Sega Role Playing celebrates Shining Force III’s 10th anniversary

A relatively new, (but quite cool) Sega fansite, which focuses on some of the great Sega RPG games (cunningly named) SegaRolePlaying, is in the process of celebrating the 10th anniversary of Shining Force III.
Shining Force III is known by many Sega Nerds as being one of the greatest SRPGs of all time. It is also well known because Sega/Camelot made the game into three parts, but only Scenario 1 ever made it to western shores, meaning that only the lucky Japanese gamers got the full game.
Shenmue Campaign steps it up a notch - but will it work?
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Retro. Tagged with Dreamcast, Shenmue, Shenmue III.
Along with their new site design the guys behind Shenmue Campaign have decided to step up their attempts to get Sega to release Shenmue III and complete the saga. Something that pretty much all Sega Nerds want.
Rather than just getting people to sign a petition, which most sites do, Shenmue Campaign is asking every Shenmue fan to write letters, emails, one line sentences to them, and they will send them all off to Sega Japan - in a bid to show that fans still want the game.
Sega of America’s mysterious game archive
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, North America, Retro. Tagged with Secret.
This is a few days old now, (we dropped the ball and missed it) but we have had so many people sending us links (although decided to give credit to the first two people to tip us), and it is a pretty cool story, so I have decided to post it up anyway, for anyone who has not seen it yet.
In case you didn’t know, Sega of America recently moved it’s offices in San Francisco to… well another part of San Francisco. After the move, the chaps over at the SoA Blogs went on a mini adventure, exploring their new surroundings, when they came across a discovery that would make any Sega Nerd hard.
[Updated] Summer of Sonic: Highlights video & images
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Retro, Sonic, Video. Tagged with Events, Genesis, MegaDrive, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Chronicles, Summer of Sonic.
[UPDATE: I have finally managed to upoload the video to MegaVideo - which allows you to watch it in full (without needing to download anything). So everyone can watch it easily now! However, if you wish to download this video, you can do so by visiting the original upload, here]
Perhaps later than I had wanted, but here it finally is! The Summer of Sonic Highlights video and photographs. This is for everyone who wanted to come, but couldn’t make it to the event.
As well as some truly great performances from Richard Jacques, TJ Davis and Lee Brotherton, the Summer of Sonic event had a lot of great highlights.
Now, the above video is pretty damn long (about 45mins) but a lot of it is filled with stuff I just didn’t have the heart to cut out - like the Sonic Quiz. So, in order to preserve the sanity of most of you, what I have done is broken down a time scale of the video. So if you want to skip forward to an event, you can do so (by sliding the time bar).Â
The time scale, plus more details and loads of pictures taken from the event are all after the break.
Rumour: Hidden Saturn game coming to XBLA?
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, Retro. Tagged with Saturn, Secret, XBLA.
According to website Gamerbytes, an old Saturn ‘classic’ might be making it’s way to XBLA, Death Tank, after the game was recently added to the USK, German Rating Board.
I say ‘classic’ because I have never heard anyone talk about Death Tank before now, but in the short few minutes of knowing the name (and promptly searching for more information), everyone seems to be raving about it.
Summer of Sonic: Live performances
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Retro, Sonic, Video. Tagged with Richard Jacques, Summer of Sonic.

I know some of you will have seen these acts on YouTube by now, but here’s our own video footage of the live performances from this year’s Summer of Sonic. Sorry if it’s a little late - but I blame the Internet! I edited them quite quickly, it then took most of the day (I’m talking bloody hours) for them to upload. *Shakes fist wildly at a passing duck*
Anyway, taking to the stage was Lee Brotherton (aka Bentley Jones), TJ Davis and Richard Jacques for some great, live performances of Sonic music, which can all be seen after the break.
Tec Toy releases Master System 3 in Brazil
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Retro. Tagged with Master System.
According to website, Terra, Brazilian company Tec Toy has released the new Master System 3 (click image for larger size).
Tec Toy is the official supplier of Sega products in South America, and have made many of their own models of classic Sega systems, including the Megadrive 3 and Megadrive Portable (which was recently released in the UK by Blaze - but is an exact copy of Tec Toy’s model).
The Master System 3 has 131 games built in, many of which are classics - judging from the list. But it looks like there is no cartridge slot to play any other game, which is quite annoying. However, the system does look damn sexy!Â
I am very tempted to buy this piece of kit myself, but I am put off by the ridiculous price tag. Apparently (accoring to Terra) the system is being sold for $239(US)! - I couldn’t see the price on Tec Toy’s official site though.
I doubt many people outside of Brazil will buy this, as good looking as it is - not when you can easily download all the Master System games for free, illegally (of course). But that’s the way of the world right now. *sigh*
If it were cheaper, then I would snap this up. If anyone is feeling a little flush with their cash, perhaps they could buy one and tell us what they think?

GAME giving gamers the chance to play the ‘top 10′ games of all time
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, Multi-platform, News, Retro. Tagged with GAME.

Now this post isn’t directly related to Sega, but it’s the weekend, Sega news is slow right this minute and an amusing thought occurred to me when I first saw this.Â
Anyone who has been following Sega Nerds this year, will have seen the couple of posts we put up about how UK retailer GAME was asking people to vote for their favourite games of all time. And when the results came out, we were shocked by how effing awful they were.
GAME has now put up, on their site, some pretty cheap deals for the games which fell into the top 10 of their top 100 list.
Summer of Sonic is now over

Well this years Summer of Sonic event is now over. It is the second SoS event, but the first to be held in a real life location (the first was web-only) and the very first gathering of Sonic fans, organised by the Sonic community.
I know some of you had doubts about how ‘Nerdy’ it would be, and that large gatherings of geeks should be prohibited by law. But I have to say, I had a really good time - even though I was clearly out of my depth.
Seriously, among my (real life) friends I’m considered a bit of a gaming geek (or Sega Nerd, if you will) but compared to some people at this event, I was like some sort of high school jock - sans the great sporting abilities and huge muscles.
Summer of Sonic - this cake is not a lie
Posted by Graham. Filed under Europe, G, News, Retro, Sonic. Tagged with event, Exhibition, Fan Stuff, Summer of Sonic.
For those that don’t know, the “Summer of Sonic” (aka SoS) event will be starting (and ending) tomorrow - Saturday 9th August, in London - and one of the special treats for visitors will be cake. And what a cake it is!Â
Seriously, I am very impressed by how this treat has turned out. The cake has been modelled after the classic Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehoggame, complete with; waterfall, bridge, jumping piranha, checkpoint (star) post and Sonic’s shoes, (no Sonic though, perhaps he forgot to tie his laces before running off at speed).
Take into account this cake was not made by a professional, and she (Joanne Wheatley), did it in her spare time.  I think you can all agree that it’s very cool. Here is what she had to say on the subject of “that F*****g cake!”:
