Sega has announced a new collection of classic Sega games will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 early next year.
The collection will feature over 40 classic Mega Drive games, plus bonus Master System titles, all updated in HD, and even more unlockable features.

DIY Sega Neptune
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Video. Tagged with Fan Stuff, Genesis, MegaDrive, Neptune.
To help mark the 20th anniversary of the Megadrive, one plucky NeoGaffer decided to spruce up his Megadrive (well Genesis in this case), by manufacturing his own Neptune.
The Sega Neptune never officially got off the ground. The idea was to make a combined Megadrive/Genesis and 32X games machine. But, by the time the prototypes were ready, the Saturn was due to be launched and so, wanting to back their new, more powerful system, Sega scrapped the Neptune altogether.
As you can see from the above video, this fan-built system actually works, and it looks pretty decent. He starts by playing the Genesis version of Earthworm Jim and then swaps the cartridge for the 32X version of Star Wars Arcade. Good work.
If you want to see more on how he built it, then check the NeoGaf forums here.

Happy 20th Mr. Megadrive!
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Japan, News, Retro. Tagged with Genesis, MegaDrive.

That’s right, today marks the 20th anniversary of the magnificent Megadrive! Most specifically it marks the date the console was launched in Japan (rather than the later US and European launches), October 29th 1988.
Shining Force II and Earthworm Jim hit the EU Virtual Console
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo Wii, Retro, Virtual Console. Tagged with Genesis, MegaDrive, Shining Force II.

From today Sega/Nintendo has released two Megadrive classics onto the European Virtual Console. Joining the ranks of retro titles is Shining Force II and Earthworm Jim.
Earthworm Jim was one of my favourite platformers back in the day, with the quirky humour and fun gameplay (man I hope it’s stood the test of time).
Shining Force II is one game I have been dying to get my hands on for some time. I’m a pretty big fan of the Shining franchise, and some people have told me that Shining Force II is their all time favourite of the bunch. So I will be very excited to finally play it.
Both titles will be going for the standard 800 Wii Points and well worth it for a copy of Shining Force II - which can be seen to sell for well over £60 on eBay. No word on US releases of these games, but no doubt they will travel across the Atlanic soon enough.
Legend of Wukong: New Mega Drive/Genesis RPG
Posted by George. Filed under Europe, George, North America, Retro. Tagged with MegaDrive, Super Fighter Team.

From Super Fighter Team, the awesome people that brought us Beggar Prince comes a new RPG for your Sega Genesis (or Megadrive depending on where you live). This time the RPG is called Legend of Wukong. In the game you will play as the young time traveling boy who happens to travel with pig man thing and a hot chick. The game will take place in ancient China.
In the game you will have the ability to control all three of the traveling characters, while you have travel through demon infested lands in search for a time machine. If you guys read my Beggar Prince review, you’ll know that Super Fighter team knows how to package an item. This game will have all the bells and whistles including a clam shell case with color inserts, 16 page full color booklet, and a game cartridge.
They are taking pre-orders now, if you pre-order the game you should get it in time for Christmas. So what are you waiting for? Pre-order it!

Vectorman hits the US Virtual Console
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Nintendo Wii, North America, Retro, Virtual Console. Tagged with Genesis, MegaDrive, Vectorman.
Finally, Vectorman has hit the Virtual Console in the United States.
Apparently, Vectorman is already out on the European Virtual Console, but I checked earlier today… And (as always) my Wii Shop Channel was playing silly buggers and it seemed incapable of getting to the games list page.
So I also checked the European Virtual Console website for the game, but it was not listed.
For now, I can only confirm that it is on the U.S. Virtual Console and it will cost (the standard) 800 points.
In case you know nothing about Vectorman, the official game summary is after the break.
Play four new EA titles on Tec Toy’s Mega Drive 3
Posted by George. Filed under George. Tagged with Genesis, MegaDrive.

Tec Toy has released a new Mega Drive over at Brazil, called the Mega Drive 3, even though we already had one by the same name. But unlike the one released before, this one has 86 built in games. Four being brand new EA titles, I use the word new here loosely. The titles released are:
- Need for Speed: Pro Street
- Fifa 08
- The Sims
- Sim City
It seems that Tec Toy got a license from EA to port their mobile games on to their MegaDrive 3. I don’t like to play mobile games or EA games much, so I’ll skip this one. But I guess we can say that the Sega Genesis is still alive, what about the Super Nintendo?

G-Spot: Is making Golden Axe: Beast Rider a bad idea?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, Multi-platform, News, Nintendo Wii, Retro, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with G-Spot, Golden Axe, Master System, MegaDrive, Saturn, XBLA.

There comes a time in every Sega Nerd’s life when you have to question what Sega is doing with their classic franchises. This could be something as basic as “Why haven’t they made a new game of X, Y or Z.” [X, Y and Z of course being Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia and Panzer Dragoon Saga ;o) ]
Or it could be the question - “Is releasing a new game of *blank* actually a good idea, or will it ruin the franchise?” Â
It happened with NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, some people ended up loving the game and others berate it for not being similar enough to or as good as the original.
In this case, game *Blank* is Golden Axe: Beast Rider.
There has been a bit of rift amongst gamers and Sega Nerds with the upcoming Golden Axe game. It all first came about, when it was announced that the game would only feature Tyris Flare as a playable character, and none of the other main characters which made the series famous.
But I think people should sit down and have a look back at just what the Golden Axe series actually entails.
[Updated] Summer of Sonic: Highlights video & images
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Retro, Sonic, Video. Tagged with Events, Genesis, MegaDrive, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Chronicles, Summer of Sonic.
[UPDATE: I have finally managed to upoload the video to MegaVideo - which allows you to watch it in full (without needing to download anything). So everyone can watch it easily now! However, if you wish to download this video, you can do so by visiting the original upload, here]
Perhaps later than I had wanted, but here it finally is! The Summer of Sonic Highlights video and photographs. This is for everyone who wanted to come, but couldn’t make it to the event.
As well as some truly great performances from Richard Jacques, TJ Davis and Lee Brotherton, the Summer of Sonic event had a lot of great highlights.
Now, the above video is pretty damn long (about 45mins) but a lot of it is filled with stuff I just didn’t have the heart to cut out - like the Sonic Quiz. So, in order to preserve the sanity of most of you, what I have done is broken down a time scale of the video. So if you want to skip forward to an event, you can do so (by sliding the time bar).Â
The time scale, plus more details and loads of pictures taken from the event are all after the break.
Aeropause reviews AtGames’ mini-Megadrive
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Retro. Tagged with Genesis, MegaDrive.

For our regular readers, you should remember a couple of months ago, we reported on a new Megadrive console by ATGames.
Like many mini-Megadrive consoles over the past few years, this one had some 20 built-in games. But unlike it’s competitors, the “AtGames Sega Megadrive Twin Pad Player” has a cartridge slot, which allows users to play all their old real games with it.
