Sega will be holding a Phantasy Star Portable launch event tomorrow (March 6th) in all versions of Phantasy Star Universe. In the event you will have to help Vivienne, who is a lead story character for Phantasy Star Portable. So hang around Clyez City on March 6th.
She will ask you for your help to hunt down a suspected terrorist by the name of Helga Neumann and give you (and your party) clues as you search.
What do you get for doing this? You get two exclusive prizes: A Real hand gun + and a Moatoob collectible that happens to be a room item. You can invite someone over to see it in your room, maybe slip into something more comfy?
The event will take place throughout the day, even better, Sega posted what time they will take place, so hit the jump to see that!

The video on top is the launch trailer for Sonic and the Black Knight. Note, that Sega usually post shipping dates as release dates, so some stores won’t get the games for another day.
So what games are you guys buying?
Phantasy Star Portable English demo on PSN
Posted by George. Filed under George, North America, Sony PSP. Tagged with Demo, Phantasy Star Portable, PSN.

Phantasy Star Portable demo hit PSN last night, what a surprise. I wasn’t really expecting it, I was actually on to try Killzone 2. If you are interested in downloading it make sure you have 272 MB of free space on your memory stick.
“Check out the long awaited demo of Phantasy Star Portable and experience what others have been enjoying for years. Up to four friends will team up to unravel the exclusive new storyline that picks up where Phantasy Star Universe ends and before the start of PSU: Ambition of the Illuminus.”
The demo is rated E for everyone. Yes that means your grandma can play it too.

Phantasy Star Portable English trailer

Sega has released a new English trailer for the upcoming Western release of the PSP exclusive, Phantasy Star Portable.
The game appears to be pretty much a straight port of the Japanese version of the game, which means no online multiplayer. Boo. But all is not lost, as you can still get some of that multiplayer magic with up to three of your friends via wireless.
Also the trailer does mention “exclusive content” - but there is a chance that they meant it’s exclusive over the big console version of the game Phantasy Star Universe, as they are meant to be set in the same galaxy/universe place and Portable continues where Universe left off.
Or alternatively the exclusive content is some new stuff over the Japanese version, but it will most likely be small things, like new weapons or clothes… or haircuts.
Sony putting money in Sega’s pocket
Posted by George. Filed under George, Sony PSP, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with getting paid, gold star, Phantasy Star Portable, rewards, Sales.

Sony has just launched a new rewards program in Japan for publishers. It pretty much awards and pays publishers that release titles on the Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and PSP that sell over a certain number of copies. Could also be for Playstation Network games, but I doubt any have sold more than 500,000 copies in Japan.
The three prize awards are
- Gold Prize Awards - Games that sell between 500,000-1,000,000. Publisher gets a fat check of ¥500,000 ($5,362 USD)
- Platinum Awards - Game that sells between 1,000,000 and 2,000,000. Not sure what kind of money a publisher gets for this, since no one has won this award yet. But it should be around $10,000 USD.
- Double Platinum Awards - Games that sell between 2,000,000 - 3,000,000 copies. The publisher gets a fatter check of ¥2,000,000 (21,449 USD)
The only Sega title to win this so far is Phantasy Star Portable, which won the Gold Prize Award. The prizes are given out based on Japan sales only, not world wide. Hit the jump to see the other games on the list.
Phantasy Star Portable slashing its way into the US in March
Posted by George. Filed under George, News, North America, Sony PSP. Tagged with Phantasy Star Portable, Release Date.
Phantasy Star Portable will be coming out on March 15th 2009, according to 1up. If you haven’t kept up with this title, it takes place after the fan hated Phantasy Star Universe. The game has sold very well in Japan, but I doubt it will pull in big numbers here. We will have to wait and see.
Phantasy Star Portable will not feature online play, only ad hoc. I wish they’d add an online mode! If the Nintendo DS can manage, why not PSP?

Phantasy Star Portable #1 in Japan for second week
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Japan, Nathan, News, Sony PSP. Tagged with Phantasy Star Portable.
Phantasy Star Portable, debuted last week at #1 in Japan at 342,000 copies sold. This week it managed to stay at the top of the list, beating out Nintendo’s new Fire Emblem for DS by a narrow 3,000 copies at another 148,000 copies.
This brings PSP’s sales total close to half a million copies already. However, there’s still no word on a domestic release for the game.
Sega had another game in the top 10 this week with Sangokushi Taisen Ten, which I know absolutely nothing about.
01. Phantasy Star Universe Portable (Sega, PSP) 148,000 / 490,000
02. Fire Emblem (Nintendo, DS) 145,000 / NEW
03. Rhythm Heaven Gold (Nintendo, DS) - 130,000 / 343,000

Phantasy Star Portable Japanese demo

I don’t know Japanese, but I don’t think you need to know any to play through this demo. It will give you a hint of what the full game will be and see if its worth importing. So give it a download!
How to install:
1. Download [Size: 297mb] the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy ULJM91014 folder into the GAME directory. Make sure there are no sub-directories in this folder.

Transfer your PSU characters to Phantasy Star Portable [Update]
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, Japan, PC, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star Portable.
While we’re all disappointed Phantasy Star Portable doesn’t have a true online mode like its console brethren, it will apparently allow you to go online to transfer your PS2/PC Phantasy Star Universe characters into the game, where they will then become fully playable in PSP.
This is a really smart move so players don’t have to start all the way over, but there is one small catch – there is a level cap of 20 and you can only transfer over equipped items and only 10,000 meseta, according to Siliconera.
Additionally, Sega will release downloadable missions for the PS2 and PC versions of PSU: Ambition of Illuminus where players work alongside Vivian, a character in Phantasy Star Portable. Sega hasn’t said if these features will come to the Xbox 360 version.
[Update: It seems there was a mixup in the translation, and you can't carry over equipped weapons. Thanks for the correction, Espiokaos.]
