New Golden Axe: Beast Rider screenshots look better
Posted by George. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Golden Axe.

A lot of the forum members have been debating if we should consider this game as being shit already. I think I’ll wait to find out more. But in the end, we will never know till we try it.
Though I don’t think these screenshots look that great (apart from the one above) .
Secret Level’s website says:
…is guaranteed to leave the fans reeling with incredible graphics…
I’ll let you guys decided.
Check out the new screenshots here.

For those of you who don’t know (which would be most people outside the UK), GAME is the UK’s leading video games store.Â
Just like any typical gaming store, they cater for all areas of gaming, including Sega Nerds now, it seems.
On the home page to the GAME website, (at the time of writing this), there is a clear icon down the right hand column, which leads to a Sega specific area - shown in screendump below.
Golden Axe: Beast Riders first details
Posted by Ryan. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Ryan, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Golden Axe.
The first details for Golden Axe: Beast Riders are appearing on the Internet and we have scooped them all up and slapped them together for you. The game developed by Sega of Americas new development team Secret Level seems to be going in a newer more up-to-date direction then the original series.
Here’s what CVG had to say about Golden Axe: Beast Riders:
If you’re looking for a straight update you’re probably going to be disappointed, because the classic bruiser has been pretty much completely re-imagined in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 update.First off, you now play as one Amazonian hero, the scantily clad Tyris Flare, instead of the original game’s trio of fantasy stereotypes. Gillus the dwarf and Ax Battler are still in the game, says PSM3, but only as supporting cast.
Secondly, and probably the biggest change of the lot, is instead of straight-forward bruising Golden Axe: Beast Rider’s focus shifts over to free-roaming environments and - surprise, surprise - the various beasties you can ride and battle on. There are five in total, ranging from the light and nippy to hulking, slow dragon-ites with scales the size of toilet seats.
The traditional hack and slash combat is still there and if you’re tired of fumbling around on a dragon you can hop on foot and perform combos whenever you like - plus Tyrus has a range of spells at her disposal. The open environments are looking rather nice, but as always it’s going to come down to how decent Golden Axe’s combat system is when it finally comes out next year.
Sega Nerds Forum member Aki-at has been kind enough too supplied us with the scans from the PSM3 magazine, Thanks mate!

A look back: Golden Axe III
Posted by Hudson. Filed under News, Nintendo Wii, Retro, Virtual Console. Tagged with Golden Axe, Sega Genesis Collection.

Yes, that is a snail-dragon. Yes, those hostages are wearing modern dress. No, it doesn’t make any sense.
Golden Axe! Like Streets of Rage’s little, overcompensating brother it took the standard beat ‘em up and injected it with a dose of Conan the Barbarian, followed by a chaser of awkward world mythologies. Now the third entry in this manliest of men’s franchises is on the Virtual Console!
Dare you buy? Read on!
Golden Axe III hits the Virtual Console
Posted by Hudson. Filed under News, Nintendo Wii, Retro, Virtual Console. Tagged with Golden Axe, Sega Genesis Collection.

Fact: barbarian women were all totally hot. Also, dinosaurs!
As you might have guessed, Golden Axe III hit the ol’ Vee Cee today for eight bucks. While GAIII never saw release stateside except on the Sega Channel during the Genesis days, it did sneak its way into the Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2 and PSP not too long ago.
Stay tuned for a look back at this entry into a series that just might be making a comeback.
Beast Rider still PS3 bound?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Golden Axe, Rumor Mill.
A few days ago, we reported on a rumour, which implied that Golden Axe: Beast Rider, was going to now be a Xbox 360 exclusive.
The reports started from an article in Play Magazine, a US multi-platform gaming magazine, not to be confused with the UK Play Magazine - a Playstation-only magazine.
While the magazine hadn’t been released, French site, Xboygen, reported that the magazine said, the game was going to be a 360 exclusive… following so far? Good.
Well, PlaystationUniverse, have been in contact with Secret Level, to ask just what the hell was going on.
When asked if Secret Level had dropped the PS3 version of Golden Axe, Sega’s Danny Chiu responded stating, “Not true, it’s coming to PS3 as well.”
That should hopefully clear some things up, though others have also read further rumours, that the PS3 version had been canned. In the mean-time, we have also contacted Sega, asking them the same question, (I wonder just how many sites have been pestering them about this?), and I hope to have some form of answer soon.
For now, PS3 owners can breathe a sigh of relief, it seems.

Rumour: Golden Axe now a 360 exclusive?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Golden Axe.
According to French website Xboxygen.com, Golden Axe: Beast Rider is set to be an Xbox 360 exclusive title.
Golden Axe: Beast Rider is the main feature article in the latest US-based gaming mag, Play Magazine, where they are giving readers the goods, with details on the game and a load of images from the Xbox 360 version.
According to the report from Xboxygen, the new game will feature original Golden Axe beauty Tyrus Flare as the main character. Also stated, will be heavy levels of violence, such a decapitations, plus… nudity. (!?)
Until now, the game had been set for release on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, but if Xboxygen is to be believed, then it could be another game that has slipped from the PS3 release list.
However, it seems this news has yet to be confirmed. Luckily the boys at Kotaku are on the case and have contacted developers Secret Level for further information on the game. It could easily be a case of misunderstanding, and so far only 360 screens have been shown, a bit like with Assassin’s Creed.

New Golden Axe concept art discovered
Posted by George. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Golden Axe.
Last time we gave you 3-D models of creatures featured in the upcoming Golden Axe. This art makes me pumped for some real playable footage of the game. We will hopefully see something for the game later this year.
What I noticed in the game was that this seemed like a race on mounts. Do you think there will be parts in the game where you will have to compete in violent races for money?
Looks like the main character will be the woman (that sorta resembles Tyris Flare). Since we have seen the amazon woman as the main lead on the first shots released, this concept art, and not to mention the teaser at E3 2005. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be more playable characters in the game (such as Ax Battler or Gilius Thunderhead).
At this point, everything is speculation since SEGA has released almost nothing on this game.
