Hands On: Phantasy Star Zero - offline mode
Posted by George. Filed under George, Japan, Nintendo DS, Preview. Tagged with Hands on, Phantasy Star Zero, Preview.

I started playing Japanese version of Phantasy Star Zero the other day and thought I’d post some of my impressions here on Sega Nerds. I can’t really talk about the story, due to not knowing Japanese, so this isn’t really a review, even if it is the retail product.
This hands on is only on the single player game, I’ll do a online impression in a few days, so sit tight for that.
Phantasy Star Zero gets cross over weapons

It seems that Sega has posted some new weapons for the upcoming Phantasy Star Zero.
The new weapons come from other Sega games . You get Valiant from Blazer Drive, Selvaria’s Spear from Valkyria Chronicles, the Gunsword Blade Cannon from Shining Wind, and Miku’s Green Onion from fan favorite Project Diva.
They are called “Guest Cards”, there are four in total. You can only use the weapons on certain story missions. On the cards are special codes that you input on the official site, giving you the weapons.

TGS 08: Sega dominates Edge’s top 20 games at TGS

Sega came into TGS to do one thing, kick ass. If you see their line up, its a pretty beefy , Edge even agrees. They posted a list of the top 20 games at TGS and Sega had more games on the list than any other publisher. When was the last time you saw so many Sega games make a list?
Here are the games that made the list (only Sega games posted):
- 20. Seventh Dragon
- 19. Infinite Space
- 14. Phantasy Star 0
- 12. Sonic UnleashedÂ
- 10. Let’s TapÂ
- 05. Bleach Versus Crusade
- 02. Yakuza 3
- Â [full list!]
Surprises? Mine was that Bleach: Versus Crusade broke into the top 5 and that Bayonetta wasn’t mentioned. I can see Yakuza 3 getting second to Resident Evil 5, due to the fact that Resident Evil 5 playable. What do you guys think?
TGS 08: Phantasy Star 0 gameplay

The lucky guys at Gamekyo have managed to get some hands-on time with Phantasy Star 0 (Zero) at TGS. So far the game looks pretty much as I expected, like a handheld version of Phantasy Star Online.
Visually the game looks fairly good - you have to remember that this is a DS title - so I wouldn’t expect the game to get much better than this on the DS, when using full 3D visuals.
While the animation of the characters moving looks kind of funny (more like skipping than running), the boss does look quite cool. Reminds me of the first boss from PSO, ahh memories…

If you haven’t seen Sega’s full TGS line up, then here it is. It appears that Sega decided not to put Prope’s game, apparently the system it will appear on is still a secret (cough Wii cough).

Being a big fan of free stuff, I could not help post the (so far) confirmed list of free Sega swag that will be given away at TGS.

Phantasy Star Zero debut trailer
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Japan, Nathan, News, Nintendo DS. Tagged with Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe, Phantasy Star Zero.
GameTrailers has the first trailer for Sega’s latest entry in the Phantasy Star series of multiplayer RPGs: Phantasy Star Zero for the Nintendo DS. We first heard about this game last month from Famitsu, and now we can finally see it in action.
The art style looks similar to the previous Phantasy Star Online, Universe and Portable games, except all the playable characters look a lot younger. Almost like children. In fact, the characters in the game itself also look similarly young, and Phantasy Star Zero resultantly looks like a cross between Phantasy Star Universe and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to you. (It’s bad.)
The game looks like it doesn’t stray far from the established mechanics of slash/shoot/run, with support for four players, probably locally and online. We’ll have to wait and see if this turns out as gimped as I imagine a game like this on the DS would be, or if Sega can somehow pull a full-fledged Phantasy Star multiplayer game out of their hat.

New Phantasy Star Zero screenshots and info
Posted by George. Filed under George, Nintendo DS. Tagged with Doing it right, Phantasy Star Zero, Screenshots, Wi-Fi.

When we first posted about Phantasy Star Zero earlier this week, we bragged about how you can play over Wifi. But scans didn’t do justice to the games graphics. Here are some direct screen caps, thanks to the new official site.
They also posted some new info, like the fact you will be able to create your own character! I can’t wait to make my albino robot named G. There will be 3 races and 14 classes. Looks like its Human, Newman, and Android as races. The game will take place on a planet and its moon (though they haven’t told us their names yet).
Rappies make their awesome return in this game, seen in one of the screenshots. We also see Dylon City, that looks like it will act as a port for buying, trading, and that sort of the thing.

Phantasy Star Zero on DS with online mode!
Posted by George. Filed under George, Nintendo DS. Tagged with Doing it right, Phantasy Star Zero, Wi-Fi.
Check out Sega’s new announcement in this months Famitsu. You are possibly thinking, this is going to be a crippled port of Phantasy Star Universe on the DS. But it’s not, it’s all new. Even the bubble system is. It will be black and white to look like a manga. It looks awesome.
Character supervisor for this game will be Toshiyuki Oka.
You will be able to play via Wifi, connecting to various modes and chatting with bubbles. Even send illustrations, making possibilities infinite (or so they say).
Stay tuned for more info as it hits the internet.
