Sega Joypolis coming to Middle East, North Africa

joypolis.jpgThere’s not a whole lot of info here, but apparently, Sega and Emaar Malls recently signed an agreement on several indoor theme parks throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

The theme parks will retain the Sega Joypolis name and will have roller coasters, arcades and other attractions.

The first Sega Joypolis is set to open at the end of the year in the Dubai Mall. Well, with Sega closing quite a few arcades recently, it appears they have all the arcade units they need to stock the new Joypolis parks. How convenient!

Seems like we just got Virtua Fighter 5 version C, but Sega has just announced Virtua Fighter 5 R. The new ‘expansion’ will add new stages and fighters, one being the long lost Taka-Arashi. This hasn’t been announced for consoles yet, but don’t be surprised if its announced at E3 or TGS.

Hit the jump to check out some of the screenshots.

ATEI 2008 - Virtual Reality or Virtual Insanity?

ATEI Virtual Reality?

Jett RiderAs I mentioned in my previous ATEI article, Sega had some very different machines on display at the show this year, some non-interactive machines.

Well I say non-interactive, but I guess they are a little interactive, as the user does need to press a few buttons to get the machine going.  But once it has started, it’s like making love to an angry rhino, you just have to sit back and take it.

Anyway, for the purpose of this article, I’ll say the machines are “non-interactive,” as they are not actually arcade games, but arcade machines.

ATEI 2008 Earl’s Court

A couple of days ago, I informed you all, that I (which would ultimately mean Sega Nerds) would be attending the ATEI 2008 show.

The whole show is dedicated to the different sides of gaming, which includes Slot machines, Pinball machines, Quiz machines and even money counting equipment (for casinos, I would presume).  But most importantly, for us, the show also focuses upon Arcade machines.

First things first, before I get onto reviewing the line up of games that Sega had on show, I should point out that this years ATEI felt very different to that of last years.  Well different for Sega, at least.

ATEI Ahead

It’s that time of year again, the ATEI show in London, Earl’s Court.

What?  Don’t tell me you can’t remember what the ATEI show is?  We had about 10 articles on it last year!

To give you a quick run down, the ATEI (Amusement Trade Exhibition International), is not like other exhibitions that gaming sites cover.  The show is designed for all forms of ‘gaming.’

This includes gambling, entertainment and business machines.  So you can find anything from slot machines to arcades, or from quiz machines to cash counting machines.  It’s a very varied affair at ATEI.  However, we shall of course be focusing soley on the new Sega Arcade machines.

This year’s line up of games was a little different from last year, and yet also quite similar.  They had a fair few of the same games (hence being similar).  But also had some ‘games’ which were more like rides, and also some new, more interactive types of arcade games.

Confused?  Well all shall be revealed in the next day or so, as I should be attending the rest of the show over the next couple of days, to get the full experience of games on offer.

VF5 Update

Sega Europe has sent out the word, and the word is that Virtua Fighter 5 shall be receiving a pretty hefty update.

The updates fixes a few minor issues, such as a texture bug, but mostly adds new little features, to make play online just that little bit better.

For the full list and details of the update, here is the official press release:

Wii Ghost Squad sounding pretty good

CVG, just posted up a copy, of the import-review, from NGamer, for Ghost Squad, (Got all that? Good).  And from the sounds of it, the game should be pretty darn sweet.

I have been a pretty big fan of the game for a while, playing it many times, in many Arcades.  I was also lucky enough to get my hands on the Wii version at TGS, though what I played was the TGS demo, and not the full game.  But what I experienced was good.

And from the report featured in NGamer, the full version sounds like it’s going to be an arcade treat, in your home.

Of course, nobody does great arcade conversions any more, because nobody makes great arcade games. Or so we thought until we spent some time with Ghost Squad on Wii and discovered just what an insanely addictive, stupidly satisfying game it really is.

Virtua Fighter 5 demo up on Xbox Live

VF5

Everyones favourite PS3 fighting game, Virtua Fighter 5, is now available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

From reading the description, this 674.39Mb demo, is said to contain many of the of the full game’s features, including online play… Though Kogen informs me that the demo is quite short, with only 4 characters and has no online play.  Oh well, looks like we’ll have to wait for the full version, before we can have a massive Sega Nerds fight-off.

I’m yet to play this particular demo, but I did have a chance to play on one at the Tokyo Game Show, VF5 Live Arena, (check header image), using the official arcade stick.

Hopefully if the TGS version is anything to go by, the game will be looking very sexy - at least compared to the Ver3 arcade - which I have played on. I’m yet to play the PS3 version, (so I can’t compare to that) but according to Sega, the Xbox version is said to have some graphical improvements, plus the extra features.

No doubt, at least one of us on the site will play the demo over the next day or two, and give you a full opinion of it.  For now, here are a few more images, of the TGS cabinet, for you to enjoy.

Sega Racer TV coming March 2008

7:07am 14 Sep '07

Posted by George. Filed under Arcade, Japan.

We have some info on AMPlus’ (ex-Digital Rex) new title - Sega Racer TV, which is set to hit the Japanese arcades in March 2008.

After the huge mysteries called Psy-Phi and Shenmue Online, I question if we will ever play a AMPlus game. I do hope that Sega Racer TV is a huge hit, because Yu Suzuki seems to be having bad luck since Shenmue.

Expect more info in the next upcoming weeks

[Thanks for the tip, Yu Suzuki]

TV Racing and Dino Hunting

Arcade Fun!

The lucky guys over at Arcade Heroes recently got themselves a letter from Justin Burke, Marketing and Promotions Manager of Sega Amusements Europe. He wrote to let them know about two new Arcade games that will be shown off at Sega’s next trade show in October.

Race TV, a different type of racer, and Ancient Dino Hunter, where apparently you will be shooting “Ancient” Dinos, opposed to the ones we see alive today.

“Both are ‘not your average driving and shooting games’ and have extra features both in the cabinet and game play.”

So says Justin.

Head over to Arcade Heroes for more info, the letter and some cool pics from Sega’s latest trade show!

(By the way, the image shown above is not of either game mentioned, but of Let’s Go Jungle, from the same trade show. Just so no one gets angry; it’s not a random picture).
