Sega cut down 360 PSU expansion
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, PC, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Downloads, Phantasy Star Universe.

It seems Sega will be releasing a stripped down version of PSU: Ambition of Illuminus for the Xbox 360, while the PC and PS2 will be receiving the full version.
The Xbox 360 version, it seems, will no longer feature an offline, single player mode, and will only contain the online portion of the game.
For some people, this will not be a big deal, eversince PSU is designed to be an online game first and foremost, and the offline modes are really just an added bonus. However, I’m sure many Xbox 360 owners will be fairly annoyed by this news. I, for one, am not a big fan of PSUs online play, but I actually really enjoyed the single player, offline part of the game.
Sega have not specified why the Xbox 360 no longer has the single player story, but it could be something to do with the game’s size. The 360 version is download only, and takes up some 1.75 gigs of harddrive. If you look at the specs for the PC version, you will see that it requires some 9.0 gigs (!!) of harddrive space.
I can understand Sega removing the single player, because of space issues, but I would rather they release two versions of the game - one for download only, (as it is now), and one on DVD, with the single player and multiplayer modes. That way, those that only want it for online play, can buy the download, and those of us who thought PSU’s online sucked, but enjoyed the single player story, can buy the complete version.
Phantasy Star Universe expansion details released

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Phantasy Star Universe expansion pack Ambition of the Illuminus has finally been dated for America and Europe.
For PC and PlayStation 2, the game will be available on Nov. 20 in North America, and Jan. 25 2008 in Europe, at around $40 USD. The coolest news is the expansion won’t even require the original PSU game, so those interested that don’t want to buy two separate games can immediately jump in to the new content!
For Xbox 360, the game will be available as an Xbox Live download only on Nov. 20 in North America and Europe, for 1600 points ($20). 1.75 GB of hard drive space and the original PSU disk are required.
The expansion boasts expanded character customization, new lobbies and a casino, new weapons and types, new combat abilities and increased class level caps, and new missions and enemies. Quite the robust package!
You can pre-order AotI at most major game retailers. If you missed out on the PSU action previously and want to get a head start now, the PC version is only $10 at Amazon.
While I stopped playing PSU in February and had many complaints with the game, Sega has actually fixed most of the issues in my absence. I have recently returned to PSU thanks to some online friends, and I’m having a blast yet again. I’m definitely looking forward to the expansion come November!
New PSU Battle Tactics comparison video
Posted by George. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, PC, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Phantasy Star Universe.

Sega of Japan has posted a new comparison video showing off the new battle tactics, such as the new “Just Attack,” “Just Counter,” and “Evasion” systems.
This is great for all the whiners. I did enjoy Phantasy Star Universe for the most part, but thought they could have added more of everything. It seems that this expansion will deliver in my point of view.
The reason that I couldn’t play Phantasy Star Universe for an extended period of time was because it felt like I was just pressing A and healing. I hope these new tactics make the game more involving.
Make sure to pick up your own copy of Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus at the end of November (September 30th for people who are importing from Japan).

PSU: Recruiting veteran Guardians, to help train noobs. Plus new limited edition weapon
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, PC, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Downloads, Phantasy Star Universe.
First up, with the latest Phantasy Star Universe updates, we have the new ‘Sidekick Saturdays’ scheme. The basic idea of this, is to get veteran Guardians (players) to help show any new players around, and show them how to fight, how to make new weapons etc… All the stuff a beginner gets confused with.
We’re calling on veteran GUARDIANS to take this opportunity to help train the next generation of heroes by seeking out beginning players and teaching them some tips and tricks for running missions and fighting monsters.
But why should you help out some snotty, little n00b? Well for one thing, it’s just the decent thing to do. Secondly, for anyone who particpates with Sidekick Saturdays, you will receive a limited edition Tails statue.
Although we encourage this level of commitment, all players who enter the game anytime Saturday September 1st will be rewarded with a Tails Statue room decoration later in the month for their participation in this event.
If that doesn’t seem enough for you, perhaps this short list will help you make up your mind.
Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus dated?

