Welcome to the first edition of a new weekly feature here at Sega Nerds: The Box Art Bash, where I’ll be your tour guide as we journey through Sega’s colorful history of bad box art. Check back (hopefully) every Wednesday for a new entry into the Box Art Bash hall of shame. If you have a great suggestion for a future edition of the Box Art Bash, leave a comment or e-mail me with your idea. Are you excited? I know I am.
In honor of our recent coverage of the upcoming Golden Axe: Beast Rider and our recent Sega Game Endings feature, this week’s edition of the Box Art Bash will go back to the series’ roots as we examine the cover art of the very first Golden Axe on the black 16-bit beauty. Hit the jump to read it!
Special: The video arcade lives on in Austin
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Arcade, Nathan, North America. Tagged with Arcade UFO.

1985-2008
(While this isn’t a Sega-related story per se, it’s still relevant to Sega fans and all gamers in general. The video arcade is a dying industry in North America and these local businesses may someday be a thing of the past. Hopefully that won’t happen, as this story shows that the arcade community still thrives even today.)
Austin, Texas — Einstein’s Arcade was a popular hangout for enthusiasts and casual players alike, with a variety of games and extremely convenient location right on the edge of the University of Texas campus. It was practically an Austin landmark; one of the few constants on the Drag since 1985, as stores changed and restaurants moved over the years.
On January 1, 2008, Einstein’s Arcade closed down.

If you happened to miss out on the excellent Virtua Tennis 3 (for shame!), then now’s your chance to redeem yourself. Amazon has Sega’s latest in human-based virtual tennis entertainment in three different flavors: Xbox 360 ($20), PlayStation 3 ($26) and PlayStation Portable ($17).
What are you waiting for? Get cracking!

I have no idea what this cute little chav is actually saying, thanks to a combination of his accent, his braces and his lisp. I’m sure it’s extremely important though, so make sure to watch it all the way through and take notes. There will be a quiz.
Sega Deals: Crush for $15 at Amazon
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Nathan, News, North America, Sony PSP. Tagged with Crush, Sega Deals.
Critically acclaimed, criminally underlooked and completely fun to play. That’s Zoe Mode’s Crush for PSP in one sentence.
In case you missed it the first time around, now’s your chance to purchase one of the most innovative handheld titles this generation for a price so low it’s practically stealing from a blind, deaf and paralyzed person. And then beating him afterwards.
All you Sega nerds and PSP fanboys out there better make sure to buy Crush at Amazon for $15. Hey, it’s almost as cheap as a gallon of gas, and it’ll entertain you for even longer.
In case you don’t want to take my word for it, here’s the Sega Nerds review as well as all our previous coverage. And don’t forget that Crush won a Develop Award for “New Handheld IP” last year.
CATS ON MY DS?! Yume Neko DS trailer
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Japan, Nathan, News, Nintendo DS, Video.
Have a gander at Sega’s upcoming ripoff of Nintendo’s popular pet simulator Nintendogs, featuring ferociously furry felines rather than curiously callipygian canines. Yume Neko DS looks practically identical to Nintendogs barring the starring species, which might not be such a bad thing since Nintendogs happens to be the best-selling Nintendo DS title ever with almost 18 million units sold as of the end of 2007.
The trailer shows off the different breeds you can take to your virtual home, and a couple of the toys you can amuse your cat with. Not shown is the part where your new pet pal destroys all your furniture and runs away from home, only returning after it’s been impregnated with six more of the noisy bastards.
Just kidding, I love cats.
Reminder: Iron Man lands this week
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, Nathan, News, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PC, Sony PSP, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with Iron Man, Secret Level.

It’s a huge week for gamers, what with Mario Kart Wii already on sale and Grand Theft Auto 4 and a huge update to PC multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 set for Tuesday. It would be easy to forget that Sega and Secret Level’s Iron Man game is scheduled for release this Friday. Hey, I can’t blame you since I didn’t even remember myself.
Lucky for you, I’m here to remind you that yes, the game is coming out just in time for the movie to debut in theaters. If you can find a break in your busy schedule between seeing Iron Man in theaters, racing online in karts, rushing for gold and shooting prostitutes, be sure to try out Iron Man. Conveniently, it’s available on every platform and then some… Including your cell phone.
If you want to learn more about the game, check out our previous coverage. It seems that there are no reviews for the game online at this moment, but I’m sure that will change soon.
Happy Tree Friends coming soon on Steam
Posted by Nathan. Filed under Microsoft Xbox 360, Nathan, News, North America, PC. Tagged with Happy Tree Friends, XBLA.

Despite being set for release in about two weeks, Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm has stayed decidedly low-profile. We know practically nothing about the game, having seen only one video showing actual in-game footage.
We did know the game was set for release on both the Xbox Live Arcade and PC platforms. We did not know how the game was to be distributed on PC. Thankfully, the game appears to be skipping the tediousness of retail outlets and the dreaded possibility of human interaction by its availability on Valve’s excessively convenient Steam service.
False Alarm’s Steam page also boasts what are possibly the game’s first screenshots and a PR blurb of the game’s content. Tantalizing! You can’t purchase the game yet, but I’m sure that will change all too soon.
English of the Dead featuring zombies in bikinis

Sega released an extended trailer for their upcoming English trainer/zombie-killing simulator. I really don’t know what else to say about the video; you’ll just have to watch it for yourself.
Be sure to keep an eye out for this cutie:

Now that’s what I’m talking about!
The game’s official site is also online now. (In Japanese only, ironically.)
