Alien Syndrome designer explains Wii controls

We’ve all seen our full share of Alien Syndrome videos and screen shots. Hell, we’ve even angered the Nintendo fanbase for blaspheming the Wii by comparing its graphics to the PSP’s. But until today, we really didn’t know how Totally Games was going to implement the Wii’s controls into the game.
Jeff Kung, Alien Syndrome senior designer, walks us through the Wiimote’s capabilities and what we can expect to see once we have Alien Syndrome inside our Wiis. Kung even goes so far as to say the Wiimote gives the player more precision than a keyboard and mouse. Egad!
Alien Syndrome still has a summer release date on Sega’s official site, but Gamestop has it set to release July 10.

Sega Europe have revealed a few release dates for some of their upcoming titles for the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. While the dates are not set in stone as of yet, we should expect/hope to see the games hit stores around these times.

- SEGA Presents Touch Darts - June 22nd - DS
- Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars - June 29th - PSP
- Alien Syndrome - June/TBC - Wii/PSP
Of course we (should) know that there are plenty more Sega titles confirmed for release this year. These few are just the ones we should expect within the next couple of months, and the majrority of other titles we should see later in the year and are yet to have their dates confirmed.
Highly notable games include;
- NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams - Wii
- Sega Rally Revo - Xbox 360/PS3/PC
- The Club - Xbox 360/PS3
- Sonic and Mario Olympics - Wii/DS

Plus many more titles have been revealed over last couple of months.  It’s going to be a very exciting year for Sega, and for all us loyal Sega Nerds.

PSP vs. Wii: An Alien Syndrome graphics battle Pt. 2

It seems my comparison shots of Alien Syndrome on the PSP and Wii has caused a little stir around the video game blogging community. I’ve even read people commenting at a few places that suggest we’ve, for some reason, enhanced the PSP image to further support my claim.
That’s just plain silly. I could care less which title looks better, I was just making an observation based on the images Sega released yesterday.
To hopefully put to rest any further speculation that anyone at Sega Nerds graphically enhanced an image for the sake of sensationalism, I present you the originally-sized images from Sega. All you have to do is just click on the above image, and you’ll see both shots at their original size.
And if that still doesn’t sway you, how about looking at the images directly from Sega? Look at the PSP version here and the Wii version here.
PSP vs. Wii: An Alien Syndrome graphics battle

Ya know, Nintendo has always said it’s not aiming to have the best graphics in the home console business, but I never thought I’d see the day when a handheld rivaled the Wii’s graphic’s capabilities.
The game in question is Alien Syndrome, which is developed by Totally Games. I don’t think there’s any question the Wii version pushes more polygons, but the PSP’s textures look cleaner and more crisp.
However, I do want to say this problem could have more to do with the developer and the fact the games are still unfinished. But whatever way you slice it, it’s hard to argue that the games don’t look pretty similar, graphically speaking.
See another example after the jump.
Alien Syndrome media blowout

If you’re a Sega Nerd tired of playing your classic games in the arcade and want to see their sequels at home, then you might be eagerly awaiting the Sega’s release of Alien Syndrome on the Nintendo Wii and PSP.
But I’m sorry to tell you you’ll have to keep waiting. But to help tide you over, we’re giving you enough Alien Syndrome goodies to satisfy your needs several times … if you know what I mean.
In the game, you’ll play as Earth Command Trooper Aileen Harding as she battles aliens, mean bosses and all sorts of other not-nice beings. Alien Syndrome combines the sci-fi shooter genre with the depth and customization of an RPG, according to Sega.
Throughout the game, you will encounter more than 100 enemies, 15 sub-bosses and five main bosses, while using hundreds of different weapons, armor and other bonus times. Additionally, you’ll be able to choose from several classes that have their own attributes.
The Nintendo Wii version will feature four player co-op, exclusive mini-games, a unique control screen, while the PSP version features four-player wireless multi-player.
Developed by Totally Games, we can expect to see a summer release on both platforms.
