Samba De Amigo party at Sega of America
Posted by George. Filed under George, Nintendo Wii, North America. Tagged with Samba De Amigo.

Sega of America decided the best way to promote Samba De Amigo on Wii would be to play it themselves and have their intern blog about it. First of all, we don’t have parties, offices, or interns. But If we did have interns, we would make them do all the work as well.
We would also replace that creepy Sonic mask with a creepy Yuko Ogura mask…
E3 had “atmosphere of a large hospital corridor” - but Sega still backs events
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Interviews, News, North America. Tagged with E3, Simon Jeffery.
Just the other day, we reported on how several top game developing companies, including Sega, spoke of their disappointment at this years E3, and that something had to be done.
Speaking with MCV, Simon Jeffery (yep that guy again!) wanted to clarify his views on the matter:
“E3 was a strange beast this year. We had an extremely strong product showing, had some great meetings, and got our messaging over pretty strongly - all at an event that had all the atmosphere of a large hospital corridor.”
But Simon also assures the gaming world that Sega would still back the annual event. However, it is clear that something does need to change:
Sega officially announces Sonic and the Black Knight
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, Nintendo Wii, North America, Sonic. Tagged with Sonic and the Black Knight.
Well, one of the biggest shocks in the last week was the surprise announcement of Sonic and the Black Knight.
What with Sega releasing two Sonic games in the next few months - Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Unleashed - I don’t think anyone expected another Sonic game to spin its way onto our consoles.
Sega has now officially announced the game, giving many juicy details in their press release.
“After the success of Sonic and the Secret Rings we’re delighted to announce a second title in the Storybook Series,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe, “Following Sonic on his way to knighthood will excite players of all ages.”
Since the first announcement a couple of days ago, many Sega Nerds have been guessing at what the game would be about - and I think you might be surprised to find out that some of the guesses were actually right. Here’s a few bits of information we now know:
- The game will be a quasi-sequel to Sonic and the Secret Rings - keeping to the ’storybook’ theme.
- The game brings Sonic into the world of Arthurian legend - (Legend of King Arthur).
- From the sounds of it Sonic will become a knight - (Sonic and swordplay? *Yelp*).
- It will be exclusively on the Wii.
- The game is due for release Spring 2009.
Check the full press release after the break.
Gamestop offers Sonic Chronicles pre-order bonus
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, Nintendo DS, North America, Sonic. Tagged with Gamestop, Pre-order, Sonic Chronicles.
Sega and Gamestop have been teaming up to offer us quite a bit of pre-order bonuses for awhile now, and they’re at it again. For those who pre-order Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood online or in-store, you’ll get a stylus three-pack featuring Sonic, Knuckles and Shade when the game is released.
It’s not like any of us Sega Nerds really needed a reason to pre-order the game; I think it’s fair to say we’re all pretty excited about Sega and Bioware teaming up for a Sonic RPG. But for those of you who love to collect this kind of stuff, we’re sure you’re salivating as you’re reading this news.
According to Sonic Chronicles’ Gamestop page, there’s a limited supply of the stylus packs, so get ‘em while they’re available! Gamestop lists the DS title to ship Sept. 30.

Box Art Bash: Phantasy Star II

Hello and welcome to another rousing edition of the Box Art Bash, where I take you on a tour through the smelly parts of Sega’s colorful history of game cover art. As always, if you have a great suggestion for a future entry of the Box Art Bash, comment here or e-mail me.
Last Wednesday we covered the sinewy Golden Axe. This week we switch focus from muscled western Adonises to anime girls. Uh, wait a second.
Sega Deals: Universe at War really cheap at Amazon
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, Microsoft Xbox 360, North America, PC. Tagged with Sega Deals, Universe at War.
Everyone’s favorite online retailer, Amazon, has just drastically reduced the price for the 360 and PC versions of Universe at War: Earth Assault. The 360 version is currently at $21.86, and the PC is a low $12.68 - that’s absolutely sick, and there’s no good reason why you shouldn’t get this game if you don’t already own it.
We gave the game an 8.5, and here’s what Ryan thought of the game:
In the end, Universe at War is a great game with some small setbacks, that don’t ruin the game but hold it back from being truly brilliant. I hope the game gets a sequels and the developers work on fixing up the small issues.
See there? It’s not every day you can get such a good game for so cheap. Hurry up and buy!

Just in case - the Dreamcast checklist
Posted by Chris. Filed under Chris, North America. Tagged with Dreamcast.
Several years ago when the Dreamcast was still the apple in many a gamer’s eye, Sega released a really handy checklist for every commercially released Dreamcast title in the United States.
We actually had it available on our former site, Dreamcaster’s Realm, and many people enjoyed the download, so I offer it to you again in full-PDF glory - just right-click and save-as on the image above to download the file.
I put forth this question to you, our dear readers, how many of the games on the checklist can you mark off?
Sega and Hasbro set the dance floor alight with their robot moves
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Japan, North America.

It’s been a big week of announcements for Sega Toys, this is now the fourth Sega Toys related article in just a few days! And if you thought that my future wife, EMA, was hot then you should check out the moves on this little number.
Recently revealed at the Tokyo Toy Show, the AMPBot (or Automated. Music. Personality Bot) is a new dancing robot. The two-wheeled wonder can be hooked up to a MP3 player or iPod (holding place on it’s back), and then play the music, while it dances around.
Admittedly the whole concept is not a new one. Sega Toys has made several similar music devices, but none quite as advanced as this one.
Rare Sega consoles: CDX on eBay
Posted by Graham. Filed under G, News, North America, Retro. Tagged with ebay.

Here’s something for you’re console collection, the Sega CDX.
For those that don’t know, the CDX was a combination of the Megadrive and MegaCD, and also known as the Multi-Mega outside of the US.
Of course, due to some ridiculous over pricing of $399.99, the lack of (new) games, the fact the separate MegaCD had been available for a year or two - for a cheaper price - and the upcoming Saturn, the release of the CDX in 1993 meant that the system did not sell, and so has become quite the collectors item.
The system is currently up on eBay, with the highest bid (at the time of writing) of $190. The lot comes with 5 games; Sonic CD, Lunar Silver Star, The Terminator, Ecco the Dolphin, Sega Classics 5-in-1. Plus an official carry case, original 6-button controller, cables, manual and box.
So anyone who really wants an all-in-one MegaCD and Megadrive, might want to check this out. Though it will probably be cheaper buying the two platforms separately.

Golden Axe: Beast Riders in all its glory
Posted by George. Filed under George, Microsoft Xbox 360, News, North America, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Golden Axe: Beast Riders, Trailers.
I have already seen enough Golden Axe: Beast Riders to know that I’m ready to play the game. But for everyone else, this is the first time seeing the game in action longer than two seconds. Now that Sega is finally releasing some footage to the public, what do you guys think?
