English of the Dead announced

Zombies teach English, not something I get to say very often so I’m going to savour every moment of it. Sega of Japan recently announced English of the Dead for the Nintendo DS, much like the game Typing of the Dead although this time words pop up in Japanese and you have to quickly spell it out in English, if you make it in time the zombie dies while screaming the word you just beat his arse with.

I say ‘you’ but really this game is for the Japanese to learn English with. So chances are no body reading this now will be getting the game considering the only Japanese people who will need the game are going to need it to help them learn English in the first place!

Eurogamer: Football Manager Live impressions

Euro gamer have a preview of Sega and Sports Interactives new game in the Football Manager series, This game is slightly different to the annual Football Manager.

This is Football Manager Live, basically it’s an MMORPG where you set up a football team and pit them against other peoples teams online while buying and selling players and doing all the other things that football managers do, what ever that is!

It’s more likely that FML will appeal to SI’s existing user base, and work for those that are already familiar with and playing online games, while serving as an entry point for those who aren’t.

You can see the full impressions of the game HERE

CVG have a short but very sweet interview with Sumo digital about the upcoming title Sega Superstar Tennis, They don’t give away to much we don’t already know but they did mention the game will have 80 tracks of classic Sega and brand new music composed by Richard Jacques, plus some hidden characters they haven’t mentioned yet!
Highlights,

Were music and sound effects taken from other Sega games?

We’ve been really honoured and allowed to access the Sega archives for the music and sounds. On top of this we’ve also had the services of Richard Jacques to revisit certain game themes to bring them right up to date, as well as add his own brand new music to tie the whole game together. We’ve got over 80 pieces of music in the game, a real fan pleasing soundtrack!

Which Sega characters are in the game?

I’ve got to be careful who I mention, as we’ve got some that have to remain secret for now… I think the ones I can mention are Sonic, Ulala, Amigo, AiAi, Tails, NiGHTS, Shadow, Reala, Beat and Gum.2 We’ve tried to go for a good mix of characters from past and present, so if you’re a Sega fan, there will be someone who you really want to play as.

I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS GAME! I’m not a big fan of tennis or any sport for that matter but I don’t even care, this game is going to be better then sex with Scarlett Johansson.

The full interview which any self respecting Sega fan should read is right here.

Sega of Europe are giving you the chance to put your questions to the god of video game music himself, Richard Jacques. All you have to do is go over to the Sega of Europe blog and put your questions in the comments box on this article.

Here is what SoE had to say:

As you are no-doubt aware, award winning and long time SEGA favourite, Richard Jacques has scored the music throughout the single-player campaign in The Club. Now, we’ve managed to grab some of his precious time and secured an interview with him. But instead of us sitting there firing questions at him, we thought we’d let you, his fans, ask the questions.

Lets face it, we all know that the fighter EA was developing for Marvel was going to suck big time. So you’ll be happy to hear the game has been canned, but what has this got to do with Sega you ask?

Marvel, EA Call the Whole Thing Off
Agree to disagree.
by Daemon Hatfield
January 28, 2008 - It was just last summer that Electronic Arts and Marvel announced plans to create a new fighting game franchise featuring a roster of characters from Marvel’s stable. EA was developing the first entry in the series, but that studio was closed in November. The future of the Marvel fighting game was uncertain.

Today Marvel Interactive confirmed its deal with EA has been terminated.

Review: PSU: Ambition of the Illuminus (PC)

Like most Sega fans I played Phantasy Star Online to death, the game was revolutionary and playing an MMO on a console was something special back then, I could meet up with my fellow Sega fans online, kill monsters, battle each other or just sit around in the lobby areas and chat about how awesome the Dreamcast is. Those were the days!

So when Phantasy Star Universe was announced you can imagine the excitement, I waited years for this game to finally release and when it did… What a disappointment, don’t get me wrong, it did everything PSO did and did it better! But that, in my opinion, is partly the problem!

When Sega and Petroglyph games announced they were going to be making a real time strategy game together I must say I was very excited. Knowing full well the main developers within Petroglyph are Ex-Westwood studios, who (of course) worked on the original Command and Conquer games, which was one of my favourite PC game series growing up. So, did they deliver the game I was hoping for, or did they fall short of their previous greatness?

Uwe Boll lashes out at House of the Dead fans

In a recent interview broadcast on Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld, by Fox News, Uwe Boll was asked how he dealt with gamers who complain about his (absolute shite excuse for) movies. His answer?

“A lot of video games have no story. I did the movie House of the Dead and got bashed and I said, what were you expecting, Schindler’s List? I showed zombies chasing people and this is basically what the movie delivers.

“I don’t know what they were expecting if you make a movie based on an ego shooter where you kill ninety minutes of people non-stop.”

In reply to Internet critics he went onto say,

“They don’t have their own life and they’re still sitting at Mommy’s table every lunch”.

Well I put this to you Mr Boll, House of the Dead the arcade game delivered a better and more compelling storyline than your straight to DVD piece of shit excuse for a movie adaptation. Hell, I’ve seen porn with better scripts than your movies.

I think it’s about time you gave up ruining the image of video games; you’re a failure as a film director. But cheer up, put away your toy camera because I think I can hear your mummy calling, your lunch is ready… It’s alphabetti spaghetti!

New Valkyrie of the Battlefield trailer

Here is the latest trailer for Valkyrie of the Battlefield, Sega’s SRPG 3rd person shooter hybrid for the PS3. I’m sure you will agree it’s a very impressive looking game with it’s Canvas style art and interesting BLiTZ battle system.

Speaking of the Battle System here’s what we know so far:

Valkyrie of the Battlefield features a unique turn-based battle system called BLiTZ (Battle of Live Tactical Zones). In-between turns players are treated to an overhead map view, but zoom in to control each individual unit on the battlefield. Movement and other actions are handled in real time, though limited by an AP gauge that varies for each character. This gauge can recharge even during the same turn as you operate other characters. Additionally, players are in direct control of the characters’ aim, allowing for headshots and other advantages. The environment also factors heavily in combat. In an urban level, for example, snipers can be sent onto rooftops to eliminate unsuspecting enemies below while tanks and other units can outmaneuver enemy positions via the streets.

Each character in the game fulfills a unique role - for instance, Alicia Melchiott is a mid-range rifle unit, while her male companion Welkin Gunther is a tank driver. There are also a host of other units including short-range machine gunners, heavy artillery, and snipers.

The sky was blue the colours were bright and cheery. I even laughed a little at Amigos maraca run and Robotnik’s crazy tennis arms invention!

It’s good to see guys like Amigo and Ulala back again doing their thing, I wonder who or what else from Sega’s epic history will appear in this baby!

This game? Day 1 for me!

This game releases March 18, 2008 to DS, PS2, PS3, Wii, and XBOX360 in the USA.
