Virtua Tennis 2009 minigame hits iPhone/iPod touch
Posted by George. Filed under George, Worldwide. Tagged with App, Free, iPhone, iPod Touch, iTunes, Tennis, Virtua Tennis 2009.
Sega has just sneaked a Virtua Tennis 2009 app onto iTunes, this one is a free minigame to promote the full retail release of Virtua Tennis 2009. The minigame in the free app is called “Launch Raquet.” The game is played by swinging the iPhone/iPod touch when you see a light or feel the vibration from the device. Seems like a shallow game, but I guess we can’t complain, free is free.
Seems that Sega is starting to join one of the many companies putting up free iTune apps to promote their retail products. Seems like a good strategy, people love free apps.
You can download the free app here, you will need iTunes installed on your computer and a iphone/iPod Touch.

SNQ: What extras do you want to see in your games?
Posted by George. Filed under George, Original Content, Worldwide. Tagged with SNQ, Special Collectors Edition Limited Release OMG, Sunday Night Question.

[Sunday Night Question is back, hopefully it will start to be a weekly thing again]
It seems that the new big fad this generation is special editions (limited editions or collector’s editions, whatever you want to call them) releases of games. The concept is simple, you give your fans some extras, this lets you charge them more money for the product and keep them happy.
The problem is, most special editions are not worth the extra ten bucks. Not to mention, they never have stuff I’m interested in. What I want in a special edition game is a documentary, something way behind the scenes where the developers explain why they did what they did in the game, interviews with producers/directors and show us stuff that didn’t make it into the final game. This is something I actually love to see, the cut stuff. I love how DVDs have them, yet this sort of stuff hasn’t made it into gaming.
As much as I love comics and the extra swag that comes with special editions, I rather have more behind the scenes and in depth with the process of making the game.
The Conduit’s online mode gets hacked
Posted by George. Filed under George, Nintendo Wii, Worldwide. Tagged with Hack, High Voltage Studio, sega, The Conduit.
There is a USB device that you hook up to the Wii, called “USB Gecko,” this device lets you put in codes, sort of like Game Genie. The USB Gecko is meant to do a ton of things, though this article is about its “cheat engine.” It seems that they already have some codes for The Conduit, as seen on the video above.
The user “hetoan2″ is showing off how you can have no reloads, Infinite HP and Infinite Ammo in the online mode of The Conduit. The game has yet to be released in Europe and it seems that the online mode will already be broken. He stated before that he won’t release the codes unless his video gets one million views (or one star), but he broke his word and posted the codes on his blog already.
Sega and High Voltage studio has yet to say anything about this or if there will be a possible fix. It doesn’t seem like there will be, Nintendo will have to disable the device via firmware update and it doesn’t seem that Nintendo cares about online play (I could obviously be wrong).
[EDIT: Some people say the codes listed on the site brick your systems, others say it doesn't. Just a warning, cheaters don't prosper and if the codes brick your system, don't cry to us after]

Have some new Resonance of Fate screens

Here are 11 new Resonance of Fate (End of Eternity in Japan) screens, apparently even numbers are out this season. Some of the screens (most) where featured in the Famitsu scans posted a few days ago.
The new screens show off how the battles will look and a dog in a jacket, no seriously, take a look.

To celebrate the European release of Virtua Tennis 2009 for the Wii, (which is today by the way), we have teamed up with Sega Europe to give away some limited edition Virtua Tennis branded gear, so you’ll look like a real (Virtua) tennis pro playing in your living room.

Golden Axe slashes its way onto iPhones
Posted by George. Filed under George, Retro, Worldwide. Tagged with Golden Axe, iPhone, iPod Touch, iTunes.
Sega has released Golden Axe on the iPhone and iPod Touch devices this morning. This is a port of the Genesis/Mega Drive version and not the arcade version. Just like Sonic the Hedgehog, that was released last month, it will play with a virtual d-pad and buttons.
I don’t think I have to go into detail about what Golden Axe is about, since I think we all have played the game and its countless ports. The game will set you back $4.99. The game does not feature multiplayer support, so the game will be a solo mission.

Sonic giving fans free copies of Sonic 3?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Retro, Worldwide. Tagged with Downloads, Facebook, Free Stuff, Sega Vintage Collection 2, Sonic 3, XBLA.

It seems that Sonic the Hedgehog, (or a person from Sega pretending to be Sonic), is giving out the download code for the recently released XBLA version of Sonic 3, on Facebook.
“Attention Sonic fans! Who wants a free download code for “Sonic 3″ for Xbox Live Arcade? Well, here you go — first to enter the code gets it! Q7MTT-TCW9H-TCRY9-6CCJQ-QD9F6 If someone else nabs the code before you, not to worry, there’s more chances: we’re going to post a code here tomorrow and every weekday next week at Noon, PDT”
Today was the first day the code was given out but (as it says above), they Sonic will give out another code tomorrow and all of next week. You might be wondering; “What’s with this sudden generosity?” - Well apparently it is Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday on June 23rd (that’s what someone said on the Facebook page).
If that is true, perhaps I should have known that (being a Sega Nerd), but I can’t even remember my parents birthdays (seriously) - so it would be pretty weird of me to remember the birthday of a fictional video game character. I only know the most important birthdays; mine, Jesus’ and Jackie Chan’s.
Anyway, if you really want Sonic 3 for XBLA, but can’t be bothered to pay the 400 MS points, then stay fixed to Sonic the Hedgehog’s Facebook page.
Sega officially confirms Hayes’ promotion
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Worldwide. Tagged with Mike Hayes, Naoya Tsurumi, Personnel, Promotion, Sega America, Sega Europe, Sega West.
We didn’t have any real doubt on the matter, but Sega has now officially confirmed what we already know. Mike Hayes has been promoted to President of Sega America, while also keeping his position as President of Sega Europe at the same time - effectively he is now “President of Sega West.”
The recent press release also announces that Naoya Tsurumi “will assume worldwide responsibility for SEGA’s Consumer Business, incorporating SEGA of Japan, SEGA of America and SEGA of Europe.”
This move should (in theory) unify all three regions, making the company run more efficiently on a global level. Let’s hope this works.
Full press release after the break.
