Review: Dinosaur King

My only contact with the Dinosaur King world was playing the kiddie arcade title at ATEI 2007, but that didn’t do much to explain the story or anything about the franchise. From what I have been told, it is a little bit like Pokemon/DigiMon, with kids using dinosaurs to fight instead of random cute creatures.
But I was ready and willing to step up and check out the DS title, and see what all the fuss is about.
Review: PictoImage

You might have missed the launch of PictoImage, or maybe even the fact that the game ever existed. But the more observant of you might (vaguely) remember me talking about a brief hands-on play I had with the game at TGS 2007.
Unfortunately, my hands-on experience was lacking, due to the huge amount of Japanese that was needed to play the game at all. I had a little help from one of the (hot) Sega booth babes, but that didn’t help too much. So instead I watched on, as everyone who could read Japanese had all the fun.
The game was released in Japan a while ago, and finally made its way to western shores, so I now get to experience the full fun of the game that I missed in Tokyo. Or do I?
Review: Valkyria Chronicles

Sega has finally brought Valkyria Chronicles to the west, six months after the Japanese release and following much positive feedback from the gaming community. Now that the game is here, was it worth the wait?
Review: Golden Axe: Beast Rider

“Golden Axe is one of our most treasured brands and is a complete re-imagining of the story that will take gamers on an unforgettable journey,” said Scott Steinberg, vice president of marketing at Sega of America, during the game’s announcement at E3 2006. “The vision we have for the remake of Golden Axe is nothing short of remarkable, and it can only be realized on the PS3 and Xbox 360.”
Ever since Golden Axe: Beast Rider was first announced, fans of the series have been anxiously awaiting its release, and for many Sega Nerds, it’s been one of this year’s most anticipated titles.
Now, that wait is over thanks to developer Secret Level’s shot at re-establishing the Golden Axe franchise as a household name. Will Steinberg’s lofty expectations be met and recapture the hearts of gamers like the original, or will it disappoint like so many other classic remakes?
Review: Samba De Amigo

Despite receiving a generally good reception on the Dreamcast from magazines, websites and the gaming community, Samba De Amigo perhaps didn’t sell quite as well as Sega (and all Sega Nerds) had hoped for.
However, Sega has seen some light and decided to release an updated version of the Dreamcast classic on the Wii. But, is this new version as equally fun as the original game? Or has Sega made a cock-up trying to release it on the Wii?Â
Review: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

Since winning the “Sonic Chronicles Name for a Race” contest earlier this year, where our name for a new race - The Zoah - won, we’ve been keeping a close eye on this title.
While we’ve had some hands-on time with the game when it was still in development, what we’re now most interested in is if the retail version lives up to Bioware’s (aka the RPG kings) reputation, or is this yet another bad Sonic game to add to a growing list?
Retro-review: Shadow the Hedgehog

Being a Sega Nerd hasn’t been exactly easy over the past decade. It seems Sega has done just as much, if not more, to hurt itself than it has to better the company that once dominated the video game industry alongside Nintendo. Perhaps the company’s most embarrassing moment was when it unleashed Shadow the Hedgehog upon the gaming masses in November 2005.
Unofficially, that was the day the Sonic franchise reached rock bottom, but no one can deny that Shadow the Hedgehog officially sucked. Well, many Sega Nerds probably saved themselves the punishment and skipped this mockery of their beloved franchise, and God bless them for having the wisdom to do so.
However, there are those of us who, for reasons even unbeknownst to ourselves, enjoy tormenting ourselves with unspeakable horrors. We, the unfortunate souls who have actually played Shadow the Hedgehog through to the bitter end, have been to the farthest reaches of hell and came back to tell the tale. After recently experiencing this spawn of Satan, I can attest that this game is even worse than you can imagine.
Review: Yakuza 2
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, Review, Sony PlayStation 2. Tagged with Yakuza, Yakuza 2.

The original Yakuza received a fair bit of praise for its gritty fighting and intense storyline, but never really made it as a household name among non-Sega fans, which is no doubt why Sega took so long to release the game outside of Japan.
But now one of the most brutal franchises on the PS2 has finally made its way to Western shores, but is it any good?
Sega Nerds adopts new review system
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, Nathan, News, Review. Tagged with site-news.

Hello my fellow Sega Nerds, Chris here, the editor of this fine site. I haven’t posted very much over the past few months, but that doesn’t mean that the team and I haven’t been hard at work behind the scenes, striving to make the site a better place for all of you.
Today, I’d like to introduce something we’ve been talking about internally for about half a year. We’ve never been very happy with the way the majority of gaming sites and publications review games - more specifically, how they score the games they review.
Fellow Sega Nerd Nathan was kind enough to provide the following reasons why we’re going in a new direction.
Review: Space Siege
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, PC, Review. Tagged with Gas Powered Games, RPG, Space Siege.

Now, I’m not a massive PC gamer, as a result you will have to forgive me for never playing the original Dungeon Siege game.
One other problem I had with the game was that (apparently) my computer was unable to handle the game properly. Even though the specs of my computer outstripped the ‘Recommended Specs’ (not by much - but was still better) I found that I had to run the game in a windowed view and with all the settings on low. The only thing that might have held me back was my graphics card, although (on paper) it should have been perfectly acceptable.
The main issue here is that I will be unable to judge the game’s graphics as Gas Powered Games intended them to look. But, after the adjusting, the game ran smoothly enough so I can talk about how it plays and whether it is good or not.
