Donk

~Click above picture for a high quality wallpaper image - sans the extra writing~

Ok this post is not directly Sega related news.  However, our good friends over at Cryptic Allusion, have requested - nay - pleaded, begged, got down on all fours and prayed, that we post this piece of news up (note: might be over exaggerating).

No doubt some of you will complain, but there’s the reason.  But if you want a loose connection to Sega, CAGames is making Donk for the Dreamcast (so there you go).  Plus, it is a chance for you to win free stuff!

Anyway, in their latest podcast, the Cryptocast, they announce a new contest - giving listeners a chance to win some pretty cool prizes.

Cryptic Allusion Escapist Interview

Ok this interview was put up a good week ago, but it has only recently come to my attention, and I feel that it should be (relatively) interesting to many Dreamcast fans, and homebrew enthusiasts.

Our good friends at Cryptic Allusion, (whom we have interviewed in the past), recently spoke to The Escapist about their involvement with the homebrew scene and a little bit about working on their upcoming Dreamcast game Donk.

Here are a few excerpts from the article:

 CryptoCast

“CryptoCast?  What the hell is that?”  I hear you all exclaim.

Well our good friends over at Cryptic Allusion, the indie-developers famed for the Dreamcast’s Feet of Fury, and the upcoming Donk (also DC) games, have recently started up their very own podcast.  Dubbed the ‘CryptoCast,’ the podcast’s first recording was available from last week, and the next installment is due this Friday (31st August).

For those of you haven’t heard the first episode of the CryptoCast, the two main guys at Cryptic Allusion, Roddy and Dan, talk about their company, what it’s like to be a small developer, and developing games for systems, like the Dreamcast.  In the first episode, they specifically speak about Donk, and give a rundown of what it’s like to port an old game to our beloved Sega console.

Who cares if Sega has stopped production of GD-ROMS or won’t fix our Dreamcasts or Saturns anymore? You think that’s enough to stop the Dreamcast scene? Hell no!

Just take a look at the guys at Cryptic Allusion who are developing a new Dreamcast game as we speak. Some of you may remember back in April when we interviewed Dan Potter and Roddy Toomimat of Crypic Allusion, the same guys behind Feet of Fury and are currently developing a Dreamcast port of Donk. Back then, the game was still pretty early and didn’t look very different from the original Amiga version.

Fast forward several months and the Dreamcast Donk has shown some noticeable improvements. Gone is Donk’s steel Samurai armor. It’s replaced with a white gi and bandanna. What’s up with the red belt, though?

However, a crisper and sharper Donk sprite isn’t the only upgrade the game has received. Backgrounds are much more detailed, and the graphics now have a flash-based feel to them.

While work on the game continues, Dan and Roddy will attend the Northwest Classic Gaming Expo 2007 in Portland Sept. 29 and 30. There, the duo plans to have Donk available for purchase as well as other “rarities that you won’t find anywhere else.”

If anyone’s going, score us a copy!
