The History of the Dreamcast - parts 1 & 2

I saw part one of “The History of the Dreamcast,” by The Gaming Historian - aka Norman Caruso randomly, about a month or so ago.

Rather than post up the first part on its own, I decided to wait it out for part two to arrive and bring you guys the full thing. You see, while “Mr. G Historian” does not cover the full ins and outs of the Dreamcast’s life, the videos do serve as a beautiful tribute to one of the best-loved (among Sega Nerds at least) consoles of all time.

Sonic Unleashed Wii screens finally shown

Sonic sells best on Nintendo consoles, so it was sorta odd seeing all the Sonic Unleashed images, so far, shown off only on the Xbox 360. Even at Sega’s Gamer Day they only showed the 360 version, frankly it had me a bit worried.

I’m still worried about the game, but not as much as before. Nintendo Power showed off a couple of screens for Sonic Unleash on the Wii, in this months issue.

Though I still don’t understand why they chose to show off the brown level.  Am I the only one that thought Sonic and the Secret of the Rings looked better than the current shots shown? These are scans though. I’ll wait for more screens before judging.

Yakuza 2 to have Japanese audio with English subtitles

Fans whimpered and those whimpers have been heard over at Sega of America, they updated the Yakuza 2 site revealing that the game will come with the Japanese voice actors. This is great, even though I actually enjoyed the English voice overs, you can’t win them all I guess….

Authentic, cinematic sequel. The gritty, genuine portrayal of life in the Yakuza is made more realistic throughout 16 gripping chapters with a return to the original Japanese voice cast and English subtitles.

I don’t know if this means there will be no English dub, we will have to wait and find out. We will keep you updated.

Sega Superstars Tennis hits up a million

Sega Superstars Tennis has now reached over a million copies sold world wide! If you didn’t find something to like in Sega Superstars Tennis, you are not a Sega fan! This game was a overdose of Sega love, sweet sensual Sega love.

This number comes from VGchartz, so it could be well off.  Something to add, the game hasn’t been released in Japan yet! Not that I think it would do that great there anyway.

Hopefully the game has profited enough and Sumo Digital will be allowed to make a new Sega Superstars game. Maybe a fighting game or a collection of minigames not involving tennis. That was the best part of Sega Superstars Tennis, the minigames. Though I’m sure all you guys have better suggestions, right?

Sonic World Adventure name change is false

Sonic City Blog posted regarding the rumor about Sonic Unleashed  getting a name change. According to them Sonic World Adventure was a very early title for Sonic Unleashed. Makes sense I guess…

Unleashed was indeed, at an early developmental stage, going to be called Sonic World Adventure, it even had a WIP logo of sorts that featured on a verrrrry early cut of a promo video for the title. Who knows maybe in some dim and distant future said video will appear, but no - Unleashed Sonic is so Sonic Unleashed it shall be.

Sonic City Blognik is a official Sega blog, so this is legit info. Personally I’m glad its false, Sonic World Adventure sounded a bit odd.

Yakuza 2’s first Western trailer

While many gamers have all their focus upon Yakuza 3, don’t forget that Sega’s bringing Yakuza 2 stateside with a full English translation. Today, Sega released the first Western trailer of the game, which finishes with a violently humorous scene that’s very reminiscent of that found in The Departed.

Transfer your PSU characters to Phantasy Star Portable [Update]

psu.jpgWhile we’re all disappointed Phantasy Star Portable doesn’t have a true online mode like its console brethren, it will apparently allow you to go online to transfer your PS2/PC Phantasy Star Universe characters into the game, where they will then become fully playable in PSP.

This is a really smart move so players don’t have to start all the way over, but there is one small catch – there is a level cap of 20 and you can only transfer over equipped items and only 10,000 meseta, according to Siliconera.

Additionally, Sega will release downloadable missions for the PS2 and PC versions of PSU: Ambition of Illuminus where players work alongside Vivian, a character in Phantasy Star Portable. Sega hasn’t said if these features will come to the Xbox 360 version.

[Update: It seems there was a mixup in the translation, and you can't carry over equipped weapons. Thanks for the correction, Espiokaos.]

Play PSU for free!

Due to the continuous billing errors for the PS2/PC version of Phantasy Star Universe, Sega is trying to make amends. The company is letting everyone who has an existing account, play free until June 6. You won’t be able to make a new account either since billing is still under maintenance.

This offer is only for the PC/PS2 version. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go look for my copies of Phantasy Star Universe! The Max Attack G event will be going on. Everyone I know that plays Phantasy Star Universe likes it, so I’ll check that out.

SGD08: The Incredible Hulk hands on

Sega had a Hulk booth, and I didn’t even notice it. It was the last thing I saw at the event. There was a constant group of people playing it in a little huddle, laughing when they threw cars at people.Let me start off by saying that I never played Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Licensed games aren’t really my thing! But I have heard people talk about Hulk:UD, so I sorta know how it plays and whatnot.

Reminder: Iron Man lands this week

Iron Man

It’s a huge week for gamers, what with Mario Kart Wii already on sale and Grand Theft Auto 4 and a huge update to PC multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 set for Tuesday. It would be easy to forget that Sega and Secret Level’s Iron Man game is scheduled for release this Friday. Hey, I can’t blame you since I didn’t even remember myself.

Lucky for you, I’m here to remind you that yes, the game is coming out just in time for the movie to debut in theaters. If you can find a break in your busy schedule between seeing Iron Man in theaters, racing online in karts, rushing for gold and shooting prostitutes, be sure to try out Iron Man. Conveniently, it’s available on every platform and then some… Including your cell phone.

If you want to learn more about the game, check out our previous coverage. It seems that there are no reviews for the game online at this moment, but I’m sure that will change soon.