GameSpot has updated its Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus game page (PC version) with a release date: November 20, 2007. Just in time for winter break.
Yeah, it might not be real or final, but it’s better than “Q4 2007.” Let’s hope the game does ship before the end of the year.
I’ll definitely be picking this one up, since I had such a great time playing the original with friends. If you’re one of those people that bitches endlessly about how you liked PSO better you’re probably blind, dumb and friendless. And possibly sterile.
New Phantasy Star Universe expansion details

Sounds like SEGA is slowly giving people tiny bits of info in Japan to hype up the new expansion. EspioKaos from PSO-world, has posted new Phantasy Star Universe Ambition of the Illuminus info he got from the Japanese magazine ‘Dengeki PlayStation!’. I have to say, some of these new features got me excited.
- New lobby called ‘Village’. It’s said to be a oriental type village surrounded by bamboo thickets.
- New lobby called ‘Gravesite’. I use the word ‘new’ loosely on this one. This lobby is based on the level where you fight Dark Falz in PSO. You know the place that is pretty with flowers, before the spooky ghost faces appear.
- New Item Delivery has been added, you can now send items from your personal Nanotransformer to your common box in your room from mid-point lobbies. You will have to pay a charge though.
Rappy strikes back in Phantasy Star Universe expansion
Posted by George. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, PC, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Phantasy Star Universe.
Seems that Sega has decided to bring back Rappy as a regular enemy in Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus. The Rappy was in the regular game, but as a rare enemy. I myself ran into it a few times.
Sega has released this CGI detailed images of the new rappy designs. Look at that yellow one with pink eye. Also for comparison sakes, I uploaded a photo of a in game screen shot.
When you beat the rappy it won’t run away. This time it will dig a hole and crawl in. Like PSO and PSU, the game will feature holiday Rappys.
According to IGN, the game will have the Rappy of Rappys himself. Could this be King Rappy or Blue Rappy?
Well, Sonic Team has proclaimed the Rappy a ‘Franchise Monster’. To join the ranks of Slime from Dragon Quest and Cactuar from Final Fantasy.

PSU demo returns to XBL this weekend, get free ‘handgun’
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, Microsoft Xbox 360, North America. Tagged with Phantasy Star Universe.

For the 6.6 billion people on Earth who don’t play Phantasy Star Universe, here’s your chance to experience its greatness as Sega’s putting the demo back on Xbox Live Aug. 4th and 5th for users with a Gold account.
To make the deal a bit better, anyone who logs in to play and purchases a Guardians License by Aug. 10 will receive the limited edition REAL HANDGUN. Wow, it really is a handgun!
I know you people who are already PSU addicts are wondering why you can’t get in on the action, too, right? Well, all you have to do is download the demo, play it, and you too will receive the handgun. Only one handgun will be awarded per Gamertag and Guardians License.
I haven’t seen the stats on the REAL HANDGUN, but it appears you can do more than just shoot stuff with it, if you know what I mean.
New Phantasy Star Universe expansion in the works?
Posted by George. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, News, PC, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Phantasy Star Universe, Rumor Mill, Unreleased.

Sega updated its Japanese website for Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus by adding a new video full of spoilers, a video that recaps the first game and a commercial.
If you notice the site shows a new game title - Phantom of Arkgald. Is this the title for the next expansion? I dunno; I mean the new expansion hasn’t come out anywhere in the world and Sonic Team is already going to the next one. Too early?
What I’m waiting to see is if it’s going to be a card game, like Phantasy Star Online Episode III Card Revolution on the Gamecube.

Phantasy Star Universe expansion cover art released

Phantasy Star Universe is a mixed bag here at Sega Nerds, but we can all agree that the game needs more content. The new expansion Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus is aiming to fix the lack of content and problems players had with the game. The game will add some neat features like a full casino; this is bad because I love to gamble and it’s bad enough that I’m always broke in the game.
The game will be released later this fall for retail on PlayStation 2 and PC. As confirmed by the Sega Press Release, the Xbox 360 version will be a download via the Xbox Live Marketplace.
You will need to own the original game to play the expansion. Getting the game shouldn’t be a problem since it’s been on sale for really cheap at Amazon several times. Also, nothing has been released about a double pack with both games in one package.
The Japanese release date is September 27, 2007.
