for the PS3.  But the news between the two companies is not quite over it seems.

It appears that Sega will be translating the Chunsoft RPG, Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer, for the Ninteno DS, and sending to the western world.  The game is developed by Chunsoft and published by Sega, in Japan, but according to US online store, EBGames, the game is set to be developed and published by Sega of America.

Right now we are taking the news with a pinch of salt, as EBGames doesn’t really have any details for the game on the site, other than it is set for an early 2008 release.

Other reasons for us to query this news, would be that, some online stores, do put up details of games before they are announced, many of which never make it to the store.  Also, one main reason for doubt, would be that Chunsoft games very rarely see the light of day in the western world, and previous Mysterious Dungeon titles (N64 and GameBoy) were Japan only, so if this game does indeed make western shores, it could be pretty big news.

Oh, is this a rumor? Oddly enough, Takashi Yuda has said they were working on a sequel to Sonic Riders for the 360 and PS3. Then Yuda said on Nintendo Power that he could see the Wii as the console to bring Sonic Riders to the next Dimension.

But its always hard to know if a SEGA games will ever come out or not. . Remember Vectorman PS2 and Fifth Phantom Saga? According to Gamestop, the game ships on February 1st, 2008.

New Sega racer in the works?

R-Tuned Ultimate Street Racing

Reports from various sites, and our very own Sega Nerd forums, indicate the coming of a new racing IP from Sega.

So far, about the only thing we know for sure, is the games title, or at least working title - R-Tuned Ultimate Street Racing.

That is literally all we know, plus the (above) logo for the game.  So far, no platform has been confirmed, at a guess it could be an aracde game, but I wouldn’t put a console release out of the question.

Also the studio developing the game is not known.  Many are guessing that Sega Racing Studio (the UK-based studio, behind the upcoming Sega Rally game) could be behind it - well they are meant to focus on racing games, hence the studio’s name.  But the game ‘details’, were originally leaked from the American Trademark Office.  So it could quite easily be a US-based studio, behind the development.

Anyway, we now have yet another Sega title, to look out for in the near future!  I honestly don’t think I have known a developer, to be involved in so many projects, at the same time - let’s hope the quality can stay high!

TGS 2007 Sega lineup, definitely fake

TGS 2007 Fake LineupOk, ok now.  At Sega Nerds, we don’t like to boast about things we know, but in this case I am proud that we stuck to our guns.  If you recall a few days ago, we posted up the rumour regarding Segas line up of games, for this years Tokyo Games Show (aka TGS).

Our article clearly stated our immediate doubts about the lineup, which included games such as; Shenmue III, Samba De Amigo for the PSP, a Sonic RPG for the 360 and PS3 (when we should all know that the only reported Sonic RPG is for the DS) and other random ones like Virtua Fighter Kids for the Wii…. the list goes on.

In a nutshell we took the whole thing with a pinch of salt, and warned you that it was no doubt a fake.  However, many other sites, bigger sites - I shall not name, names (as we can all make mistakes) - took the news as being solid.  The fact that they had completely random titles on the list, plus games that Sega have already released; Alien Syndrome, After Burner Black Falcon (that was months ago!),  should really have been a signal, for all to question the list.

No doubt some of you wonderful Nerds had been lying at night, wide-eyed, with fingers and toes crossed, praying that the list would be true, and that Sega had finally decided to release Shenmue III.  Well I’m sorry to say it, but ‘we told you so’.

Rumored Sega TGS 2007 lineup too good to be true

One thing I love about game expos is the ridiculous rumors that go flying around about what will be revealed and games shown. Of course, many rumors are completely false, but it helps build excitement for the upcoming show.

A user at the Korean game site Ruliweb.com has posted what appears to be Sega’s TGS 2007 lineup. The first portion of the list is filled with games that Sega’s already announced, so there are no surprises there, but oh boy, perusing through the latter portion will really get a Sega Nerd’s blood flowing.

Steinberg explains some things… plus new Shadow?

Scott Steinberg talksSega of America Vice President of marketing, Scott Steinberg, recently spoke to NextGen.biz, about a few topics of conversation many Sega Nerds, and (indeed) gamers, have on their mind.

Scott, spoke about some his ‘controversial’ commentsregarding Nintendo’s, highly successful, Wii.  He did try to explain his comments a day or two after his first set of words dropped out of his mouth, though that still left many Wii fans a bit miffed.  So Scott has tried to re-emphasise his exact intentions and feelings, towards the 3 home consoles.

“Are we placing bets [on one particular platform]? No one can tell right now who’ll ‘win.’ It’s still too early. All three consoles have got the right materials for success. That alchemy is there across all three different platforms. I guess that’s being defined a bit differently with Nintendo, but they definitely have their own consumer-oriented track, which we think is great. So I think from a third-party publisher’s standpoint it’s not wise to make bets right now that don’t include all three consoles.”

NextGen, kindly remind us, that right now Sega does, indeed, appear to be backing all platforms (fairly) evenly, with many games being released on the PS3, 360, PC and several big titles (Mario and Sonic, Nightsanyone?) coming to the Wii, this year.

Next topic on the agenda was fairly recent announcement that brought much joy to Xbox 360 owners everywhere, but left a somewhat bitter taste in PS3 fans.  Yes, that’s right, when Sega announced that Virtua Fighter 5 would have full online play for the Xbox 360, something the team had previously deemed impossible, due to ‘unacceptable’ lag, as seen in online fighters.

Possible NiGHTS box art revealed

070728nig.jpgIf you’re like us Sega Nerds, you can’t wait for even the slightest news about NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, and it seems that GameCrazy can’t either as the videogame rental chain has posted up the possible box art for the game.

But is it the official cover? I have not seen this NiGHTS photo before, so as far as I know it looks legit. The only thing that throws me off is the Rating Pending symbol. However, it’s possible this was sent out by Sega as a place holder for now.

Here are some interesting things I found in the cover. First of all the Wi-Fi logo. Do games that use the 24 Connect feature and Forecast channel get the Wi-Fi logo?

The cover deplicts the jester in Bellbridge (the town the two kids are from). You can tell it’s Bellbridge cause of the clock tower in the back that resembles the one in London. Does this mean that the Jester leaves the dream world or is it just box art?

Rumour Mill: Rome:Total War 2, about to invade?

 Rome: Total War 2 Rumour

Kris Graft, one of the lucky chaps over at NextGen.biz, was able to interview Scott Steinberg, during this years E3.  While the interview has not been posted up yet, Kris has mentioned some of the topics on conversation that day.

During the interview, Scott, (apparently), mentions a follow up to Rome: Total War.

“…We’ve got the Creative Assembly guys doing Medieval and the follow along to Rome which we haven’t announced yet.”

As far as rumours go, that sounds pretty solid to me.  Of course, (as Kris points out), this could be either a brand new ‘Rome’ game, making it Rome: Total War 2.  Or it could be a (rather late) expansion pack for the original title, which was released in 2004, before Sega had bought Creative Assembly.

While I haven’t really played much of the Total War series, what I have played, definitely impressed me, and the idea of a new Rome: Total War title excites me.

It will also be interesting to see if Sega will opt to possibly make a console version of the game, and try for some cross-platform online gaming, like they are with their (other) upcoming RTS, Universe at War.

Hopefully we shall hear more of this, very soon.  In the mean time, be sure to check the official Total War site, for more information on the franchise.
