Your chance to make Sonic history
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo DS, Sonic. Tagged with Fan Sites, Fan Stuff, Giveaways, Handheld.
Sega has just announced that they shall be holding a contest which will allow you to name one of the new enemy races in the upcoming Sonic Chronicles game, for the DS!
Between March 3rd and March 14th fans will be able to visit the Sonic City website (http://www.sonic-city.com/) to cast their vote in naming the new race. After the votes have been counted the winner will be announced on March 15th and then appear in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood when the game launches in Autumn 2008.
Imagine that, playing a game where you have chosen the name for the enemy that you, and every other gamer will fight?!
If the Sonic Chronicles really takes off too, I would expect to see the winning race to feature in more games, you will (potentially) be influencing future Sonic games.
Full details of the contest are yet to be revealed, but I think any true Sega Nerd, or Sonic fan will be jumping at the chance to get their ideas across.
Stay tuned for more!

Sega gets own feature page on GAME website

For those of you who don’t know (which would be most people outside the UK), GAME is the UK’s leading video games store.Â
Just like any typical gaming store, they cater for all areas of gaming, including Sega Nerds now, it seems.
On the home page to the GAME website, (at the time of writing this), there is a clear icon down the right hand column, which leads to a Sega specific area - shown in screendump below.
Exclusive: Mario & Sonic Olympics (DS) screenshots
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii. Tagged with Exclusive, Fan Sites, Fan Stuff.

Just sent over from Sega Europe are 10 new in-game screenshots for Mario and Sonic Olympics, for the DS. Now, we are told that these particular screens are, in fact, exclusive to Sega Nerds.
[Update: I should perhaps add that these screens will cater more for our European members. As the game is already out in the US, and certain members (well just Kogen ;) ) like to be miserable and bring good news down]
These screens, show off one of the Dream Events, the Dream Race, from the game.
Pier Solar - Brand new Megadrive game coming 2008

Well we all know that the Dreamcast is, of course still alive. You shaking your head and clenching your fist - be quiet. (Yes it is alive) ;)
But what about our beloved Megadrive/Genesis? The system hasn’t seen a game released for many a year now, what with funky 3D graphics, new-fangled online play and these darn kids with their iPods. The system doesn’t really stand a chance these days.
Well 2008 could be the year that 16-bit beast unleashes it’s ‘Blast-Processor’ upon us once more.
DC-Evolution down, due to hakx0orZ
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News. Tagged with Downloads, Dreamcast, Fan Sites, Fan Stuff.

Much beloved Dreamcast site, DC-Evolution.net, was recently taken down, due to malevolent forces.
Fans of the site had been complaining, for the past few days, that they could no longer access it. It turns out that someone (or people, or perhaps a small army, who knows?), managed to hack into the site. As a result the hosts pulled the site down, to suspend any further damages.
But do not worry, the guys are said to be hard at work, rebuilding the site from the ground up, to ensure any security breaches have been rectified.
For those that do not know, DC-Evolution, is one of the biggest DC database sites around, sporting many great downloads, including homebrew games.Â
For now, only a basic homepage, explaining the situation, and forums are available to users. But I guess that’s better than nothing for now.Â
Good luck with rebuilding the site guys, I hope you weren’t too badly affected.

Rumour: Dreamcast 2 on its way, as Sega file new Dreamcast trademarks?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News. Tagged with Dreamcast, Fan Sites, Fan Stuff, Rumor Mill.
Well now this is something that hasn’t been heard for a long time, the greatly fabled (but much wanted), Dreamcast 2.
However, there is, apparently, a good reason for why this rumour is being dragged up from the depths of Sega fans tears and broken dreams.
It seems that Sega has recently trademarked the Dreamcast name. Interestingly, the original Dreamcast name is still trademarked, (so we now have two Dreamcasts under trademark). It could be that Sega wish to keep the Dreamcast name under their belt… for whatever reason.
But, various Dreamcast-related accessories have also been trademarked, including items which the original Dreamcast did not use, such as; ‘floor mats’ and ‘flash memory cards.’ The Dreamcast did have ‘floor mats,’ but none were officially made by Sega, which this trademark insinuates.
So what could this all mean? Well Trademork, (a site which watches the trademark office for interesting articles), Xboxertv and Videogamer.com are all speculating that Sega could be on the verge of re-releasing the Dreamcast, maybe as a budget console?
Let’s not get too worked up about this, though. Nothing seems definite, but it sounds like Sega could be up to something here.
New NiGHTS petition
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Fan Sites, Fan Stuff, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.
Well it was inevitable really, wasn’t it?
After the announcement that the re-release of NiGHTS into Dreams, for the PS2, was going to be Japan-only, the Internet has been a-buzz, with many fans of the franchise upset, and quite rightly so.
The PS2 version of the game, would be great chance for so many (potentially some number above the 100million mark), gamers to get to play the masterpiece that is NiGHTS.Â
Until now, the only hope of playing the game would be to buy a Saturn (which is getting harder these days), and a copy of the game. Or doing the dirty and getting a copied version of the game, but no self-respecting Sega Nerd would really do that (no, you wouldn’t).
However, Sega pretty much quashed any chance of non-Japanese gamers, when the game’s creator, Iizuka-san, told Sega Nerds, in a recent interview, that there are currently no plans for a worldwide release.
Dreamcast-Scene to celebrate Dreamcasts 9th birthday in style
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G. Tagged with Dreamcast, Fan Sites, Fan Stuff, Giveaways.
Â
Yes, it’s the 9th year of the Dreamcasts life, as we ALL know, the Dreamcast is not dead… Shhh! You. Quiet at the back!
Well, we could argue whether or not it’s ‘alive’ till the cows come home, but that won’t be very productive, now would it?
The point being, it was some 9 years ago, on November 27th 1998, when the Dreamcast was first born to the Japanese gaming market. To celebrate this great date, Dreamcast-Scene have managed to setup quite an interesting sweepstake;
Dreamcast Scene presents - in cooperation with Sega Germany, redspotgames and Van Basilco - a sweepstake that haven’t been there in this form. Good Dreamcast knowledge is required and the prizes grow from day to day.
Rules
- The sweepstake starts on November 27th 2007 and ends on December 9th 2007.
- Within this peroid we present a new “gift” (prizes, annoucements) every day.
- The quiz starts on November 28th 2007 and lasts until December 7th 2007. A new question will be added on every of these days.
- To participate to this sweepstake you have to answer all quiz question and send those answers to “sweepstake_at_dreamcast-scene.com“.
- You have to be 18 years or above to enter this sweepstake. If you are under 18 years you have to send a signed agreement from a legal guardian.
Sounds pretty interesting, eh?
As the above states, the questions will not be put up, until November 28th… which happens to be tomorrow! So be sure to check out Dreamcast-Scene in the next 24 hours, to get ahead of the game.
Also, as the Sega-Germany are also involved with this contest, there is a German translation, right here. Fantastic.
