Oh bollocks…
Sonic Adventure rocked, so obviously Sonic Team would take the experience gleaned from it about 3D level design and apply that toward even better sequels right?
Right?
If only, my friends. If only. Join us for part 3 of 3 , in which we look at everything that came after Sonic Adventure. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Right, so, Sonic on the Saturn? Not so great. Some cool stuff sprinkled here and there, to be sure. But any groundbreaking titles?

Can’t you feel the sunshine?
Outstanding musical scores by Richard Jacques aside, not so much. But on the Dreamcast? Well that, my friends, is a different story…

The place: countless Hollywood Videos across America. The time: 1999, a few months before the Dreamcast’s launch. The, um, thing: a chance to rent and play Sega’s newest console along with Sonic’s newest game, catapulting him into 3d a full generation after his Italian rival. Ah, Dreamcast.
As fond reminisces often do, today’s weighty discussion begins, and ostensibly ends, with you. Why did you leave us so soon? Why!? WHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?
*ahem*
Right, well, with that out of the way let’s dig into the first of a very special three part Re-view.

Wouldn’t you like to know!
Hudson here, telling you to sit up and take note this weekend for a very special Retro Re-View (it wasn’t just one time thing, honest).
I’ll be taking a look at what it takes to make the Sonic experience translate well into the third dimension, as well as what it takes to utterly screw it up (hint: bottomless pits!). I’ll also be naming the stage I think exemplifies the experience par excellance, and going into why I’m right in excruciating detail.
Please anticipate it!!
Retro Re-View: Panzer Dragoon Saga

Hudson here, happy to introduce what will hopefully be a continuing feature here at Sega Nerds: the retro Re-View. Not a review, mind. A Re-View. The hyphen, dear readers, makes all the difference.
In Re-Views, we here at Sega Nerds will plumb the dusty depths of our Sega game collections to bring to light once again the classics we think worthy of another look by both you and the industry at large. We will look closely at the myriad features that made said games a delight to play and put Sega on the map as a scrappy (huge, multinational) company known for innovation and straight-up fun in its games. To kick off this retro Re-Viewery we will be visiting a classic near (and dear!) to my own gaming heart, Panzer Dragoon Saga.
