House of the Dead: Overkill interview just got me excited

Light gun games made with consoles in mind don’t have that feel that arcade light gun shooters have. Its possibly due to the fact that in a arcade, you have to grab the persons attention within the first 5 minutes, if you don’t you can forget about your game doing well.
In a new interview with Head Strong games, it reveals that the developer does have arcade fans in mind:
“However, we have done our utmost to ensure that it feels like playing an arcade machine — albeit an arcade machine that is out to entertain a paying customer, instead of one that is trying to lever money out of players.”
Don’t fret, apparently there is going to be two unlockable modes that will make you tear your eyes out due to the intensity. One is called Hardcore mode and the other directors cut, that is suppose to have more brutal enemies, extra content in levels and a brutal credit system.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz Darren Williams, head of content at Sega A&R, spoke a little of his feelings towards the Wii and how Sega hopes to (effectively) create a new market in the console’s games library.
When asked if he thought the Wii was a good starting point for new gamers and if the gamers would then move on to the true next gen consoles (360 and PS3), Darren had this to say:
New House of the Dead: Overkill trailer

Well naturally, as it is Halloween, Sega has decided to release another trailer for the Wii-exclusive lightgun game, House of the Dead: Overkill.
The trailer shows off gameplay from the Bayou County general hospital level and, I am very glad to say, features the same fantastic voice over the first trailer did. It keeps in well, with the whole 1970’s ‘grind house’ horror theme and I could not help but smile when I heard the phrase; “Diagnosis? Slaughter. The treatment? Shotguns.”

Gamereactor interviews Headstrong Games

Gamereactor has recently posted up an interview with Headstrong Games’Â Studio Head, Bradley Crooks, on the upcoming House of the Dead: Overkill game.
The interview talks a bit about how the game came to be, the ‘Grindhouse’ influence, how it differs from other House of the Dead titles and also a bit on something called “Wii View.”
Wii View will allow players to look off the normal camera perspective, and it helps add to the drop-in drop-out co-op play the game offers. Bradley comments how it is no longer just two players sharing the same screen and players need to work together utilise the Wii View feature effectively.Â
Also of note, is that the Wii Motion Plus feature will no be incorporated into the game. Apparently HotD:Overkill has been finely tuned without it, and the company sees no need to include it. Which is fair enough, Ghost Squad and House of the Dead: 2&3 Return play fine on the Wii, so I see no reason why this game can’t also.

Take a gander at the awesome House of the Dead: Overkill press kit

Possibly one of the best things about Sega’s announcement for the new House of the Dead: Overkill game, is this freaking awesome press kit that was sent out.
The press kit is made to look like an old VHS tape, with the cover making the game look/sound more like a cheesey old B-grade zombie movie (just like the games).
