Shenmue Online isn’t dead….its pending

Famitsu had Yoshiki Okamoto interview Yu Suzuki. They asked hard hitting questions, what was Yu Suzuki’s first car? It was a Nissan Sunny.
Then the big question comes up, what happen to Shenmue Online? This is what Yu Suzuki said:
“Come on, can’t you ask me something that I can answer?”
Not good enough? Well lets try again, this time rephrasing the question. How is Shenmue Online coming along?

~click for fullsize~
You can now play the tech demo of Sonic 2 HD, a free open project to all Sonic fans. The demo is not much playing, but does give you a hint on how the full game will turn out. As the picture posted suggest, Knuckles is selectable.
They got the music down and the graphics are starting to look impressive. It even feels like an old Sonic games.
If you want to download the demo, click here. Want to spread the word? Give the project a digg.

Creative Assembly talks more on Empire’s naval battles

Leipzig may have been a little while ago now, but Gamereactor has recently posted up an interview with Kieran Brigden, Community Manager for The Creative Assembly, from the show.
Kieran talks a fair bit about the new naval battle system in their upcoming game, Empire: Total War, and what different factors players will need to take into account when commanding their ships about.
It sounds like weather will play a big part in the naval battles, and players will get to experience very different types of seas as they fight in different locations across the world - mentioned was the Caribbean (sunny, calm winds)Â and also the North Sea (wet, wild and strong winds).
One other cool thing mentioned was the fire effects, which sound awesome. The more I see this game, the more I want it.

[Updated] Aliens Colonial Marines teaser trailer
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Video. Tagged with Gearbox, Teaser, Trailer.

[Update: It seems that Sega/Gearbox were none too happy about someone leaking their Aliens teaser trailer, and have taken it down. Well quite rightly so really. It was naughty of that person to record it - but at least we were able to show some of you the trailer before it was removed]Â
Apparently guests at the Gearbox party, in Dallas last week, were treated to early plays of Samba De Amigo, Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, listening to the lyrical genius of DJ Jazzy Jeff (hey, he was great in the Fresh Prince!), plus they were shown a teaser trailer for Aliens Colonial Marines.
According to Kotaku this trailer is similar (or the same) to one shown on the run up to E3 this year, so there is a chance some of you might have seen it. However, for those that haven’t… well just look above and it’s there for you.
Unfortunately the video was taken directly at the Gearbox party - so the quality isn’t the best.Â
Even though it looks like FMV from the game, it still looks pretty cool to me. The trailer certainly seems to convey some of the atmosphere from the movies. Let’s just hope the rest of the game can do the same!

Play the Sonic Chronicles mini-game trainer

A little bit like Samba De Amigo the other week, Sega has released another fun little online mini-game to test your skills, for Sonic Chronicles.
However, while the Samba De Amigo mini-game was essentially a mini version of the full game, this Sonic Chronicles one is a series of different mini games, and does not really reflect any of the gameplay in the final game - at least the games I played didn’t.
But it is still pretty fun, so have a crack at it yourselves, after the break!
Sports Interactive announces Football Manager 2009

Yesterday evening Sports Interactive announced the latest edition to the best selling PC franchise, Football Manager 2009.
The announcement came in the form of two Youtube videos. The first (shown above) has very little actual gameplay footage or information, but is more of a mini documentary on Sports Interactive and the Football Manager series. While not an essential watch, it is actually quite interesting.
Football Manager 2009 is being released on PC and Mac, with the PSP also recieving a stripped down version - Football Manager Handheld 2009. No main console versions announced (yet).
Check out after the break for the second (gameplay) video and more information.
Review: Space Siege
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, PC, Review. Tagged with Gas Powered Games, RPG, Space Siege.

Now, I’m not a massive PC gamer, as a result you will have to forgive me for never playing the original Dungeon Siege game.
One other problem I had with the game was that (apparently) my computer was unable to handle the game properly. Even though the specs of my computer outstripped the ‘Recommended Specs’ (not by much - but was still better) I found that I had to run the game in a windowed view and with all the settings on low. The only thing that might have held me back was my graphics card, although (on paper) it should have been perfectly acceptable.
The main issue here is that I will be unable to judge the game’s graphics as Gas Powered Games intended them to look. But, after the adjusting, the game ran smoothly enough so I can talk about how it plays and whether it is good or not.

Well it was pretty inevitable, with the Beijing Olympics being a pretty big success, Olympic fever has hit the gaming shelves, putting Sega’s sales in some pretty respectable positions in the charts.
GC 2008: Empire Total War - Naval gameplay

The more I see of Empire: Total War, the more I keep saying to myself “Damn, I gotta upgrade my PC!”
While my PC can happily run the other Total War games, judging from the video and gameplay screenshots, it really does look like I will need to do some upgrading. Sometimes I cannot believe that I’m looking at a RTS game, with the close up shots.
