Sega Toys brings Indoor fireworks to your mom’s basement

When I was a kid, I always thought that fireworks indoors would be so much better than outdoors. That was not such a great idea. Though now Sega Toys has sort of fixed that.

Their new toy is a projector that lets you put your own firework show indoors. It has realistic movement and sound, so more work went into it than just putting videos of fireworks on your walls.

This could be a great device to bring that date home, I mean this is much more impressive than showing them your Sega collection. I doubt females care that you got the brand new copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga and if she does, marry her.

The device will be available on August 1 for $168 bucks.

Twin Sticks EX going into production

6:58pm 30 Jun '09

Sega has confirmed that Twin Sticks EX are going into production. Last week Sega said that the pre-orderes where going well. It seems they went so well that they got those 1,500 pre-orders before the deadline. The last day to pre-order is on July 2nd.

In other Virtual On news, Sega has launched a page to show off the new update that is coming on July 1st (tomorrow!). This update will add support for online match viewing, let players waiting in lobby watch the match going on, adds a special “Graphic Arrange” feature to the settings menu, brings some slight changes to the light and shadow effects, makes changes to controls, and most importantly fixes bugs that where found in the game.

To get the new update, simply boot the game up. I’m assuming the update will be world wide, but I guess we will find out on July 1st.

Here it is, a new trailer for the upcoming RPG, Resonance of Fate. I think alot of turn based loyalist are going to be turned off by the more action packed approach of this title, but I have to say, its looking rather nice.

Now that we  have seen more gameplay, can we get excited or should we complain that it isn’t made by Sonic Team?

The Yakuza hostess auditions are almost coming to a close. It is now up to game creators (including Mr. Nagoshi himself)  to decide the winner.

Infinite Space has a big drop in the sales charts

We reported that Platinum Games and Nude Maker’s Infinite Space was number one in the Japanese charts last week. It sold most of its first shipment, since Sega only bothered to ship 46,000 units.

This week the game had a massive drop in the charts, went from number 1 to number 18. This could have to do with the fact that most shops are sold out, since Sega thinks its a great business plan not to restock or maybe Sega did restock and the game just didn’t have legs.

I hear there is a ton of issues with used games in Japan effecting the sales of games, that is why most games now offer free DLC weeks after the games are released. One of the first games to show this trend was Yakuza 3.

New Resonance of Fate famitsu scans

For those of you who don’t know, Resonance of Fate is the Western release title of End of Eternity, a new tri-Ace RPG.

The game has a new preview in the latest Famtisu magazine, detailing some new info. Sort of hard to get all the info, since I don’t know Japanese and I can’t read the article. But what I do know is that the girl in the first couple pages of the scan is called Reanbell. The other thing reveled in the scans is a new local called Abel City.

Something that I noticed in the scans is that the characters have more than one outfit in the set of screenshots in the scans. This is something that you don’t typically see in alot of video games.

Sega of Japan has said this is one of their big “quality titles” being released late 2009 in Japan, around the same time that Final Fantasy XIII is being released. The game better be as good as they say and have a big marketing push, since Final Fantasy brand has swallowed sales of other RPGs that have been released around the same time, not to mention this is a new IP.

Sega has recently released a trailer of the latest download content for Valkyria Chronicles.  As the DLC is currently only scheduled for a Japan release the trailer is (unfortunately) all in Japanese - so I have no idea what’s going on.  But the lady in the advert sounds very excited and that makes me excited, so I hope you all are too!

What we do know is that this update will consist of six challenges made to the player by Edy’s squad. The challenges will vary, from saving stranded allies to wiping out invading foes.  The DLC is due for release on the Japanese PSN June 26th for 300Yen.

Virtual On Twin Sticks EX pre-orders are going well

8:50am 24 Jun '09

Posted by George. Filed under George, Japan, Microsoft Xbox 360. Tagged with , , , .

Sega has just updated their Virtual On blog, giving us some insight on how the pre-orders are going. The update says they are doing well, but they can’t say if they will reach the 1,500 pre-order mark they set, at least not yet.

The blog post had a Q&A with Mr. Okami from Hori, the manufacture that is making the Twins Sticks EX. He stated that the last day to pre-order the sticks will be on July 2nd, so we will find out on July 2nd if the sticks will hit production (or soon after). He stated that there is a chance that they will ship more (after first shipment), if demand is there.

Sega is set to release “The Legend of Joe Musashi” music collection, it combines the music of nine Shinobi titles (out of the 11 titles released) on 4 CDS. The linear notes has comments from the directors and music composers (Please have something with Yuzo Koshiro).

The cover for the soundtrack was drawn by Kudo Ryo, the man that did the covers for the Shinobi games on Game Gear. The music collection is set to be released on July 23rd in Japan and will cost you 5,040 Yen (About $53 USD).

Sega wants your best hostess bar stories for new Yakuza

7:26am 20 Jun '09

Posted by Graham. Filed under G, Japan, News, Sony PlayStation 3. Tagged with , , , .

First Sega held a contest looking for some models/hostesses to appear in the latest game in the Yakuza franchise and now they are looking for your best hostess bar stories.

Sega is looking for any nonfiction or fictional night club stories that might work well within the game.  Sega will choose three winners, with either the best or all three, being featured in the game - with the winner’s name appearing in the game’s credits.

My translator was having difficulty translating the page, so I’m not sure what the stories will be used for exactly.  My best guess is that they are looking for stories that might make good side missions within the game.

Annoyingly I think the contest is Japan-only, because Kotaku says that the entires should be under 1000 Japanese characters.  But if you can write with Japanese characters and think you have a good enoough story, then check out the special contest website.  The last day for entries is July 20th.

Personally, if I was one of the leads working on Yakuza, I’d ask my bosses to let me go out and experience some real life hostess stories first hand - you know “research” ;o).
