TGS 08: List of upcoming Sega games that will support trophies

Sony does not require new games to be trophy ready or even to support them (as of now), but the following games are trophy ready on release:

Pretty much their whole line up, just not Valkyria Chronicles or Golden Axe: Beast Riders.

Sega doesn’t tend to patch old games with support for this feature, unlike  other studios. But is it worth going through the trouble of updating them? I think this feature is better implemented than 360’s achievements, but then again they had years ahead to copy and change. Better being late than never I guess.

TGS 08: New 2-D Sonic game might be coming to XBLA & PSN

akinorinishiyama.jpgMight, as in possibly not. But who knows, I’m sure Sega isn’t blind to the success of Mega Man 9 and Bionic Commando Rearm to ignore the possibilities of a new old school Sonic game or even a remake of the first three. This is what Akinori Nishiyama (producer of Sonic Unleashed) had to say to Kotaku:

“There’s always the possibility. Whether it would be viable remains to be seen, but having a new game - or even a remake of the GBA games, which we now can’t use [thanks to the DSi] - would certainly be possible.”

Remake of GBA games? That is not what I want at all. Try again….

Sega came into TGS to do one thing, kick ass. If you see their line up, its a pretty beefy , Edge even agrees. They posted a list of the top 20 games at TGS and Sega had more games on the list than any other publisher. When was the last time you saw so many Sega games make a list?

Here are the games that made the list (only Sega games posted):

Surprises? Mine was that Bleach: Versus Crusade broke into the top 5 and that Bayonetta wasn’t mentioned. I can see Yakuza 3 getting second to Resident Evil 5, due to the fact that Resident Evil 5 playable. What do you guys think?

Sega has now officially opened the new Alpha Protocol website.  Right now the site is a little sparse on content, although does feature some details on the game and a few screenshots.

But have no fear, as always, Sega will be updating the site over the coming months with new screens, details and videos from the game.

TGS 08: 20 minutes of Yakuza 3 footage

12:46pm 10 Oct '08

At last years TGS Sega had a special extended preview of Kenzan! (remeber the Yakuza prequel everyone was calling Yakuza 3?), which gave the audience there a good 10 minute (or so) preview of what to expect from the upcoming game.  Well this year is no different, except the lucky audience received a 20 minute preview of Yakuza 3.  Lucky bastards!

Though someone was kind enough to record the preview, and with the wonders of the Internet, we can all enjoy it.  Lucky us!

Unfortunately, the whole thing is in Japanese, with Japanese writing.  So I doubt many of you can understand what’s going on fully.  But anyone who has played Yakuza 1 and 2, will likely find the video interesting.   Not only do most of the original cast appear, but there is also a bit of a surprise/spoiler - so if you don’t want to ruin the game’s story too much, perhaps best not to watch it.

Valkyria Chronicles European demo now available

Valkyria Chronicles

The European demo for Valkyria Chronicles is now available for download from the Playstation Network.  The game is due for release in Europe on October 31st.

We reported a few days ago how the demo would be heading to the US, but unfortunately gamers will have to pay for the privilege, as it comes “free” with the PSN’s online gaming magazine, Qore.  So you will either need to be a subscriber, or pay a one-off fee to download the demo magazine.

So, you American chappies can either wait, and pay to try the game.  Or you could try to setup a seperate European account on your PS3, so you can download the demo that way - at least I’m told that is doable.

The full press release is after the break.

TGS 08: Yakuza 3 gameplay trailer

I have been waiting for some gameplay footage for this title since it was revealed. The third title is shaping up to deliver what it promised, to be the biggest and best game in the series. We even see the player controlled camera, adds a bigger wow factor to the game.

The game also shows off some of its other features, including mini games and fighting scenes. I think this game is shaping up very nicely.

TGS 08: Ayana Tsubaki’s 3-D model for Yakuza 3

Yakuza series always has had a huge budget, featuring a big cast behind each game. This time even the minor characters will be celebrities (sort of), fashion model Ayana Tsubaki will play a oil massage therapist in the upcoming Yakuza video game.

Never heard of Ayana Tsubaki? Well I did some googling and apparently she used to be a dude. Shes a transgendered individual. When she was asked how it felt being in a video game, she responded

“Appearing in game is a strange feeling.”

It also feels strange being turned on by her photos, maybe I should have googled her before looking.

TGS 08: Bayonetta teaser, with gameplay

6:41am 9 Oct '08

We saw the pre-TGS teaser for Bayonetta a few days ago, now it is time for the proper TGS teaser.  This video is very different from the other one, and pretty cool.

The first part is all FMV with some very saucy crotch shots of our heroine - well sex sells, I guess.  The second part of the trailer shows some actual gameplay footage.

At first I wasn’t so impressed, it looks good, and fast - but kind of looked like a standard 3rd person action game.  Then you got to see some cool ‘environmental kills’ and something that looked like an awesome boss battle, plus a glimpse at some of Bayonetta’s magic at the very end.  Very cool.

New Yakuza 3 info and screens

The Yakuza 3 website has updated with some new info, one being a side mission about giving girls a make over for a contest. Nothing is more gangster than fashion. If you didn’t know, the game will feature real models from Koakuma Ageha. You can take out girls and play darts (it looks very Shenmue style), billiards, and karaoke.

Also you will be able to get more arcade games, one being Answer X Answer, a real quiz game released by Sega in the arcades. There will still be a UFO Catcher, casinos and batting cages. Also you can actually play golf this time around, how nice.
